I can't go back in this thread lest I become hypnotized by Dickey's knuckler. I must have watched that flutter by a dozen before the cat saved my life by bumping me.

Allen's sets do make for great mix tapes of the era! Great sound too. I'm not sure how you feel about the JSP but there are some "good" JSPs where John R.T. Davies did the transfers and/or mastering. The Bix & Tram is very good and can often be found at inexpensive prices. I went ahead about got the Mosaic too because of Teagarden and just because I ended catching the '20s-'30s fever. Davies also did the work on volume one of the JSP Jelly Roll Morton set as well. I'm fairly sure there's a thread here or maybe on Hoffman that lists all of the issues where Davies did the work. J.A.W. of course can assist with this subject. This is an era that benefits from the best mastering possible and thankfully it's not always overly expensive in attaining. I ended up liking the Eddie Lang & Joe Venuti Mosaic more than I thought as there's quite a bit variety in the sessions. It's perfectly rational to find it too much of a good thing though some sort of smaller set (I don't know what's the go to) would be advisable to check out, although picking up Allen's 1 & 2 will give a taste of this and all sorts of other goodies.

9 American beers whose sales have plummetted
Quincy replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
But Sierra Nevada is the real deal despite its size and success. Though they're clearly well-made beers, I've never really preferred their flagship pale ale or the IPAs...but the pint of their Kellerweis that I had on draft a few months back absolutely ROCKED. I accidentally dropped a clause that noted "mainstream due to size not necessarily taste." I guess as it was one the original "go to" excellent beers in a bottle in the early days the 2 flagships got played out for my taste buds and so I only tend to have one in emergency situations if I need a "fancy" beer when visiting small towns in the Midwest. Thus I haven't had their other beers due to the name association. The whole "eat/drink local" movement (as seen on Portlandia) is hard to avoid here so when I wasn't drinking OR (or WA) beers I gravitated to CO, although when I was last drinking beer regularly I had the summer alternating between Belgian (caloriewise it's like drinking big slices of chocolate cake) and of all things authentic Hefs, which I hadn't had in 15 years or so. And right around the height of enjoyment I stepped on a scale for the first time in ages and said goodbye to my good friend beer for awhile and spent more miles on the my good friend the bike. Is it local? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2LBICPEK6w -

http://beeradvocate.com is a good site to get acquainted with what drinkers of the world think of various beers. I've never found a US brewed Belgian to come close to the real thing so I long stopped trying (pretty jazz labels aren't enough), especially since I don't have one that often so I might as well have the real thing. I hardly drink beer now for weight reasons (knocked it off & want to keep it off) but the locally made (and hoppy) Ninkasi keeps expanding their territory throughout the west. It can be found in SF btw. Great Divide out of Colorado is one of my favorites - I used to cellar their barley wine and double IPA until I got lazy about restocking the supply. Hmm, I have a feeling I'm repeating myself from other beer threads. I tend to think of Sierra Nev. & Sam Adams as big mainstream brewers rather than craft, but that's just the perspective of seeing breweries pop up like mushrooms throughout Oregon and the West. -

I think of the list only Old Milwaukee is a fully American company now, so by subtraction alone American beer has improved greatly. Says the guy in a town of 120,000 that has 3 local brewers. -

Finally some good news. Finally some hope for humanity and earth. Antarctica may melt and the oceans may rise, but at least Americans are drinking less shit beer! -
And not that he was that old, but Swisher is now an Indian. While I admire Ibanez I'm not sure he'll last much longer than Griffey did in his return.

I give you Nick Swisher for your birthday. Sorry, you can't return him. Happy Birthday Soulful One!

