  1. I know the NFL stripped the Ravens of the Browns history but no other team got that treatment. So claim the Ravens as the original Browns and make him buy you another 2 now.
  2. I bet it's going to be like 5 times better than obi strips! I take it back, I can't wait!
  3. WOOHOO! Oh happy days! I don't care if I still have to wait (or save $12 either) because I already have the music & video anyway, and I'm getting a very extra special imported sticker! Suck on losers who ordered 'merkan!
  4. I know a couple who go there every January. It's much cheaper to get an apartment for the offseason and since they're going to theaters & restaurants it's not like it has to be 72 degrees outside. If anything it's probably a better time of year to go than August, especially if you're going places that require some dressing up.
  5. Make up yer mind! If the antiseptic conditions detract from the game, why is it "ridiculous" that the Super Bowl will be held at Met Life Stadium next year? Or is this yet another weary, yet veiled (barely) dig at New York? What I don't get is why is California not a regular destination for the Super Bowl? The weather is reasonable, tourism abounds and the fans will most surely stick around for longer. Seems to me like a win-win. It's been fairly regular with 11 hosted over the years. I reckon when the new SF Bay area stadium will get a shot if it puts in a competitive bid. I'm not sure but that may be a hold up for the LA area is lack of a modern stadium although perhaps the NFL views the Rose Bowl as still being adequate. But S.D. is in such financial doodoo it wouldn't be responsible to bid on the game. (It was hard to type that while giggling at the idea of a city being responsible regarding a sporting event). Not California but if you recall the NFL has stated it will not award the Super Bowl to Atlanta as the 21 year old Georgia Dome is considered to be too antiquated. Hence another reason why they're opening the bidding to cold weather outdoor venues.
  6. The NFL was cheating itself out of more money (can you believe it?) by restricting the bidding to southern cities or indoor only stadiums. Too many of the southern cities have eff'd up finances which theoretically was keeping the bids lower than desired. But now if you open it up to cold weather outdoor venues...well, my oh my, how very nice for the NFL. And for fans too. Face it, other than 70-100 thousand people no one else really gives a care if it's 20 degrees and snowing since they're at home watching the game. And the fact that people are talking about with concern about the weather for the 2014 Super Bowl when they have no intention of going is also quite remarkable. Brilliant move NFL, absolutely brilliant. And as Jetman pointed out, it's FOOTBALL - I'd love to see to it snow during a Super Bowl.
  7. Do you feel comfortable at with cycling? It could always be an indoor exercise kind. I do both - with the latter you can read & bike at the same time. I had reconstructive knee surgery half a lifetime ago and biking and swimming are friendlier pursuits for those who have had knee injuries.
  8. Hope it was a good one.
  9. And they'll have all those games against the M's & Astros to inflate their records. Man, 19 games against each division opponent. Remember that come October when we start comparing W-L records.
  10. Welcome to Philadelphia Chip!
  11. True, I especially remember the Mets as the blue was so shiny. It's just that most of the time it was pitchers and so there's that whole "gotta keep the arm warm & loose" thing going on. And most of the others are from cities that have 4 seasons. But sunny San Diego? Given the way he hit I was suspicious he was trying to hide scrawny arms. Not that I would know anything about that.
  12. I remember being confused that someone who played in San Diego always seemed to be wearing long sleeved shirts, not realizing that card photos were taken during the winter and that someone born Venezuela might not feel as warm as I would in that weather. The '75 card seemed pretty weird to me as it almost looked like there was a jacket underneath. Between Enzo & Jackie (who was with the Pirates when I was a buying cards) Hernandez I was deeply suspicious that anyone named Hernandez could hit, so when Keith came up he had to "show me."
  13. The burger that doesn't decompose is now my most hated urban legend. Okay, it's still 2nd & 3rd after "an onion near your bed will absorb the flu" and the follow up "cut onions are poisonous the next day." I want a a auto reroute to snopes anytime someone tries to post this shit.
