  1. Fantastic drum solo! I thought it was pretty wonderful. And though I can't speak for the others, I have listened to Bird, Bud, and Lester and dig the shit out of them, too. The only thing childish here is your inability to hear what's going on in that piece and acting as though its everyone else's fault.
  2. Agreed. It will get your ass kicked out of my house in a heart beat.
  3. It's funny. While I wouldn't consider I Am The Walrus a beautiful melody, I can dig the lurching, grinding factor involved. It's like sonic waves on the beach that just keep digging away in a rather sinister fashion. See: Born On a Bayou.
  4. I opened this thread with the sole intention of posting that. Good call.
  5. Most recent thing I got into was Brian Wilson's Smile. Was never a Beach Boys fan, but have started listening to them lately. And Smile is just out of this world good.
  6. Guess I just never understood why the queens husband wasn't the king. Thanks for the explanation, though.
  7. OK, I don't get it. Why would this cat be a king? There isn't even a king now, right?
  8. I like a lot of his material. I wasn't necessarily bagging on him as a musician, just pointing out the fact that many of the things he said about Jarrett could easily be applied to him.
  9. And it also describes Jarrett. I'd add pretentious to the mix. Yep. Although when I talked to Shipp at Viz several years ago he was very gracious. Something I seriously doubt Jarrett would be. Not to mention he wouldn't have been milling around with us serfs to begin with.
  10. Pretty funny to read that from one of the most bombastic and grandiose players out there. Much of what he wrote describes himself to the letter.
  11. I mostly do sports, Walt Disney World, and political podcasts. Somewhere around 30 hours a week. 99% of that is done at work. I do listen to a fair amount of music at home. But, now that my new game room is almost complete, gaming will probably chew a healthy chunk out of my music listening...
  12. It might have been penned by an opportunist with a great deal of technical knowledge, but I agree with RT that it was an interesting read nonetheless.
  13. This. And nothing else.
  14. I think it'd be great if the entire audience mimicked his grunts and groans every time he made them.
  15. Oh, sure. I've got plenty of things to occupy my time. I'm a huge podcast listener as well.
  16. Oh, I love people. I just don't trust them as a rule. I'm very social and outgoing, but don't surround myself with friends. Been screwed too many times in the past, plus I'd rather spend more time with my wife and son. I have a buddy that my son and I golf with. And that's it.
  17. At any given time there are 6-7 thousand planes in the air globally. Hell, even if there were a plane crash every single day that would still be an amazing saety record in the grand scheme.
  18. Wow, how did I miss this thread throughout the years? Dug Maiden quite a bit through Somewhere In Time. They really lost me on Seventh Son. That album just struck me as incredibly tedious and not well-written. Live After Death is the most essential document they ever released, but Piece of Mind and Powerslave were my favorite studio albums. Didn't favor either DiAnno or Dickinson, thought both were excellent. But I understand the inevitable Bonn Scott vs. Brian Johnson argument that always takes place in those kinds of circumstances.
  19. Yeah, he later sent me a curt pm telling me he had put me on ignore. I guess it was supposed to make me feel bad for my transgressions. Mission: Failed!
  20. I'm pretty sure that's why I picked it up when I did. Not sure the edition of Penguin, but I haven't bought a new edition in over a decade.
