  1. Yes siree. I can still recall what I saw during "Pharoah's Dance" and "Bitches Brew" though it's just too hard to describe it. There's a lot of fine detail in there, mighty fine. :rsmile:
  2. Well at least he's always hit in that ballpark, though that was off of Ranger pitching. (I know, things have changed). 6 years for a guy turning 32 this April with only 2 good seasons, which as Matthew has noted were both contract years. So you know he'll have a good year as a 37 year old, but other than that. So becomes of company man Michael Young?
  3. May 28, 1975 is now an official download. Epic performance with Eno. To entice bootleg owners they've added a 3rd disc of test loops.
  4. Your dad digs GMIII and Paul Bley??? NICE! Yeah, he does. I think Evolution is more his speed than Some Other Stuff, but he's a big fan of 50s/60s jazz. That is incredibly cool - and probably incredibly unusual. Makes me wonder if there are any father-son combinations on this jazz board or others. It would be funny if there were and somehow the parties didn't know it.
  5. You had me until this statement, Jim. Yeah, it's harsh, but then I've always maintained that Greg should have got the motorcycle, so what can I say? And does Cher have her arms around Gregg's waist on the fateful ride?
  6. And take another 15% off (shipping is free)
  7. I remember that cover. It just looks so strange. About all I remember about Reggie's time as an O was reading about how pissed Earl Weaver got a Reggie for stealing 2nd base, thus taking the bat out of the hands of the following hitter (possibly Lee May) who was then intentionally walked. It was my introduction to the "don't steal, don't bunt, hit a 3 run HR instead" philosophy. If I recall right that didn't happen in the above example despite it being set up for that.
  8. Hmm, what of Elvis Is Back!? Maybe I'm a sucker for the Living Stereo sound but I would be hard pressed to think of an album by a major star of pop or rock that's more underrated. The FTD release with outtakes & associated singles is one of imaginary "grab it & run" if there was a fire, assuming it was a slow one with no smoke and the people, cat & laptop (don't forget the charger!) are out of the house along with certain Mosaics. Oh hell, those Devilin' Tunes have a lot of music in a small package that would be easy to grab too… But seriously, it's a nice spot in his career where he's just a tad more polished but not slick and obviously excited to be recording. The movie Elvis: That's The Way It Is is indeed fantastic. While so much attention is put on his '68 comeback special he was in great voice in '69 & '70. While there is spotty & downright schmaltzy songs throughout his career I view it the same way as with Bix or Armstrong, the delivery is often strong enough to overcome the material. Less so with Elvis, but it happens nonetheless. And right you are about Gurlanick's 2 volume bio. It does indeed put the bad cliches to rest. Hell, it cremates them.
  9. The JSP Blind Willie McTell box. Terrific stuff! All I had before was Atlanta Twelve String.
  10. Yup, and that happened before he went on his home run tear for the Yanks in the World Series. It's a better and shorter nickname than "The Straw That Stirs The Drink."
  11. Yup. He made the cover of Time magazine as an Athletic. Wearing #9 too. The Mustache Gang was a colorful team that won 3 in a row. The O's and later A's got to 3 in a row but only won one, so they're a legendary team and Reggie was the top dog of the hitters. It was the success with the A's along with the big splash he made with the Yankees that earned him his "Mr. October" nickname. While the 3 home runs in Game 6 were a mindblower, I don't know if he would have gotten that nickname without all of those series with the A's too.
  12. I typically get a couple of packs of baseball cards in my stocking. I must have been bad for Santa to include this one.
  13. Nice Christmas typo. Bobby Grich wasn't green, nor did he steal Christmas presents from the children of Whoville. Or if he did he got away with it since TMZ wasn't around back then.
  14. Well, he did gain the nickname "Mr. October" in NY, but the A's won five AL pennants and two World Series Championships during his tenure. Including his 234 HRs and crazy OBP and SLG numbers in 1969 and 1973. He was also an MVP. Additionally, he played five years with the Angels and but for Gene Mauch's idiot managing, he almost put the team in the 1986 WS. Actually they won 3 World Series with his years with the A's. In '72 he tore his hamstring while stealing home for the tying run in the deciding Game 5 vs. the Tigers. So while he missed playing in the '72 series he obviously was a huge part of that title. I think he should have gone in as an A but Reggie tended make an impact wherever he played. And if you're able to hit 3 HRs in a World Series game I suppose you deserve to pick your own hat.
