Nuts....I'm a few minutes behind since I DVR'ed the game- family interruptions....halladay left a few pitches pretty fat and they were hit.

So nice to hear- glad everything worked out well! We became empty nesters then turned around and did foster care- eventually adopting our daughter so it's round 2!

I've been enjoying TBS's broadcasts......such a welcome relief from Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Shoot- they have the Phillies-Giants....I'll listen to the Phillies radio broadcast on XM and sync (sp?) it with the TV broadcast....DVR is a wonderful invention..

They were good calls- and great positioning as well...they were "textbook". I had to slo-mo them on my DVR to watch them again- goes to show how fast the game is on the MLB level. Go Phils!!

I twice worked a tennis match (they were desperate) and it was brutal. Things happen too quickly. I didn't appreciate how much bluffing is needed in a job like that, as often it's better to act like you saw it even if you didn't. Speaking of charts of the strike zone... The ball call that went right down Broadway was pretty nuts. I'm surprised someone hasn't suggested that the real reason why baseball doesn't want replay is that it would make it harder for them to rig the games. (You know, since every conspiracy imaginable is on the net somewhere.) There's no way I could do tennis- those are tough calls! Those charts are very revealing! The thing that annoys me most about umpires is how they call the strike zone. Even though it's defined in the rules- everyone calls it differently- some very extreme! I realize there's human factors involved but c'mon...it's so tight as it is....softball strike zone in the rulebook is armpits to top of knees- that's what I call. I may be a little liberal with the outside corner- that's because I set up in the slot between catcher and batter and you don't get a great look on outside- like you do inside. Anyway- these guys are supposed to be the best- especially for the playoffs- and I've been questioning that sometimes.....

I hate Selig.....ok that's over with. With the instant replays on TV and that strike zone graphic- umps can't win. They're the last to know they missed a call. The strike zone graphic is ridiculous because the strike zone is a three dimensional stationary box over the plate- and the graphic is two dimensional. I umpire girls softball games- 15u and below, and by myself...I call balls/strikes behind the plate- and also the bases on hit balls- I'll run out on the field for the best angle to the play. It's tough- especially on the bang-bang plays- and I'm doing the best I can. There's no room for error- miss one call and you're toast. If there was instant reply for each of my calls- and behind the plate, I wouldn't umpire. It's enough that parents think they know the rules better than me and say I miss calls or pitches from their vantage points behind the screen. Both umps and players/coaches are at fault- everyone has to one-up the other one. I think everyone should umpire a game one time and see what it's like.

That's great! I'm envious- it was rocking! I haven't been to CBP since April the first year it opened. I'm enjoying everthing from afar. I signed up in a drawing to win the right to buy playoff tickets.....we'll see. I was a season ticket holder from 1988-1992 (16 game plan) and the year I move down here they go to the WS. They are a scary-good team right now. Halliday will win the CY. Hey- a free agent is finally doing well in Philly! I still have nightmares about Lance Parrish and Danny Tartabull.

IMO- I believe someone higher than Reid made this decision- Jeff Lurie?? He was (and is) so enamoured with Vick when the Eagles signed him. I agree that you should put your best players on the field- maybe Reid saw how bad the O-line was and figured Kolb will get killed the way they blocked. He should request a trade. So with Vick at QB- will Kolb line up at WR in the Wildcat formation? On the other hand- do I care?? No.....(and I'm an Eagles fan....not so much this year).

Whoops....now Philly.com has Vick as starter....great ....I don't like him...Ron Mexico is trouble and something's going to happen with him. Been trouble since his Hokies days. I think Andy Reid needs to go.

Still Kolb...Reid is not giving up on him that fast- he's tied to Kolb since he drafted him and been harping since April that it's the Kolb era.

Berigan- I'm a Phillies fan and I remember all those years when the Braves trotted out Smoltz, Maddox and Glavine and they killed us every year/ It's payback time!! My whole family are Braves fans- this will be a fun series to watch!

Thanks Conn!!! I'm going to be a suffering Eagles fan this year.....we already have a QB controversy and it's not even the second game...... NE always does well- Brady is back! My brother is a die-hard Chiefs fan and he's excited for this year!

Past years are no indication of this year....Edward crushed us in week 1. I'll guarantee this: if I win it all this year- 2nd place will get the jar of honey from my hives- which I'm hoping will win 1st place in the light amber division in the State Fair of Virginia
