  1. Just got back from a day trip with the family- my picks didn't save either. I did them yesterday evening. Send me your picks either here or in a PM- I will put them in for you. I remember mine. We all trust each other so there won't be any issues. Sound good? Just put mine in- sorry Aggie- I was honest! I can add everyone elses if you send them to me.
  2. Can't believe the Cowboys lost that game- I had it in the bag...
  3. The one who didn't make picks- or made picks? Cowboys were winning handiily when I went to bed. And I'm telling my son and his friends that Redskins will beat the Giants- no problem...then I look at my picks and I have the Giants winning...geez!
  4. I don't know what "distaff" means, but if it gets more people into the pool then I'm all for it!
  5. First game is Thursday!! There's still time to get into this if anyone's still thinking about it.
  6. Waiting for mine to arrive. People bitching about the lack of goodies in it. I'm looking forward to listening to the music.
  7. Wow- I'd like to get this. I enjoy Tony Bennett.
  8. Strong where I live, which is 20 miles from epicenter. Numerous aftershocks...big deal for us right coasters. Then we had a hurricane. Quite a week.
  9. This is a lot of fun!!
  10. We've been doing this for a few years now- CONN is Commish. Simple pick-em, no point spread. Just for fun. No money involved. If you want to play this year, copy this link into your browser and use the password below: LINK: http://organnissimo.football.cbssports.com/e PASSWORD: 2011 You need a CBS sports ID to play- if you don't have one, it's easy to make one. All the rules are on the website- but if you have any questions- feel free to post them here! Mike Scoring: • Pool includes all pro games. • Ties go to player with closest total points for MNF game. • Players who do not make picks for a given week, will receive one fewer point than the player who had the lowest correct picks score for the week. Deadline: • Pick deadline is one hour before each day's first game. This means that you can make picks up until one hour before games in weeks that have games that start before Sunday. If there is a Thursday game, you can still make picks for Sunday's games up until one hour before kickoff, even if you missed the Thursday game deadline.
  11. It was just Ok for me....the writeup in the booklet seemed to be reaching a bit as I listened to it. Now the calm before the storm- when the Europe 72 starts shipping.
  12. My daughter has a real interest in playing piano. We would like to buy a digital piano, due to space limitations and I heat my house with a wood stove in the winter which fluctuates the temperature and humidity. It has to have weighted keys and have a sustained petal. There's a Yamaha digital p95 piano for sale locally for 400- however I don't know anything about pianos, and I'm not a musician. Anyone care to commment or suggest different brands/models? Thanks!!
  13. It's because Alex wore a matching purse when he ran down the line. But seriously...it's just a rulebook call. 6.1 "While contact may occur between a fielder and runner during a tag attempt, a runner is not allowed to use his hands or arms to commit an obviously malicious or unsportsmanlike act." Alex was ruled out by interference. Somewhat relatedly a good book for looking stuff up but not necessarily reading cover to cover is A Game Of Inches. (Although the above I got from the web.) I would suggest trying a library first as it reads more like an encyclopedia. But if you've ever been curious about why there aren't left-handed catchers, how the wheel play came about, donuts on bats or who first threw a screwball, personal catchers, bunt defense, rally caps, whisk brooms used by umps...in other words, pretty much everything in baseball, it's in there. Anyway, in the book it mentions that in 1878 a new rule requiring fielders to hold onto the ball after applying a tag came into being. Some were very concerned that this would increase the number of collisions between runners & fielders and thus it was thought the rule wouldn't last. Wrong-o. One of the more famous home plate collisions as reported in Sporting Life involved a 210 lb. Cap Anson who sent 150 lb. (!) catcher George Myers flying "10 feet or more away from home plate, but pluckily held on to the ball...Myers has not yet recovered from the severe shock. The storm of hisses which greeted Anson ought to admonish him that audiences do not consider brutal work of that kind of ball playing." Myers played for the St. Louis Maroons, so I don't think anyone here is old enough to get riled up this collision. Well a runner has a right to slide at the bag and be able to touch it with a part of his body...and the infielder has a right to the bag as well when making a play. In the umpires judgement, you can have interference (baserunner) or obstruction (fielder) when one is impeding the other. I umpire girls fastpitch softball and rules are more restrictive to protect the players. Interference or obstruction may be physical or verbal...and there's a rule specifically prohibiting intentionally slapping the ball out of a fielders glove. If Alex Rodriquez was playing softball and as a baserunner he yelled at the fielder as she was fielding the ball, it's interference.
  14. Very true. I was just being sacastic. TBH, he has always been one of my favorite announcers in spite of his affiliation. Um. Vin Scully is the [hated] Dodgers announcer. WTF would he care if a Giants guy got injured? Right, because someone roots for another team, they rejoice in injuries.... Plus, we all know what a jerk Scully is... <_< Just a knee-jerk reaction. I'm still feeling angry about the guy who lies in a coma because of a Dodger thug; just a bad response on my part. That's what I thought...wasn't sure....I thought that was out of character for you.
  15. I think Vin Scully cares alot.....IMO- he doesn't think partisan like you.
  16. thanks!! Wanting to also get the Mono and Stereo sets from the Beatles.
  17. In stores or online?? Same for the Beatles Mono box?
  18. Not sure this has ever been posted: http://stanmusialsstance.com/2010/02/10/hr-rates-and-steroid-use/ This is sure interesting...
  19. I've wondered about him too given the muscles and the increase in power. For what's it's worth Jose Canseco says he has no knowledge of Rickey using. Hmm, a weird typo by me - I originally wrote Ricey. I'd better be clear for our Red Sox fans - no rumors at all that Jim Rice did 'roids. Nope, he faded out at age 36. Silly guy, didn't he realize power hitters peak when they turn 37? Jim Rice was awesome- I enjoyed watching him in the 70s/80s. Got to meet him at a card show- he was gracious but didn't say much.
  20. Is it illegal to reply to your own post? Amphetamines in the 1980s = Speed (the noun, not the verb). Kept the "dog days of august" at bay for players. No one did anything about that. Just like no one did anything about steroids and HGH and other things in the 1990s....until recently. I've concluded that you make a "steroid era" section of baseball history in the HOF- compare everyone within that era- and vote accordingly, based on the players in the era. Beginning and end is subject to debate though. Some people think I'm nuts...but I believe Ricky Henderson had a stint with steroids. Writers say they won't vote in any steroid players- IMO- they already did. Interesting conversation- however no one will convince the other they're wrong...but at least everyone is keeping the discussions in a civil tone.
  21. Braves are a sexy pick this year....a nice alternative to the Phillies or Giants.
  22. No one will ever convince me Bonds didn't take steroids. EVER. I played 30+ baseball one summer with a guy who took steroids- late 1990s....he admitted it, talked freely about it...said it made his eyesight better..and made him stronger. He felt invincible....he became huge, very ripped. Hit balls a LONG way. He also became a nutcase, challenging me to a fight right on the field when I made an infield error behind his pitching....I didn't nor wanted to play on a team with him anymore. Yeah, Bonds may be found guilty on perjury or not guilty on taking steroids....however my common sense says to me he did.....and so did MANY other ballplayers.
  23. Man- I'm loving this!! Attended 5 Spiders games this year- they have a good team...and VCU is playing out of their minds. Jay Bilas- line 1...it's Billy Packer...
  24. Happy Birthday Hans!!!
