That's an excellent analysis! Hard to argue with that data, too. The graph for Darrell Evans was especially neat. He was part of the '73 Braves where 3 players hit 40 HRs. At 38 he and Fisk both had huge "old age" HR spikes. Yet with Darrell you can see that it was a league-wide jump in HRs, not just an individual 'roidy thing. He's kind of the poster boy for SABR where it showed a guy could hit .243 yet be more valuable than a .280 hitter because of his power, walks and for a time defense. Thanks for the link Vajerzy, I hadn't come across that one before.

No doubt about it. You've had many all-stars and few hall of famers on teams over the decades but (and no disrespect to those playoff teams in the '90s) nothing quite like this. Have fun adjusting as you've paid your dues & then some!

You can just feel those Mariners breathing down your neck now can't ya?

Here's the AUD patch info on the Charlie Miller version of 11/21/73: Sony Stereo Mic -> Master Cassette -> CD (shnid=22096) supplies: Me And My Uncle (0:17 - 0:19) Dire Wolf (3:11 - 3:13) They Love Each Other (2:29 - 2:50) Let It Grow (2:33 - 2:58) Playing In The Band d2t08 (2:34 - 2:54) Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad (4:40 - 5:05) And seeing how I have something lesser than Charlie's, this is worth it to have the "Let It Grow," "Playing" & "GDTRFB" fixed. Plus those precious 2 seconds of "Me & My Uncle."

I've wondered about him too given the muscles and the increase in power. For what's it's worth Jose Canseco says he has no knowledge of Rickey using. Hmm, a weird typo by me - I originally wrote Ricey. I'd better be clear for our Red Sox fans - no rumors at all that Jim Rice did 'roids. Nope, he faded out at age 36. Silly guy, didn't he realize power hitters peak when they turn 37?

Ah, I'll have to check mine for that. When I think of fall '73 cuts of death the 10/30 St. Louis show is especially cruel. This Denver show I think is much better than the OKC DP 19 (10/19/73). They did it right by making this the full show and including the 2nd set meaty* bite from the other night. *Beef reference is in honor of Owsley.

And how. And he's just a fill-in, at least for now.

And as Texas is slugging .603, it'll be interesting to see how the O's staff handles them.

Boy that off-the-charts 1/2 season with the Dodgers reeks of being a product of pharmacology. I'll miss him as he was highly entertaining, though as a fan I never had to deal with his pouting on my team.

Vikings ate a lot of kale. You gonna call a viking a pansy? Though they probably didn't eat it in chip form. And since this is the Willamette Valley, of course I've had kale growing over winter in the garden.

Good thing they scored so many as that Roy fellow needs heavy offensive support. Well something has to give by at least Monday for the winless Rays & Red Sox. Assuming neither team has won by then.

Yeah, a "win" as far as progress goes, especially against the Rangers in that ballpark. One fine debut! Along with Smoak this kid's progress are 2 of the building blocks for oh...I guess 2013. I'm taking fish oil, exercising and such so I can live to see winning baseball in Seattle again. In the meantime, at least let's be better than last season and that may be happening. In the meantime I think I'm going to jump on the April Royal bandwagon. Does simply moving Gordon from 3b to LF suddenly make all of that projected star prospect greatness finally burst out? Wow, he's off to a great start. And hey Aggie, you're tied w/ the Red Sox thru 4 games. Bet you didn't imagine that! (Sorry to a few folks, couldn't resist.)

That's the best approach. There have been PMs speculating that he's a troll program.

Happy Birthday Allen Lowe

Happy birthday! -
In a season of low expectations for Seattle I'm very happy with them scoring 4 runs in 3 of the 4 games this year. Last year's offense was one of the worst in baseball history. Also thrilled that Smoak...does indeed.

Skip ahead to 1:12. And hey, given the backdrop it maintains the context of the thread!

Not a fan of the Chicago day-glow green stuff eh? Now if Bonds had that stuff injected who knows, maybe Goodspeak would be all for imprisonment.
-
Seriously! I mean the man puts ketchup on hot dogs... (Secretly hoping the thread derails into f-bombs about ketchup on hot dogs.)
-
Mariners, Pirates, Royals, O's and even the Mets are playing winning baseball. I love early April!
-
OMG? Really? Are you sure that's just not for the Barry Bonds size 11 7/8 models? Those do require more material than for a pair of pants, so the price would almost be justified.

Casey Stengal platooned. So did Earl Weaver. And many others. Nothing new about it. Just good old fashioned winning* managing. *Winning in the non-Charlie Sheen sense. I think... We do not wish death upon players on Opening Day. And in this post-"Gabby"-shot-in-the-head-we-shouldn't-use-ultra-violent-phrases world, please save death wishes upon players until oh, how 'bout May 5th at least? There are 161 games to go and the very best teams in history lose 50 if not more. So enough. Or else I'll go into George Carlin's "rather than kill the ump what if we replace kill with fuck" routine.
-
It will be, but nice way to put a bit of scare by scoring 10 after being down like that. That's 3 1/2 games worth of runs for last year's M's.

Dyes (in food, cosmetics, etc)

Would the pills of Imodium be dye free? I think they're white in color (this saved me a couple of years ago when traveling.) -

It's simple. People respond to colors. So much of the processed food would be grey or some shade of tan or brown without it. The most hysterical part is pet food treats. Do you think your cat or dog gives a damn out the color of its food? But the human owners expect certain colors to represent rare beef and so on. It's nuts. -
Sheeesh, just a joke Dan. I mostly thought it funny that you didn't know that Lincoln was a Ford and that Ford wasn't bailed out. American car brand knowledge was practically taught in school when we were kids.
