  1. That's it. I love that mid-century modern design.
  2. Correct, Philharmonic Symphony of NY. Thanks.
  3. I've seen lots of "Stravinsky Conducts" LPs over the years, but I've never seen this one that I scored yesterday. Igor conducts the updated longer suite of Firebird on one side; the entire Rite - All 35 minutes - is on the other side. This one has a great cover (I can't find the image online - maybe someone can help me). It is clearly from the mono Hi Fi era, with that huge Columbia "LP" logo. So, a couple of questions. I have some LPs with sides approaching around 30 minutes, but this one has 34 or 35 minutes, making it the longest single side of a record I've ever seen. Has anyone seen a side with more than 35 minutes? I'll be curious to check out the sound (I haven't played it yet); I don't have high hopes for the sonics. Does anyone know if these are the same recordings that were released in stereo years later? This album is from the mono era, but I know that within the classical world, stereo recordings were being done prior to stereo LP technology.
  4. Michel Columbier - Wings - A&M
  5. That's very funny! Why is that funny? Several of those albums are along the lines of what you described. There are probably fewer than twenty artists whose albums I will buy without doing needledrops. Yusef is one of them.
  6. Guarneri Quartet - Ravel and Debussy quartets - RCA Red Seal Dynaflex. Good pressing for a Dynaflex. Love these works so much. This is a nice performance and recording.
  7. NO, PLEEZE, there are a few of those I'm still looking for!
  8. jack Costanzo - Naked City - Liberty (stereo, rainbow)
  9. To paraphrase Don Draper after they're all sitting around stunned at the VW "Lemon" ad, we're all talking about this, meaning that it's an effective ad.
  10. GA Russell, if you received Walter Wanderley's "Rain Forest" as a Christmas gift in 1966, you would be a FOOL not to hop on this. And that is a compliment, not an insult!
  11. It's time you sat down with your receiver and had a serious talk. It may be going through a rebellious stage and watching too many French films.
  12. That is true. I have the series on DVD.
  13. Larry, John Williams, the film composer, did indeed go by "Johnny." Several of his early soundtracks, such as "Diamond Head," list the name "Johnny" on the credits. I believe he is listed as Johnny on some Mancini sessions also.
  14. Williams (the film composer) plays piano on Mancini's earlier "jazz" albums such as "Peter Gunn" and "Combo." He was a fine player - he certainly could have gone in that direction had he wanted, but it appears that he made the correct career choice.
  15. Can any of you cats in the biz alert Mosaic to this error? This confusion drove people nuts for decades, and the digital era helped to clarify things. Mosaic is perpetuating the confusion.
  16. Is Mosaic mixing up the two pianists named Johnny Williams?
  17. Duke Jordan - Les Liaisons Dangereuses OST - Charlie Parker Records (yellow label stereo)
  18. We had two B&M stores in our area. Both carried new and used vinyl. One closed recently - It had far more CDs than vinyl. The other store remains open and I regularly score incredible stuff for short dough.
  19. Are there alternate takes of "You Gave Me the Gate?"
  20. My favorite Esquivel album.
  21. And Jane Monheit does a nice version of "So Many Stars."
  22. YES, I forgot about that one. It came directly after Fool on the Hill IIRC. That album has almost a psychedelic quality to it. Both Dave Grusin and Don Sebeskey developed this style of psychedelic string and woodwind arranging that all but disappeared. You hear it on later Brasil 66 records and early 70s CTI records.
  23. Absolutely. Their third and fourth albums, "Look Around" and "Fool on the Hill" are both perfection, top to bottom. Love the tracks that sometimes get overlooked on the collections, such as "Like a Lover" or "So Many Stars."
  24. At these prices, who's arguing? The rainbow covers are among the most affordable BN vinyl you can find, next to the double album retrospectives.
  25. The Brasil '66 versions bring an air of international elegance to these songs, suggesting images of Burt and Angie drinking Martini and Rossi on their yacht on a warm summer night, or huddled close by the fire at a ski lodge drinking sherry.
