Holy crap, I just saw the Rays got Wil Myers from the Royals. Compared to Trout & Harper he's an old man of 22 (turns on Dec. 10th) but he's shown deeply serious power in the minors. I love the trade and gumption of both teams as the Royals get Shields & Wade Davis, but I think it'd be a little tough for Royal fans who were waiting for Myers to be called up. Though hell, it's been so tough for Royals fans for 25+ years maybe now there's some hope with some pitching to add to the many fine young players already they have. Myers looks like a sure thing though - very tough to give up on that, and I'm glad for the Rays that they held on to Price. How I wish the Rays were located in Seattle...

As money is no object for the Dodgers w/ the cable deal I get the appeal in a way - grab the best available righty to compliment the mighty Kershaw. But man, the similarity scores on baseball-reference are kind of scary for that kind of money. Comparing him to a pitcher's life's work: James Shields Ben Sheets Larry Christenson Rick Reed John Montefusco Juan Guzman Erik Hanson Comparing only thru age 28 Alex Fernandez Andy Benes Bill Gullikson John Smoltz (finally a likely hall of famer!) Ismael Valdez Larry Christenson Josh Beckett Mark Gubicza They were (or are with Shields) very good pitchers and a few had one season that was lights out, but other than Smoltz not a one looks like a hall of famer. Oh well, if he stays healthy he should put up some pretty numbers at pitcher friendly Dodger Stadium as long as they don't get stupid and put some iron gloves in the infield. Crazy money as it is it makes a hell of a lot more sense than paying Michael Young.

7 common foods you shouldn't eat

In February 2012 Muir Glen organic switched to a BPA free can. As the product has a shelf life of 2 1/2 years (at least) there are still BPA lined cans in stores and may be for some time. So if one wishes to avoid the BPA lining try to find cans that expire in 2015. Or as the article suggests, buy (or make) tomato products in glass. Though sometimes the lids have BPA linings...We don't make enough homemade tomato sauce to last the year so eventually we have to buy canned until the fall harvest. Otherwise I too have been following the collective advice of that article for some time. -
Unlike this one! And I think it wins for best packaging. And for being limited. For those who don't have the time or desire, it's $100,000, packaged inside a refrigerator and there are only 10.

What about short with Jeter away? (A fastball down the middle for the Yankee haters here).

Over 90 years of life with an active mind and fingers nimble enough to to play to the end with people who wanted to see him play. To a life well lived! Also if you had to go (and we all do sometime), thank you for doing so today as his music bumped Christmas songs out of many a local shop that I wandered around in over lunch. R.I.P.

That quote by Kobe about Pau has started something.

Wow! Maybe this will result in more vegan baseball players. I just hope one can apply a leather scent to it. Whenever I see a conference on the mound where the pitcher talks with the glove up to his mouth I know it's not fear of lip readers but that he just wants a snort of leather.

Speaking of "sitting duck" one could use http://duckduckgo.com to search as they claim they don't follow you around. I remember it and then forget it, plus I already have so many cookies that it seems pointless. It might make for an interesting experiment if I could stick with it.

Well, I thought I might try to help but I lost all of my fucking playlists... Edit - Rant deleted. iTunes did not delete my playlists as I don't have any on this machine. This is sad on my part but I forgot that I don't even mess with iTunes on my MacBook Air. Too early in the morning & not enough coffee...

Wow! When going thru the local shops' used classical section I'll sometimes look to see about adding a 3rd or 4th Rite or Firebird if I can't think of anything else but thus far there hasn't been one of interest (or one that I already don't have). But 20 of them? I hope to hell it's cheaper to find 1 used someday than it is to buy the whole friggin' box. I'm not even going to check the price in case it makes (warped) "sense" to buy 20 at once. Does the box come with a baton?

Yup, it was out there. Winning championships gets expensive, and it's a smart move on the Giants part since they appear to have an another excellent (& goofy) fireman.

