It wasn't steroids. He sucked the pineal glands out of newborn babies.

Try the '20s minus the 1900. I could picture him wearing a toga and an olive leaf crown.

What Paul said. There are some differences, but his career numbers are somewhat similar to Whitey Ford's. Whitey was on even better teams so won at a better rate and also had fewer hits per inning. He didn't face a DH though. A talented lefty at Yankee Stadium can go far.

Are there any box bargains currently available?
Quincy replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
It took them about a week to process my order but as I live north of Rhino it arrived within a few days once I saw my credit card had been billed. There was no email from them nor could I look up my order on their website. So if your card has been charged it's in the mail. Given the horrendous weather that's happening once you get away from the west coast I expect it will take longer than usual. -
Warner is well off the highs of 2006, roughly 80% off the peak. KKR (as featured in Barbarians At The Gate) is rumored to be interested in Warner though I have no idea if there's anything to it. As far as Warner buying EMI, do anti-trust concerns exist for a business sector that's so damaged?

That sounds like the last one they had. I'm guessing (perhaps incorrectly) that the Steelers didn't play their starters (or at least for much of the game), but I recall being scared for the college players having to play them. If O.J. couldn't do anything vs. the Steel Curtain and given the way that defense destroyed teams, it just seemed dangerous & unfair to the college guys.

Indeed. Those are hard to confuse with the cd jewel cases. Makes it much easier to pick them out. Which is your favorite disc of the LS series? I've only got a handful of those, and so far it's Rubinstein's Beethoven sonatas. Quite mesmerizing. The short answer would be just about anything Reiner or Munch, though that doesn't exactly narrow things down plus it ignores some other fine discs. The Bartok concerto is a favorite and a couple of weeks ago for kicks I revisited the old warhorse Scheherazade. I was on a Chopin kick in December and enjoyed the 2 Rubensteins. I thought there might be a dedicated thread for these releases, though maybe I'm getting (gasp) Hoffman mixed with here. Not classical nor a bargain. -
Singers Unlimited Do Beatles Better Than the Beatles

Might as well skip ahead to the next "better than the Beatles" entry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhYBDCXkTyE -
It'll be $7.50 without the suitcase which isn't bad, though I understand the feeling of not getting all of the goodies. Someone noted on Hoffman that the whole dang tour fits on one blu-ray disc. I think they should sell it that way with a pair of white gloves with stealies on them to handle the pricey disc. 10 years ago I would have jumped at this but now...well I didn't. I did play play Rotterdam though which is the first time in at least a year I've played a full Europe show. It's a good one. Nothing like kicking things off with Playing. It did enter my mind that with a pro mastering sure would sound better, but I'm getting pickier in my box set purchases and trying (though mostly failing) to listen to what I already have. I have all but 6 of the Euro shows and have heard 2 that I don't have. I'd be curious to hear those that only circulated as AUDs someday and buy some shows ala carte, but not enough to spend $450. Lately I've come to appreciate good editing over completeness (which has gotten in the way of a few Mosaic purchases too.)

I've only listened to the SACD layers. The only A/B sort of activity I've ever engaged in was when the multi-format player had to go in the shop and I had to play some live archive Neil Young CDs instead of the DVD-As. I could tell a difference there. I can't really help here as far as layers or format advantage, other than to say I think the music would be worth hearing even on 8 track. Over the years between big Borders coupons, record convention finds and at used shops I've picked up about 2 dozen these for an average price of $6. (Whatever Living Stereo SACDs were in the last 2-3 rounds released I bought new). Their spines and the special cases of the SACDs make them easy to spot. -

I confess there are still half a dozen of the Gould discs that I have yet to play and I think we got our boxes around the same time (mine was the Gold Box deal). For about 6 weeks I played a Gould disc every weekday morning. The vocal albums didn't work for me at such an early hour and eventually I changed my routine. I have played several of the albums multiple times despite having a few that have yet to played. I recently relocated the jacket box to a more visible spot. I reach in and pull out 3 or 4 and pick one to play. I guess the recent PBS American Masters (reshowing?) about Gould put his music back on my radar. -

I folded and ordered this today. Good job! I have almost all of the SACDs and there are so many that I return to often. Sometimes I intend to play something that isn't a Living Stereo, get distracted and reach for one of these instead. They'll get played. -
And we're nowhere near April 1st. I recall some rec.music.gdead (I think) prank years ago about such a thing. I knew it'd happen someday, but it's still hard to believe it's finally going to happen.

