  1. Angelo discusses writing the Laura Palmer theme from Twin Peaks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-eqgr_gn4k
  2. That's the one David Lynch film I still haven't seen!
  3. You can still get them, but they are harder and harder to find. In some situations, I like the weird alien landscape glow of LED lights, but they completely lack the warmth of old-school bulbs.
  4. We need a visual Shazam app. If I break a vintage lamp, for example, I want to instantly know who made it so I can replace it!
  5. Thanks for this! Never heard of Montague Ewing! (Though I've heard of Montague Terrace in Blue).
  6. Do they play a version of Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse?"
  7. Thanks all! Lossless downloads on Qobuz are $10.99 for the first and $9.99 for the second. This may be the way to go.
  8. So if I were going to buy only one of these two sets, which should I get?
  9. Thanks. Does the version you have include dialog and sound effects? The Harkit version has both dialog and sound effects, not on every track, but on some.
  10. In the 1970s, Badalamenti scored a blaxploitation film, Gordon's War, under the name Andy Badale. The stuff that is slowed down is really creepy. For a while, you could download the entire Twin Peaks archive - nearly 10 hours - in a lossless format for under $10. There are millions of variations of "Audrey's Dance" and the Laura Palmer theme, but there is a lot of good stuff that did not make it to the albums.

  12. Thanks! Corrected.
  13. The booklet in the Harkit release lists the following. Komeda does not receive a piano credit. Bass Guitar – Jean-François Jenny Clark Drums – Jacques Thollot Guitar – Philip Catherine Piano – Eddy Louiss; René Urtreger Saxophone – Gato Barbieri; Jacques Pelzer Trombone – Luis Fuentes Trumpet – Don Cherry Christiane Legrand - Vocal on one track Other than the jazz musicians listed above, I hear strings on the vocal track, cellos on a couple of tracks, organ on one track. At least two tunes include flute, but I don't know if that is one of the sax players doubling.
  14. We may want to move this either to the Artists or Discography sub-forum. Luciano, do you have the release on Harkit? It lists the musicians. I will re-listen to determine if there is an orchestra beyond the jazz musicians.
  15. I will also respectfully disagree with the comments made regarding "Goin' Home." I think it is brilliant. As to how much is improvised or planned, I don't know. The Stones recorded enough music for a two-album Aftermath, and in the version I sequenced, I end side 4 with it. Here it is, four sides, each clocking in at 18 minutes: Side 1: Paint It Black Stupid Girl Lady Jane Under My Thumb Doncha Bother Me Think Side 2: Flight 505 High And Dry It’s Not Easy I Am Waiting Out Of Time (Long version from UK Aftermath) Side 3: 19th Nervous Breakdown Long, Long While Sad Day If You Let Me Ride On, Baby Sittin' On A Fence Side 4: Mother’s Little Helper What To Do Take It Or Leave It Goin' Home I used the MONO versions from the Stones in Mono box set, which Ms. TTK received from me for Xmas a few years back. I had no idea all these years that my US mono Aftermath was a fold-down. It was great to hear the real mono mixes for the first time! Shifting gears, has anyone mentioned "Sister Ray" by the Velvets?
  16. I love "Smokestack Lightning," but I could live without the rest of it. That Animals album from Dec. 1963, that runs 32 minutes, could have been a great live rock album in 1964, much better than Five Live IMO.
  17. Yeah, I found that album in the early 2000s for cheap. I got it mostly for the Cassavetes angle, and was surprised to hear the Jingle Bell Jazz track come from out of nowhere!
  18. I now remember seeing that God Rest Ye Merry Jazzmen album, but had forgotten about it. Yes, I had the version of Jingle Bell Jazz that dropped the Dukes for Herbie. Did you know the Herbie track was originally released on the Cassavetes Faces soundtrack LP on Columbia?
  19. So I just bought the Chico Hamilton, Paul Horn, and Manhattan Jazz All-Stars tracks as lossless downloads, for about five bucks. I then created a playlist with the original album, minus the Dukes and Marlowe Morris or whatever his name is, adding Herbie Hancock from the vinyl reissue (from the Cassavetes soundtrack), adding the 80s tracks at the end, and getting rid of Wynton. It clocks in at 72 minutes. Well worth it. Nice to have the original album digitally.
  20. For those of you who, like me, were disappointed by the CD version of Columbia's Jingle Bell Jazz, which cut several tracks to make room for Wynton Marsalis and others, Columbia Legacy has released both versions as lossless downloads on Qobuz. The original: https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/jingle-bell-jazz-various-artists/pesmozd0hps0b The new tunes recorded in the 1980s: https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/jingle-bell-jazz-various-artists/0886443426030 As I can easily live without the Dukes of Dixieland and Morris Marlowe, I plan to buy the tracks by Chico Hamilton, Paul Horn, and the Manhattan Jazz All-Stars, and add them to my existing CD version. Merry Christmas!
  21. The Animals' live version of "Bo Diddley," from December 1963, runs nearly 8 minutes. It was not released until 1970 as part of the live In the Beginning album on the Wand label, but still, it should be considered in the discussion. This Animals album to me is much more interesting than Five Live Yardbirds. I wonder how it would have been received had it been released at the time.
  22. Wow, this sucks for everyone. Either your transportation gets destroyed, or your transportation fractures your arm. Positive vibes to both of you!
  23. Chuck, you missed a great show yesterday. Lots of O gauge. As you know, I'm an HO guy. I really cleaned up; there was a dealer who didn't know what he had. The major scores included: Tyco red-box-era PRR light-up caboose, still in box, looks unused, $5. Mantua Western Maryland derrick kit in box, small detail parts still sealed in plastic bag, $10. (On the rare occasion that one of these shows up on eBay, it goes for at least $50.) Varney Aerotrain dummy locomotive kit in box, unbuilt, $10. I would have paid $10 just for the box, with that gorgeous illustration.
