  1. Neither am I, far from it. But you can improve the album and get rid of some of the dead weight. If the album as released is a favorite, it can be even better. For example, ditch the dreadful "Little Drum" song, and add some of the tracks from A Boy Named Charlie Brown that appear during the play rehearsal. The album as released is far from perfect, and the sequencing leaves a lot to be desired.
  2. If you haven't already, take a peek at that recent Vince Guaraldi thread, in which I detail all of the music heard in the TV show, and how to assemble a complete Charlie Brown Christmas inexpensively.
  3. I have picked up many cheap-o jazz Christmas CDs over the years. Many of these are grey market, sometimes using bad source material. Anyway, nearly all of these contain at least one track that I can't readily find elsewhere. I should go through them one by one and post about them here at some time, if anyone is interested. I could probably do a compilation of the oddball tracks from each of these.
  4. It was below freezing here last night, a rarity in a sub-tropical region. We let the faucets drip all night.
  5. Yup! RIP.

  7. I feel like you've sold this before.
  8. I have always felt that a specter of sadness or melancholy hovered over Gary McFarland. I feel much the same way about Brian Wilson. Even when they are doing "happy" songs, there is an undercurrent of melancholy. I don't remember enough details from the McFarland documentary to have an overall biographical picture. I do remember the sad circumstances of his death.
  9. In terms of the subject, or in terms of the film maker's approach? Both? Other?
  10. Jim, it's been nearly 10 years. Kindly provide an update on the progress Organissimo has made toward recording the fictional Cochise Jones CTI album. As stated, you will need to write a tune called "Redbonin'," and also work up a groovy version of "I Don't Know How to Love Him." I don't know how much Don Sebeskey will charge you for doing the orchestral arrangements, if he's still working.
  11. You probably saw this one. I can't imagine that would be two - especially with so little footage available. It just hasn't been readily available over the years. By the way, here is Gary's 1966 Fresca commercial, in which he conducts. This tune was later recycled for his album Does the Sun Really Shine on the Moon.
  12. This has prompted me to re-watch it. I don't think I've seen it since it was released. I love the 8mm home movies of Gary's wedding, with Gabor Szabo and Lalo Schifrin among the guests!
  13. I love those first two albums, but have not spun them in ages. Ms. TTK routinely plays the Specials on her radio show, so I hear them there. RIP Terry.
  14. For anyone who cares, a massive 4-disc box set of A Charlie Brown Christmas was recently released, including everything - false starts, aborted takes, and chatter. But it is still not complete. If you want a complete A Charlie Brown Christmas, you need the following: The original album, readily available A Boy Named Charlie Brown, which includes "The Charlie Brown Theme," "Happiness is," and "Freda with the Naturally Curly Hair," all of which are heard during the play rehearsal sequence Charlie Brown's Holiday Hits, which includes "Surfin' Snoopy," the uptempo tune with horns that plays when Snoopy is decorating his doghouse Then you need to go to your local download dealer and buy the version of "O Tannenbaum" that is played as jazz waltz. (The version on the album, also heard in the film, is in 4/4.). I actually downloaded two jazz-waltz takes of "O Tannenbaum" and created. a double-length edit, as each clocks in at only around one minute each. If you are really a completist, you can also download Schroeder playing "Jingle Bells" during the play rehearsal. There is chatter and dead air embedded in the track, so I tightened it up for my version. Well, there you have it, folks. How to assemble a complete A Charlie Brown Christmas, which will run you way less and be more comprehensive than the overpriced box set. If you need more detail, let me know.
  15. Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think. https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/19/entertainment/terry-hall-the-specials-dead/index.html

  17. We screened the film locally when it was released, and I think I have someplace the DVD from the filmmaker. I wish that they would remix Soft Samba Strings with a pitch-corrected piano. It was apparently overdubbed later at a different studio, and either the piano tuning or the tape machine speeds did not mesh.
  18. And all the drama really began around the 70-minute mark! An incredible game.

  20. I hadn't realized all these decades I've had High Priestess of Soul that Angelo co-wrote two of the songs!
