Right on! We in the "West" (West of what, lol?) have so much to be thankful for.
We don't say "Shall we eat", we say "What shall we eat", for starters.
I'd love to see this!
Jim, there was an open casket scene of Monk in the Eastwood Monk bio movie. Not a happy sight.
I'm hoping that Nica was the rebel of that family, because most of them are serious bad news.
Some of you don't like Paul Chambers' arco work? I'm sad to hear that.
A particularly good example of that is on the title track from "Bags and Trane". I've loved that since 1962. That session has been greatly under-rated. That title track just about hypnotizes me.
Pink Floyd are ace!
I love Eric Prydz's mix of "One More Brick on the Wall", which he called "Proper Education".
There is an earlier mix of that by Eric, called "The Wall", which is very funky and not as well known as his big hit mix. Check it out. You can PM me for a copy if you have trouble locating it.
When I think of arco jazz bass, I think of Paul first. I love his solos - he manages to maintain the tempo as he does it.
Richard Davis is amazing of course.
After seeing the comment about Ron Carter, may I say that he's my favorite bassist of all (pizzicato). Ron is not one for a lot of solos, which is to his credit. Just an awesome, deep, sustained sound.
Glad u also like Stewie Copeland and The Police. Rock is a dreary world, and that group is about the best of it.
Try some electro house and trance, in the local clubs, that is, if Austin has any that play it. Nearly all of that can be downloaded for free. For example, lots of DJs have free mix sets on their Myspace.
Yes, they are outstanding albums. By no means out-takes; they were just tracks that didn't fit onto the original albums.
The usual suspect included most of them on the CD reissues.
Ah, the days of the Zweitausendeins box set sale! I still haven't finished working my way through all those sets...
Ha ! Your not the only one - I only got a couple of CDs into the Evans 'Fantasy' set and really must get to grips with that one. Sure do miss those great Zweitausendeins deals (hit its peak with the Universal Mosaics at about 35 Euros each - Eldridge, Tal, Mulligan Concert Band, Jazztet). We'll never see anything like that one again.
Well it is zweitausendneun now, lol.
"Main Title" from Herbie Hancock's "Death Wish" - and Joanna's Theme from the same album. Has a bass riff you will be humming all day.
"Witch Hunt", from Donald Byrd's "Street Lady" album.
I love 'em, and so do the hot lads who hang at my place.
Apart from Stewie Copeland, are there any good rock drummers?
I see them sitting behind a forest of drums (looks like they bought the whole store!), and they mainly play a few thumps on the snare (on 2 and 4) and a few routine licks. Art Blakey or Elvin Jones could make much more volume and variety on only a small trap set (hi-hat, bass, snare, two toms, and two ride cymbals).
Oh, yeah, I remember that album. A Bob Thiele job, wasn't it? Flying Dutchman Records? Richard Davis was also on it.
The song, of course, is on a Pharaoh Impulse LP, also with Leon Thomas, but not Pops, or King Oliver either.
