  1. Most of the tracks on this album are from "Happy Holiday," and I think a few are from "Ski Trails," both on Columbia.
  2. With this album you can actually experience the concept of stimulus progression. We have programmed six selections on each side for purposes of demonstration. Move the needle of your record player from one selection to the other. Listen a few seconds to each. Feel the change in mood as the stimulation increases from the first selection to the last. The effect is both psychological and physiological: proof that MUZAK is more than music.
  3. I always thought this was a Decca subsidiary/budget label. However, I found a Jo Stafford LP on Vocalion consisting of tracks from the Columbia vaults. What's the story?
  4. THE MUZAK BOARD OF SCIENTIFIC ADVISORS MUZAK has undergone a striking metamorphosis since its pioneering days in developing concepts of environmental music. Today, as specialists in the physiological and psychological applications of music, MUZAK is concerned with developments in vigilance and human factors research, automobile driver safety, medical and dental studies, noise control, the influence of color and music on emotions and of course, the effects of scientifically planned music on work productivity and efficiency, among others. Professional guidance is provided by the MUZAK Board of Scientific Advisors which consists of distinguished professionals in the field of education, industrial engineering, medicine, psychology and human factors. Under the guidance of the Board, MUZAK aims to make dramatic contributions to the business community through new discoveries in the scientific applications of music.
  5. MUZAK: A Tool of Management Unlike ordinary music or so-called background music, MUZAK is a non-entertainment medium, employing rhythm, tempo, instrumentation, etc. , to scientifically determined specifications. Different types of arrangements and selections are planned for different times of the day to achieve predetermined effects. In work situations, independent studies have documented the effectiveness of MUZAK programs in improving employee attitude, efficiency and productivity. In commercial applications, special MUZAK programs are employed to create environmental conditions conducive to improved customer relations and profits.
  6. Christmas - Muzak Stimulus Progression Number Three. Created by the Muzak Board of Scientific Advisors, Muzak is an internationally accepted tool of management. This is a good holiday hangover record, I might add.
  7. Vince Guaraldi - A Charlie Brown Christmas - Fantasy stereo
  8. June Christy - This Time of Year - Capitol mono
  9. Jo Stafford - Happy Holiday - Columbia 6-eye mono
  10. Instead of a live conference, why don't we simply create a message board where we can all talk to each other about jazz?
  11. And don't forget the great music by Laurie Johnson, some of the best music ever written for a TV show...
  12. When I saw the title, I thought this thread would be about the best jazz to play while cooking particular dishes. This combination, along with drinking wine, cannot be beat.
  13. Every once in a while I lurk over at AAJ. It's really interesting to see how different the responses are when a similar topic comes up. For example, compare this http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread....3583#post353583 to this http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...35485&st=15 There have been others but they escape me right now.
  14. Sy Mann - Switched On Santa - Pickwick produced by the great Jean Jacques Perrey.
  15. Those ladies gotta be getting a little long in the tooth! Heck, even the 80's strippers are probably in their mid 40's at least, by now! But there are young women now who do old-school cheesecake stuff. That's who I want.
  16. Can I be on the "What vinyl are you spinning" panel? The strippers will be a major selling point for me, but they will have to be cool 1950s grindhouse cheesecake strippers, not those smacked-out 80s looking chicks.
  17. Cecil Taylor - Nefertiti - Arista Freedom
  18. Mo' Christmas: The Anita Kerr Singers - Spend the Holiday with Me - Dot stereo
  19. Aluminum Christmas trees are a sign of style and taste.
  20. No, but by the law of averages the sheer number of shows he did guaranteed that he would have to do one or two cool things over the course of 50 years, even if accidentally.
  21. You're the one who posted the picture of him.
  22. I will, especially if he cross dresses and looks as sexy as Dan in that picture.
  23. Kenny Burrell - Have Yourself a Soulful Little Christmas - Cadet mono Goosby Jones's copy!!!!!
  24. Gilberto Gil - self-titled (and possibly first?) US LP on Paramount, with lyrics in English.
  25. When did he shave the beard and start cross dressing?