  15. It disgusts me that a football program brings in over $65,000,000 and all the best players get out of the deal is a scholarship. So you sell a tacky ring for $2500 and now you have to pay it back? Bah.
  16. While I generally agree with your sentiment that they've had a whole lot winning and not much experience with losing they did have a 4 year patch from '89 to '92 where they played losing baseball. Perhaps what sums it up best is 1990 when Andy Hawkins pitched a no-hitter for them and they lost. The '90 team lost 95 games and Steve Balboni was the DH. Oscar Azocar was given an OF job. They had high hopes for Roberto Kelly and Kevin Maas leading the way along with a broken down Mattingly. The starting rotation included Dave LaPoint. Had Tim Leary been Timothy at least the fans could have dosed themselves for the season and enjoyed the pretty colors rather than have to watch that team. Boy, I've probably planted the seeds of nightmares tonight for our organissimo Yankee fans. Sorry 'bout that guys.
  17. He was ornery. I've read accounts of his interactions with young fans at autograph signings that probably damaged the psyche of a few them. For that we should be grateful. And testing your fastball vs. a motorcycle is much cooler than using a radar gun. There's a stretch of freeway from Iowa thru Illinois where you can see the signs for the birthplaces of Feller, Herbert Hoover, John Wayne & Ronald Reagan. Those signs are the most memorable part of the miles & miles or corn & soybeans.
  18. Me too. And for worried Yankee fans, the ex-Cub factor has been defeated.
  19. Happy to help! I got lucky and got it on the first try as I saw a list of performers of the song on AMG and noticed Jars Of Clay mentioned a few times. I thought what a dumb band name so it made me suspicious. I've since gone back and heard the 1st 4 words sung and immediately stopped. Just based on that brief exposure I surmise it indeed is one of the most toxic Christmas songs out there. So I owe you thanks for the power in knowing the name of this beast (I'm a big believer in "Know your enemy." ) Now I know if I'm in a store and I hear that plunky guitar to drop whatever I'm doing and run run run!
  20. Close to what Paul says. However as the Black Friday sales happen earlier each year & are so irresistible I invariably end up buying something for myself. I don't save it for Christmas but open it right off.
  21. I only listened to the 1st 3 seconds but heard the guitar you described. Maybe it's this:
  22. Somebody check J.H. to make sure he didn't die with a smile on his face. And what a bunch of noise surrounding this. A massive failing by reporters, Twitter etc. for being so late to sniffing out Philly as being in the mix. And five years too! And less money! See, factors other than money come into play. Granted, he's still getting a lot money, lots & lots of it, but he could have taken more. Though I did read he's asking for his money in 5 & 10s and he plans to sit in the pile while smoking a cigar because he saw Scrooge McDuck do it. Nice to see the Phils step up with Jamie Moyer having to sit out a year until his return in 2012. And trust me, he'll be back, so no need to make the 5th in the rotation a permanent thing. Sheeeesh, that's the sick thing. Is the 5th guy in the rotation still Blanton? He's an inning eater who if he returns to 2009 form is probably better than 1/2 the 4ths, never mind the 5ths. And your 4th is Hamels (or Oswalt)? That's crazy. If Rollins is doing yoga or something positive for that hammy and young Domonic makes some progress, boy, Philly could be one of those 110 win or so kind of teams.
  23. Especially as a lefty (even though he has flyball tendencies), if I'm looking at Jetes behind me or Elvis, Elvis is king! And that's the kicker in talk of shaky Yankee pitching. There's be less shake if during the contract talks with Jeter it was suggested that he work hard this offseason to become a third baseman. Unlike a lot of hitters Alex has had no problem whatsoever hitting as a DH. It would probably be better for Alex's hip if DH'd as well. (Posada can stick around a mentor, mascot, parttime DH/C.) You'd have to stress with Derek that at 3rd he'd need to plant the back foot when throwing as that falling backwards move, cool as looks isn't good fundamental baseball. Go find yourself a glove SS and presto, Hughes becomes a better pitcher and maybe even A.J. Boston learned the lesson with Nomar. Pete Rose & Youks gave up their primary positions for the good of the team, Jeter could too if he wanted to.
  24. See 2008. He was lights out fantastic to get your there. Just take that dominating victory over the Yankees as your World Series for now. It's worked for Seattle fans for 15 years.