He's playing Wednesday night at his usual Blueberry Hill in University City, MO so it appears he's okay.

Andruw is an very good platoon player as he has a good eye and some pop vs. LHP. It might be an upgrade from Thames. It's a good move, but it might be like spending time to remove a stain in the ballroom carpeting on the Titanic rather than improving the hull.

You're right, the NFL used to ignore ties. This sort of thing is why they eventually did what most sports do and count a tie as a half win.
-
I don't know what you mean by "true" other than that's when the AFL started facing the NFL. The NFL has had playoffs since 1933. In fact as a little kid I knew about the Bears beating the Redskins 73-0 in the '40 title game (IIRC they ran out of footballs and stopped kicking extra points) and used this knowledge to harass a friend whenever the Redskins were in the playoffs. Oh, and no, I don't recall the '40 title personally (but dang Bruce, you recall when the Lions were good! Wow!) Wiki does it better than footballreference.com

He mentions it's a Bowie song at the end sparky, you were close! Yes, I did have to listen to it to make sure.. http://www.myspace.com/nirvana/music/albums/unplugged-in-new-york-6261 Yeah, but an entire generation only knows it from radio play (who am I kidding, half of them only know it from illegal downloads) -- where the stage announcements are cut (radio), or are surely cut (downloads). What's radio? The Wiki entry for the song includes this: In the wake of this cover, Bowie bemoaned the fact that when he performed the number himself he would encounter "kids that come up afterwards and say, 'It's cool you're doing a Nirvana song.' And I think, 'Fuck you, you little tosser!'" It also mentions that Lulu took the song to #3 on the UK charts, so perhaps authorship confusion wasn't a new thing for this song. To his credit in concert Cobain was usually good about giving the songwriter credit before (or after ) this song and ones by The Vaselines, and a few others. But not "Love Buzz."

Pretty sure the second date has NOT come out anywhere on any silver-disc (at least not that I'm aware of). Uh, you know the video is up on a torrent site that isn't Dime right now...

There was a Musician interview in the '80s with The Jam where Weller is asked about "Disguises" sounding like a Who song. They give his smartass reply but not even the editor realized that yes, "Disguises" is a Who song. Hence why it sounds like one. Edit - I think on Nirvana Unplugged "The Man Who Sold The World" is introduced as "this is a David Bowie song." I know he often did in concert too. Though did often mumble.

I'm not going to be completely satisfied until you release it in mono on 180g vinyl. At 45 rpm too. I didn't know about "Tainted Love." And after not having that song in my head for 25 some odd years it's in there now though. The "cure" is supposedly "Morning Train" which will knock out any earworm. Some cure that is.

Oh wow, just got back from watching at a bar where I bonded with strangers who became best friends for 3 hours. Vegas knows best with Auburn + 2 1/2. But damn, I think the over/under was a major surprise. I expected Auburn to win but not the lack of points. Oh well, Mr. Nike is going to throw down a bunch more million bucks for a multi-story building to house the football coaching headquarters so this "O" state may just surpass this likes of Ohio & Oklahoma for jockiness foolishness. The state may go bankrupt, but footballwise we be competitive as fuck.

It's been 25 years since I was there but as others say, it's quaint. There are many options, but you might want to consider Montreal or even Quebec in the mix.

I understand your hatred of Beltre on the basis that he was overpaid/underperformed in Seattle. But jeez it borders on the irrational. Maybe Matthew should make up some t-shirts...

Another totally irrelevant attempt at sidetracking a thread—or am I missing something, Jim? Well, "raise you hand…" is in the song lyrics of video one. Jim's commercial link has the same. (Thanks so much for planting that jingle back in the brain. ) Also Tom was always known for sweatin' up a storm, so he would make a fine deodorant spokesman if he'd like go that route. Thanks Berigan. I knew about Janis & Pigpen (of the Grateful Dead, not Peanuts) doing duets but not Tom Jones.
