  1. The session order isn’t listed in the liner notes? That’s an odd omission, unless there was no documentation with the recordings. Though that would also be odd.
  2. I gave up the whole "my music is better than your music" conceit long ago. Objectively, there is no good music, nor any bad music. Music simply is, and all subjectivity resides exactly where Dewey Redman said: in the ear of the behearer. If someone prefers listening to Kamasi Washington, shut up and let them. If someone prefers to listen to Paal Nilssen-Love, shut up and let them. Lastly, don't ever tell anybody what is and isn't good music, or why yours is better than theirs. Might as well tell them their favorite food should be spaghetti because it's your favorite.
  3. OH MY! The future is SO scary!!!! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
  4. This pretty much sums up my feelings. It also just sounds contrived and over-produced.
  5. Forgiven (regrettably). So does it also depend on who paid for the recording sessions? And I really do ask that you give me some leeway for my ignorance on this issue. Is the record label on the hook, or is the musician, at that point. I guess I get the property rights thing, but whose actual property is it? Or is a case by case thing?
  6. Chuck, this is a stupid question that I hope I word properly: Are there any copyrights at that time?
  7. I made it about 1:29.
  8. Damn. Well, in Keith's defense, at least he just interjects every now and then. Se how long you can sit through this:
  9. Hope it’s a great B-Day, brother!
  10. A skeleton of Monk’s music? Can you give me the most obvious example? This I would love to hear. I own, or at least have access to pretty much all Monk’s Columbia catalog. So choose whatever tune from whatever album works best for you.
  11. Yeah? And what would have happened to those “real fees” if Monk presented a band of subpar musicians?
  12. No way in hell! Family members either.
  13. Alright, then. OK. Just wasn't going to be bullied into it!
  14. Agreed. La Scala is a wonderful album. One of his best solo albums by far.
  15. Naples popularity just started about 25 years ago, and it’s far more affluent than the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda/Murdock area I lived in for 20 years. There may be more New Yorkers on the Atlantic Coast, but the Gulf Coast isn’t doing poorly in that department. Fun fact: when I first moved to Charlotte County in 1980 the population was right at 30,000. Today it is 182,000. And the town of Murdock didn’t even exist.
  16. Mine either! That’s why I escaped after living there for 32 years.
  17. Yeah, cold fronts in Florida tend to die out right around the I-4 corridor. I grew up in Mount Dora up in Lake County, and the weather there was dramatically difference than when I lived down on the southwest coast. Up there we’d actually tend to cool down a little more in the fall and winter. Though I can confirm that the southwest coast has well more than it’s fair share of northeasterners. They used to flock down and stay from Thanksgiving to Easter (they’re called Snowbirds), then after Easter it was almost ghost town-ish. And all the license plates went back to being from Florida. Unfortunately, some time in the mid to late 90’s they stopped going home. Now the overcrowding on both coasts is out of control.
  18. Brad, that same period in Southwest Florida was quite similar. People would simply disappear. Then when the extreme stuff broke you’d see your neighbors again, and they’d all say the same thing: “It was just too damn hot to go outside!” Those were the days when you’d have to come inside from simply checking the mail, and change your clothes...
  19. Nah, it’s Sunday. And I’m tired...
  20. Where abouts, Paul? We had a REALLY pleasant four day stretch a couple of weeks ago. Two of them never got out of the low 70’s.
  21. Pretty much the same story here in most of the U.S. Hotter than hell, no rain. I chose a bad year to rehabilitate my yard. I read in the Washington Post that so far this is the hottest summer the northern hemisphere has ever recorded. And some place in Pakistan recently recorded the highest temperature in history.
  22. Post of the thread, IMO. Even though I may have a minor quibble or two. Well said, Clunky!
  23. I should have known by your inability to comprehend my “when in Rome” what kind of person I was dealing with.
  24. Why do I need to be “interested” in something I’m already familiar with? I guess you only have the wits to assume that because I actually thought that Rouse was excellent with Monk that I must not have heard any of his other work?