  14. I wonder if his small but horrid postseason sample hurts him. 4G, 2L, 9 hits in 5 1/3 for an ERA of 8.44. Only 5 relievers are in the Hall and all were World Series winners. But he worked his ass off and for over a dozen years dominated. I can still easily picture him holding the ball behind his back, slightly bent and sweating up a storm before striking out his man. The Cubs had one of the great bullpens in the making during his rookie season in 1980. Bruce Sutter was the defending Cy Young winner. Willie Hernandez from the left side would win the AL MVP & CY for the '84 Tigers. Bill Caudill would end up on the M's and finish in the top 4 in saves in the AL for 3 years in a row. Dirt Tidrow appeared in 84 games and pitched 116 relief innings. Surprise - his next year sucked but he had another good year left in him after that. And then 22 year old Lee Smith, whose talent helped push the lot of them to other teams.
  15. Lou Gehrig did too though. And then there's that just playing against white guys thing. Not that McGriff was Lou Gehrig... Yeah, these are trouble spots. He's sort of like a Jim Kaat or Tommy John of hitters. Accumulated stats but not hitting the magic number. Well this is where things get tricky. He wasn't dosing but lots of guys were. So it's difficult to finish in the top 10 each year with the power stats if you're playing "organic." What does hitting 70 HR on steroids at Wrigley compare to hitting 38 in Atlanta without steroids? It also depends on when one thinks steroids were being heavily used. 1988 in Oakland certainly but rampant use league wide may have been a little later. I'm not completely sold either, but what if rather than 493 he had hit 500? I mean a trade to somewhere else other than San Diego even though it was just 2 years & change would have just about guaranteed he ended up with over 500. Had he lucked out and played at a favorable park like Yankee Stadium he'd have likely come closer to McCovey's totals (which are more impressive earned in a pitching era). Oh well, he at least makes the hall of the very good.
  16. Last month there was at least one other article or blog post advocating his case and I'm glad to see it get legs. Like vajerzy I change my mind often as to what to do with the steroid gang. What Bonds was doing in the early-to-mid '90s with the Giants when he had speed & power were some of the greatest seasons put up ever and I'd be tempted to put him in based on that even if you decided to erase everything once he starting using the 'roids. But anyway, I think if a voter is not going to vote for a steroid user than go the distance. Discount those numbers at whatever level your mathematical brain thinks the rate should be and try to compare it to what a clean player like McGriff put up. Obviously it's not easy, but too many voters are penalizing all of the players by their methods. I'm not suggesting McGriff is a first ballot guy, but he's in the neighborhood worthy of more discussion.
  17. He's got the beat! Happy birthday!
  18. It's pretty good if you travel and have wi-fi. I've gotten lazy about loading the iPod because of Spotify, youtube, etc. It seems like one can find music somehow or other if I'm in a place where I shouldn't whistle or hum. This will encourage me to lazier still with managing digital music.
  19. I've been waiting a long time for this day. This has the potential to slow down the crazy money in sports if it's accurate to assume that many would dump ESPN if given the choice (as noted in the 2nd article).
  20. There's more than plenty in the vaults worth hearing. I can't say I fact checked the following blog post but it does a decent job of pointing out where you might have heard similar versions of songs, and what appears to be truly unreleased. http://crying-blue-rain-hendrix.blogspot.com/p/people-hell-and-angels-truth.html
  21. Quite a bit. He GM'd for several teams and was commish for awhile. And he was an owner of the Memphis Sounds with Isaac Hayes. One of mine.
  22. I noticed from the article her daughter is also named Hannah. I've only run into a "female jr." once in life where a family on the road had a boy & a girl and each kid was named after the parent (and appropriately by gender - this was the Midwest). The dad has an awesome Playboy that went from 1965 to the then current year of 1974.
  23. Yikes! I hadn't heard. I've always thought her a "pro" and her comment putting it in perspective adds to her levelheadedness. But crap, go back to charcoal.
  24. You can get Dead Guy and even the Chocolate Stout in a much smaller town 100 miles southwest of Peoria, so Peoria probably has it too. Cable food channels and the internet have changed the tastes & demands of drinkers everywhere. Which is great when I go back & visit my folks. *Oh, I get that you likely didn't literally mean Peoria.
  25. I had a dumb American moment thinking they were playing a show, taking a month off, playing another show, taking 2 months off. Aye-yi-yi... Steven Wilson tour dates (And I finally figured out how to format links in the new system).
