Gil Mellé's Greatest Album Makes it to CD!
Teasing the Korean replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Re-issues
Music, furniture, design and style allow for the creation of one's own environment. That's what some of us do. You forgot to mention drugs, drugs will make the whole process an awful lot easier. :g Wine is my drug of choice. Yes, I forgot to mention that. -

No, it's just that this gang is a hell of a lot nicer, more open-minded, and more tolerant. -

Ha ha - that happened YEARS ago with the gutless management endorsement of a select few trolls and bullies. AMEN Bro. I took a one-way ticket out of there years ago. -

And the "future" that was imagined between the 1950s and 1970s is about 10,000 times better than the future we got. I'd rather listen to an early 70s version of the future than the millennial pop crap that was around (electronic music notwithstanding). I LIVE for albums like this. You can have the real future, I'll take the fake one. In fairness, Gil Melle made another good album too, called "Tome VI." He also designed some futuristic looking record covers, which, again, look better than the future we got. -
Trip To Philly Coming Up
Teasing the Korean replied to sidewinder's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
There is a KILLER used LP store in West Philly. It opened a few years ago. Packed to the gills, odd titles, most for $5 a throw. I brought home an armload of albums last time I was there. I can't think of the name. I"m pretty sure it's on one of the numbered streets in the mid-40s, someplace around Spruce. Can anyone confirm? -
White or Not? Vintage LP covers ...
Teasing the Korean replied to neveronfriday's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
It seems that a number of LP covers from the 1950s seem to discolor or yellow with age. I'm thinking of things on Clef, Norgran, Emarcy, MGM. Especially LPs with the really thick cardboard. So it's hard to say. -
"Sounds in Space" (RCA Victor 1958): Cover Artist
Teasing the Korean replied to neveronfriday's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Slightly off topic: While "Sounds in Space" is basically a stereo demonstration album with outer space graphics, there is a nice discussion of postwar orchestral outer space mood music, including cover art, here: http://www.ele-mental.org/~ecc/exo/exotica/osearticle.html This sub-sub-genre has retroactively been dubbed "outer space exotica." I started a thread on this music here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=53818 -

I need that Baden Powell set. It's out of stock on Dusty. -

There are no art/graphics credits on my copy of the record - nothing on the back, and no (visible) signature on the front. I'm guessing it was done in-house. BTW, Ken Nordine provides the narration between selections. -

Agree on both counts. I found this for cheap and picked it up on a lark. It is a nice collection. I understand the purists' criticisms of this series. But occasionally some good thematic CD compilations get released. They are worthwhile if you can find them for cheap, and if the artist in question is one that you primarily have on vinyl. For example, I have no idea how many Stan Getz LPs I own, dozens I'm guessing. This is the only Stan Getz CD I own, not counting bossa comps. So I'm happy with this.

Maybe one day I'll be nominated for my accumulation of space age bachelor pad albums...

What vinyl are you spinning right now??
Teasing the Korean replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
I am obsessed with the track "Dust" from that album. When DJing, it provides a nice segue between eastern-tinged sets and early 70s introspective cosmic black consciousness sets. -
I spun this a few times recently and I have to say I really love this album. I get a lot out of it with repeated listenings. But I also re-visited the Mark Isham soundtrack and was far less enthused about it than I was previously. In fact I unloaded it in a CD purge.

Completely agree. I feel like I'm right there, and I never want the stories to end. -
Suggest Some Andrew Hill

I have an album on Arista/Freedom from I think the late 70s. -

Faulkner - The Bear Third time I've read this novella. Amazing on so many different levels. I've read it both including and omitting part 4 - I'm going to include part 4 this time. I think I'll be on a big Faulkner kick after I finish Raymond Chandler detox. -
J. D. Salinger has died

I like some of the stories collected in the other volumes even more than "Catcher," but the latter made a huge impression on me at an impressionable age, just like finding Blue Note and Impulse! cutouts in the budget bin on my busboy's salary. -

Since starting this thread years ago, I have picked up Andrew!!!, Pax and Dance with Death. In addition to the two titles I mentioned in the first post. Andrew!!! with Bobby Hutcherson has made the biggest impression on me. But I love all of these albums. -
You must love vocals and inaudible instruments.

Has anyone seen Pink Martini in concert?
Teasing the Korean replied to Norm's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
If you never saw Combustible Edison live, you may love Pink Martini. But I've seen Combustible Edison and Pink Martini Live. Pink Martini just made me miss Combustible Edison. YMMV. -
