  1. If I had to choose between 70's Miles and Steve Miller, I'd consider giving up music altogether.
  2. Had no idea he was still about. But, that's probably the first time I've heard of somebody being a big Steve Miller fan. Outside of Fly Like An Eagle his tunes were mostly placeholders for the next tune on Rock radio back in the day. I mean, just because everybody could recite the words to Joker in their sleep doesn't mean it was a great tune. He was similar to Bob Segar in that he wasn't particularly noteworthy, but his songs were somehow iconic on the radio. Turn The Page? I don't think so... Or perhaps Billy Squire-like.
  3. I don't know. I always thought Fly Like An Eagle was a fantastic number.
  4. Is Snoop Lion the worst name change of 2013?
  5. Great. I'm out. Everybody's greatest dream finally comes true.
  6. Oh, I've got suggestions but I've already had enough posts deleted today. Some tough love is necessary here, but coddling is the standard. And we saw earlier today the road that leads people down. That entire situation could have been easily avoided.
  7. Isn't an analog to digital transfer called a digital remaster?
  8. Om is one of the few Coltrane recordings I simply cannot stomach.
  9. Jeff, your comments remind me of the first time I heard anything even approaching avant garde Jazz (outside of some disparate Zappa sounds). I had always heard how great John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy were. I was a BMG member at the time and they had Coltrane's Village Vanguard box on sale for $19. So, I figured why not take a chance? Two birds with one stone, and four discs for that kind of scratch isn't so painful. So I get it and promptly throw on disc one. India starts cranking and I'm nearly horrified. Why did they think this sounded good, or that people would like it?! A few minutes in and I'm thinking why am I still listening to this nonsense? A few minutes later I started thinking "wait a minute, something might be going on here". When I got to the end of the piece all I knew is that I had no idea what the hell I had just listened to, but that I was damn sure going to listen to it again! Played it three times through before even moving on to the second track. I was hooked that very moment.
  10. I think the simple answer to that is that the brain will always show signs of stimulation when presented with input it has never processed before. As for the complicated scientific answer, you're on your own there.
  11. Good lord... Extremely sad news. Outside of Carlin and Hackett, he was one of the my favorites. Jealous, Larry. But glad you were able to have that experience. Does the recording still exist? R.I.P., Mr. Winters. I'm thinking you were appreciated even more than YOU know.
  12. The USPS also has tracking numbers.
  13. I've recently received packages from California, New York, Kentucky, and Georgia. All within the last two weeks. Absolutely no delays, or problems.
  14. They're talking about the Fox broadcast network. Not Fox News. That would have to be the case. Or else MLB, the NFL, and quite possibly NASCAR would slap them with a lawsuit so fast it'd make their heads spin.
  15. Seems like those who have it the easiest tend to whine the loudest, doesn't it?
  16. I've never had a problem with the USPS. Not one. And after talking with a buddy of mine over in India about their postal system, I appreciate ours even more.
  17. The "gas thing" is one of the harshest back door inflations that any company fielding a fleet of vehicles could have to deal with. The USPS included. It may not be the primary culprit, but to dismiss it as no real issue is wrong.
  18. Jim, I agree that Blue Train has this one dead to rights. The only thing I'd add is that the USPS is a governmental service. So it's already political by design.
  19. I realize with the likes of DHL/FedEx/UPS that competition is pretty stiff for the USPS, but it still astounds me to this day that they're not doing any better considering how much people stay home and order things on the internet instead of buying them at brick and mortar locations. I realize the operation is a money sink, but my goodness...
  20. I think we're going to give it a shot. Thanks, Chuck.
  21. He treats us all too well. The times I've eaten at Frontera Grill and Topolabambo, I thought I was in paradise. BTW, I just discovered that his older brother is the infamous Skip Bayless. I've heard mixed reviews on Frontera Grill, so we've yet to try it. Is it really that good in your opinion? Kelly and I will be up there in July by ourselves, so we may finally take the plunge.
  22. There goes the neighborhood!
  23. Yeah, I remember. I was here then.
  24. I really don't feel that discussions concerning racism and politics need to be quarantined from every day discussion should the flow of the conversation lead in that direction, but I completely understand why Jim moved the thread.
  25. The worst part being that for some reason I thought she had already passed. Terrible. She was a beautiful and talented lady. Rest in peace, my dear.
