  1. Did anybody else watch the 10 minute "prequel" to season 6 I just downloaded? I thought it was pretty pointless unless you really need to watch lots of Toyota product placement and Jack being tortured in China. Guy
  2. Well, there's still plenty of time for the season to go down the toilet, but that was excellent. Guy
  3. Filles is better heard in its initial album form than split out of programming order across two boxed sets. If you get the boxes, burn a copy of the original LP. Guy
  4. I'm somewhat reluctant to watch this season -- last season was a big letdown and the incessant twists are getting over the top. But I'll watch at least the first four episodes. If you can only watch one show on Sunday, I'd turn to HBO and watch Rome instead. Guy
  5. I only have two of those, Filles and the Horace. I like Filles better but you can't go wrong with either. Guy
  6. I like this album better than its cousin Forest Flower. My favorite bit is John Handy's long bluesy solo on the first track. Both performances are very intense though I really wonder what the group would have sounded like with Elvin Jones or Tony Williams. Guy

    MICHAEL BRECKER

    RIP, Mike. Guy
  8. RIP, Alice. I will give Ptah the El Daoud a spin. Guy
  9. This album is coming out on April 17. Guy
  10. Gerald Ford dead today at the senseless age of 83 ... Guy
  11. Looking forward to hearing this one. Guy
  12. That's silly -- you think singers aren't musicians? Guy
  13. Nope. Guy
  14. I wonder if this new venue will just cannibalize business from the first. Guy
  15. Tough choice, I don't know which I would pick. Denver will probably put up more of a fight against the Suns once Melo comes back. Guy
  16. Is it just me, or was this article a bit... pretentious. Guy
  17. I recently upgraded from an MP3 copy to a "legit" one. This is a VERY strong album, and the things that usually bother me about Garbarek's playing are absent here. Also, this thread is an example of SEK's excellent contributions to this forum. Steve, you're missed! Guy
  18. Wulfman, Congrats! Guy
  19. I'm listening to Ben Allison's Riding the Nuclear Tiger and I'll be damned if "Love Chant Remix" doesn't pinpoint a strong relationship between Mingus's "Love Chant" and Monk's "Blue Monk". Anybody else notice this? Guy
  20. Go Warriors! Monta Ellis is back which means we have returned to competitive mediocrity. Guy postscript: Thank GOD they didn't lose at home to the Sonics.
  21. I remember reading the transcripts to Ken Burns's Jazz special and seeing an interview with Gary Giddins where he was asked if "Birdland" was jazz and he answered "Is it even music?" One of the stupider comments I've read from the guy. Guy
  22. Danielle, you are off to a very good start! Guy
  23. It's much more likely that they will miss the playoffs. Very impressive win by Dallas in San Antonio. Guy
  24. MVP means making your team better, not just putting up great numbers. Despite a recent hot streak I don't think Washington is much more than a middle-of-the pack eastern conference team. Granted, he isn't an Iverson, but I think the Wizards have to do at least as well as the Cavaliers for Gilbert to be a serious contender. Guy
  25. I'm a fan of Steve Kerr's commentary, Charles Barkley is pretty good. Is Charles really going to race Dick Bavetta? "A 67 year old can't outrun me!" I'd pay to watch that. Guy