Former Olympian, NCAA champion runner moonlighted as escort

Plus a $300 supplemental charge for a particular sex act. Shit, and people think Ticketmaster is bad about extra charges. Though she loses Disney motivational speech money she gains at least a future Lifetime movie. It's been another great year for Nike spokespeople with Lance and now Suzie. -
From the Mets to Mariners. It's not going to be a happy season for either "M" team but it's so depressing on this end that the one "big pickup" is a 34 year old outfielder that the Mets didn't want anymore. Ugh. I thought the Kendrys Morales trade for the Mariners was a good one, not earth shaking, but Morales seems to still have gas left in the tank. I agree. That happened after my whining. Hitting at Safeco he could hit .240 with 20 HR and be like Mickey F*cking Mantle for the team.

You're right. I remembered this much later after posting. It was a foggy time (then, not yesterday). :eye:

An earlier song "Fly By Night" was used for a VW commercial that was shown during the MLB playoffs and still gets some play during NFL games. It's the one where the driver is waiting at a traffic light and starts air drumming to the song. Eventually he's discovered by people in the crosswalk. As Chuck said "Oh the humanity." A comedy from 2009 with Paul Rudd & Jason Segal called I Love You, Man heavily features Rush music as the two guys bond to it. The band's music exposure as above has been higher in the past few years in ways I never would have imagined when my best friend's older brother was playing his 2112 8 track.

I could believe this. You may have once heard the song below sometime after 1980. You only need to hear about the first 12 seconds or so. If not that than try "Spirit Of The Radio" from the same album, as it tended to be played all over the place.

There are several teams that should pay you for use of this slogan for 2013 marketing purposes.

Birthdays? Really? Have a great one!

I saw some rumors of some temas interested in Hamilton for 3-4 years only, which, if I'm a GM, seems reasonable. Beyond that, you're paying top $$ for a guy who's 35+ with a brittle body and other problems. Then again, Shane Victorino got 3years/$39 mil, so maybe reason is gone from baseball for awhile. It's so odd to me that the Yanks are sitting on the sidelines while everyone else(including some who criticized the Yanks for spending big) is spending $$ like drunken sailors. But the Yanks need to get under the magic $189mil mark to avoid a huge luxury tax. Angels went 5/125. Yes - five years. Good luck with all that. And tell me they're not feeling the glamor-heat from the Dodgers... Not sure how glamorous an old Hamilton and an ancient Pujols will turn out to be, but the first year or two might be...interesting. I feel a little guilty that I forgot Pujols was on the Angels. Well...at least the Angels kept it at 5 years.

It's excellent! Right now the 10 disc set is cheaper at Amazon UK than US.

The hall is trying to keep the girl-boy ratio from getting too skewed towards the boys. And so you get stuff like this. But Ooooooo, Bare-a-coo-da! (I've now played 3 snippets of their oeuvre in my head and my head has run dry).

It makes complete sense moving him for a couple of guys to deepen the team but due to the tendonitis (and boy do I feel for him - it's absolute painful hell!) what they'll get for him is less & less for each day he's out, as whoever takes him is taking more of a chance. (Btw, Hi Philly). And while I know it's early, does a small part of you think "fuck, Howard isn't the future, or not one I want to be a part of." Uh, unless Donald the Mafia Clown outlaws Hack-A-Shaq. You know it! Jeannie comes across as being bright anytime you hear her interviewed. Jimmy? Duhr...

7 common foods you shouldn't eat

It's a bigger issue for canned tomatoes due to the acidity. Keep in mind once upon a time one would have gotten lead instead of BPA. Check into seaweed snacks for something better than microwave popcorn (stop making excuses). Annie Chun and SeaSnax can likely be found in better grocery stores coast to coast and come in delicious flavors. Practically no calories, a tad o' fiber and vitamins and might just work for you. -
Just the latter. Think of it more as art than an action figure. Though I dunno, it probably plays in weird ways with G.I. Joe or Barbie.

It's sort of like the Hello Kitty. Years ago the San Francisco designer teamed up with a company in Japan to make a Smoking Rabbit. The Japanese company printed it as Smorkin Labbit which the designer thought was much cooler. As far it what it does, why it brings joy to girls & boys.
