  1. But for what reason?
  2. Yeah, I’m currenty on the “second disc” of the album, that’s why that question popped into my head. I hope these musicians do some more collaborations. They work incredibly well together. I’m glad to have been turned onto them. Jazz/Improv is in excellent hands with these two.
  3. Never met anone from this board, but met well over 20 from the erstwhile Jazz Corner forums. Some of them multiple times in multiple cities. Some remain very good friends to this day. Sounds like you’re in a great place mentally, and getting there physically. I have a small frame, so my max weight was 217 about a decade ago. It was too much for my frame, and my legs were always shot by the end of the day. I’m currently clocking in around 180 now, but I have the chosen benefit of working on my feet all day, which really helps because I can be a lazy bastard at home. Like I’ve been all morning today. Either way, congrats. Here’s to positive momentum!
  4. I’d have my doubts just because, outside of Hooked On Classics, there’s really not much cross pollination between Classical and other genres.
  5. Really?! How cool! Was Tori Handsley with them that night? She draws sounds out of the harp that I’ve never heard come from a harp before. Like a cross between an electric guitar and a piano.
  6. Has anyone else heard these young and incredibly talented cats? This morning a buddy of mine turned me onto their recent live release, “Alive In The East?” A truly astonishing effort! Checking out their studio albums now. Journey To The Mountain Of Forever is just the duo, and while more laid back (naturally) than the live set, which had other musicians join them, is still top shelf material. Highly recommended. These cats smoke!
  7. Probably produced by people used to working in Rock/Pop. And these days they know how to sonically destroy pretty much everything they record and master, unfortuately. I swear they’ve learned how to produce an entire album with 0dB of dynamic range.
  8. Sounds like somebody is just a little too full of shit.
  9. He did. As a hardcore Dolphins fan during the days of Coach Shula, I absolutely despised Jim Kelly. Plus I thought he was really overrated. But his post playing career has proven him to be a gentleman and a warrior that we can ALL look up to.
  10. That’s awesome, brother! Do you have a goal weight in mind? What habits have you changed that led to this?
  11. I just find the overly protective nature of Jazz fans to be fascinating. Not that I’m immune to it, mind you. But man, if an artist doesn’t meet an incredibly strict and rigid criteria, then they best leave well enough alone and get off our goddamn lawn! The irony being that Jazz, almost by definition, is about exploration and trying new things. But you sure as FUCK better get that new thing right, son!
  12. If Alice and Kamasi were my only choices, I’d find a new hobby.
  13. It is a bit...audacious, right?
  14. Weird. I’ve never heard of The Truman. But I don’t attend Rock concerts anymore. The only two KC venues I’ve seen shows in are the Sprint Center and The Midland. Neither of which he’d likely fill. But hey, good for him and his KC fans.
  15. Snarky Puppy??!! Good lord... I really enjoy their music, but Jazz band of the year? Um...no. This may just shift me over to Jim's side of the fence.
  16. Not that they weren’t great, but l’d still take Hutch.
  17. I’m really not a fan of ballot stuffing. I’d prefer he were voted in by his fans, and not people completely unfamiliar with him.
  18. Couldn’t agree more. And the unexpected grooves they occasionally slide into from out of nowhere are pretty astonishing. I’m spinning it for a second time now. This one ranks right up there with The Selva, IMO.
  19. Did they sue him for copyright infringement?
  20. Steve, I’m listening to Disorder At The Border now. I think Giovanni Maier might become my new favorite bassist! This cat is absolutely fucking amazing!
  21. Ah, didn’t notice my own typo. So maybe you DID have the right cat! Now corrected. Eric Alexander.
  22. I don’t believe you’ve got the right cat. Not that he’s the wrong cat. Just not the right cat.
  23. I'm definitely going to check out more of Alexander’s material. He really stood out on the Mabern album you suggested to me last weekend. Strong player, no question.
  24. That's really saddening to hear. And yes, I'm not afraid to say that "it's a male thing". We think we are invincible, that we don't need no stinkin' doctors, or medications. Been there, done that. Spent seven hours in the ER as a result of showing just how "invincible" I was... I'm very sorry to hear about your friend, Brad. I'm sure he was otherwise a very intelligent and thoughtful person. It's too bad that we can't somehow, collectively, overcome our pretensions. If we could, I'd think we'd all live far longer. I got INCREDIBLY lucky. He didn't. I hope his fate informs all those who knew him so that they think twice about putting things off. Shit, brother! I've given YOU different perspectives?! Give me a fucking break! Compared to you, I have ZERO perspective on pretty much ANYTHING in this life! I mean, I truly appreciate the kind words, but when I get anywhere near the things you have dealt with in life I'll give you a call. Which I actually look forward to doing again, since it was such a effortless and enlightening conversation the last time we spoke. Seriously, keep up on your BP meds. You are the kind of people we need more of in this world.