Yeah, he's a puzzler to me too. He had a great season for a 22 year old. Which was 5 years ago. He got his power swing back last year but he makes so many outs. He's at an age where he should be at his peak, so if this is it, it's not worth 15 million. If he can magically recapture what he had 5 years ago he will be, but it doesn't tend to work out that way. I think the Rays have been brilliant at letting go the hyped prospects like B.J., Delmon Young, and that guy who ended up on the Nats who didn't amount to anything...Elijah Dukes.

Speaking of Cubs, they hired Rob Deer as their hitting coach. I never imagined someday he'd be hitting coach when he was homering or whiffing with the Brewers, although I know that being a coach is different than one's results as a player.

And I got to play the DVD on Friday afternoon. Quite the bonus! We sure are lucky as fans to have 3 PT DVDs to choose from. Since I was in need of glasses when I saw them around this time it's good to be able to see the screen effects more clearly now.

ditto Uh...I'll take the best shows of the past 15 years over anything ever made, thank you. R.I.P. Larry. -
I think part of the disappointment for some (not me) might be that the Anesthetize blu-ray was considered one of the finest examples of how to present a live show (both sound & video) - it was even listed in those sorts of audiophile threads by people who didn't even necessarily like the band. And Octane doesn't have that sort of clarity to it. I still haven't had a chance to watch the DVD yet. Funny thing was when I ordered it I thought the 2nd CD was the bonus, not the DVD. I was so eager to get a live lengthy "Even Less" that I pre-ordered very quickly without getting the facts straight. In the end whichever was the bonus I had to have.

They're in the http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/11/26/121126fa_fact_paumgarten?currentPage=all (Ack, forgot how to format links and the new system isn't helping when in a hurry).

Phil didn't decline. Little Jimmy Buss declined to hire him.

Miami has never supported baseball And yet those idiots have 2 more titles in recent enough years than the Cubs, Mariners, Rangers, Padres, and some other schmucks combined. It's just not fair. Make 'em give one of 'em to the Indians. Ack.

I think D'antoni would have to wait to fly for about 4-6 weeks after knee replacement surgery because of the possibility of blood clots. I can't swear to that though as I left pre-med 31 years ago. As far as comfort thank goodness he doesn't have to fly coach! I read Bynum may not suit up until January (another source suggests maybe mid-December). Someone just tried to trade him to me in fantasy for Lillard. I declined.

Last night in Memphis (which is a good team, probably also better than the Lakers) was an example of the rare way Miami can lose a game. They could still threaten the season record for wins though. I gotta give Phil credit for being smart enough to realize the odds were long that the Lakers can even get past the 2nd round of the West let alone win a title. And sure it was while trying rebuild after the post-Shaq blowup but it did take 3 years just to reach the finals when came back after Rudy's 1/2 year. So it's not like just by sitting in the high chair that the Lakers automatically win titles when Uncle Phil comes back. I hope stuff leaks out as far as if he really was asking for partial ownership and how funny it would have been to hear Little Jimmy Buss stomp & swear to daddy Buss begging to keep credit-stealing Phil away (hey, we all have our fantasies about the franchise flushing itself into oblivion). At least Kobe & Nash are happy and since they weren't going to win squat anyway (or play defense for anyone) at least they'll be fun to watch. Well, if any of the old farts stay healthy to play that is. If they can find or develop another useful bench player (ideally 2 more) they'll be more than entertaining, though that seems to have been a sore spot for them for awhile in finding those kind of contributors.

I wondered what happened to that once prolific deus person of the internet. Happy to hear you're better now. All the best.

Cheers! (insert excellent beverage photos) -
How about Fish as player-coach? The Lakers need some bench more than a high-priced coach. Bernie can direct the floor when Fish is in for his 8-12 minutes if need be. With all of the advanced scouting & support staff nowadays I think it's actually more possible to have a player-coach now.
