  1. Bump. Can anyone comment on the 2 different CD box sets? Apparently, one was on Atlantic and one was on Definitive. Thanks in advance.
  2. That may be it. I rarely listen to Miles from that era, so I didn't immediately make the connection.
  3. I just listened to Chet Baker's version of this tune, from Chet Baker in New York. Instead of playing the bridge, they play the A section again, up a perfect fourth, kind of like the bridge in "What's New." Why on earth would anyone want to cover "When Lights are Low" and delete that amazing bridge?!?
  4. Also, I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I've seen this collection over the years at thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales. It was obviously a big seller!
  5. Now if only I could find the 70s Louis Prima ad for the Greatest Italian Hits collection!
  6. I'm sure you recognize this lovely melody "A Stranger in Paradise." But did you know that the original theme is from the Polovtsian Dance #2 by Borodin?
  7. I played the 45 of "Go All the Way" non-stop when it was a hit.
  8. Ripping off, or "repurposing," the same composer twice for your two biggest hits causes me to raise an eyebrow in a Spock-like fashion. YMMV.
  9. And his other hit ripped off another Rachmaninoff piece.
  10. Thanks! So I may invest in a couple of these when I have to replace my existing drives.
  11. That's what I get for typing and sautéing garlic at the same time!
  12. Bump. Many years ago, I picked up a bunch of Chris Connor's Atlantic LPs at a flea market. I've finally gotten around to cleaning and spinning them. Chris must have been a huge influence on June Christy. I hear a lot of similarities.
  13. Chris Connor - A Portrait of Chris - Atlantic (mono)
  14. Dakota Staton - The Late, Late Show - Capitol (re-channeled stereo) '70s reissue with yellow Capitol label. Which is all wrong. Why did they put the Capitol logo over her fur coat and not in the field of black in the upper right?
  15. Now spinning our copy of Steve, Eydie, and Luiz Bonfa, on a minty Columbia 2-eye MONO LP. Seth McFarland has forever ruined Steve Lawrence for me. Every time I hear Steve sing - which is not frequently, incidentally - I think it's Brian, the dog from "Family Guy."
  16. Is there an advantage to having them powered at all times?
  17. Thank you! Would you guys suggest having two SSDs, in the event that one fails? I typically have two sometimes even three external drives for this reason.
  18. Thank you. But it appears that the ones I have are not SSDs, right?
  19. Thanks. So I am using WD drives - My Passport for Mac: https://www.storagereview.com/review/wd-my-passport-for-mac-review and WD Elements: https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Elements-Portable-External/dp/B06W55K9N6/ref=asc_df_B06W55K9N6/?tag=&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309779531175&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8919762082056877177&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9052965&hvtargid=pla-301232220719&mcid=f501c952fcd23ddbb5d2167fd70494ee&ref=&adgrpid=62412137260&gclid=CjwKCAiA0bWvBhBjEiwAtEsoW04Pwh8l3l5BNXYDmcWZxjVXGAP8k5NPUvx-M_3gUdIQCyiNeRpm8xoC1A4QAvD_BwE&th=1 Are these the right or wrong kind?
  20. Thanks for this. Not sure what you mean by mechanical vs. solid state HDs. Do you mean powered? I am using non-powered external drives that plug into a USB adapter that goes into my Mac laptop. I have had to upgrade the external drives over the years. An indicator that a drive will fail is that I can't search its contents. When this occurs, that is when I get new drives and transfer files. I should add here that I am not a particularly tech-savvy person on the planet. I should also add that I listen to the albums I back up using Apple Music played through a Bose docking station. I wonder if Apple Music can be part of the problem as the interface.
  21. Well, this is embarrassing. I just realized that I've had this box set for ages and never played it. I got it for next to nothing when the old BMG club - remember that? - had a glitch on their website and was selling box sets for pennies on the dollar. Guess I'll uncork a bottle of wine and dig into this today!
