  1. 2 shows that Halloween night. Lots of stuff from that era, as in You Are What You Is, Drowning Witch and Them or Us. Quite a bit has been released on the "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore," mostly on Vol. 1 & 3 and a bit on 6. The Dub Room Special was a documentary that premiered at the Ritz the following Halloween. Early show: * Chunga's Revenge * You Are What You Is * Mudd Club * The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing * Dumb All Over (YCDTOSA Vol. 1) * Heavenly Bank Account (YCDTOSA Vol. 1) * Suicide Chump (YCDTOSA Vol. 1) * Jumbo Go Away (YCDTOSA Vol. 1) * Envelopes * Drowning Witch * What's New In Baltimore? * Moggio * We're Turning Again * Alien Orifice (parts on YCDTOSA Vol. 6) * Teen-age Prostitute * Flakes (The Dub Room Special!) * Broken Hearts Are For Assholes * The Blue Light * Tinsel Town Rebellion * Yo' Mama * Bobby Brown * City Of Tiny Lites * Strictly Genteel * Dancin' Fool * Whippin' Post (Allman) Late show: * Black Napkins (BTB I: As An Am) * Montana * Easy Meat (The Dub Room Special!) * Society Pages (YCDTOSA Vol. 3) * I'm A Beautiful Guy (YCDTOSA Vol. 3) * Beauty Knows No Pain (YCDTOSA Vol. 3) * Charlie's Enormous Mouth (YCDTOSA Vol. 3) * Fine Girl * Teen-age Wind * Harder Than Your Husband * Bamboozled By Love * Sinister Footwear II * Stevie's Spanking (The Dub Room Special!) * Cocaine Decisions (The Dub Room Special!) * Nig Biz (The Dub Room Special!) * Doreen * Goblin Girl * Black Page #2 (BTB I: As An Am) * Tryin' To Grow A Chin * Strictly Genteel (YCDTOSA Vol. 6) * The Torture Never Stops (BTB I: As An Am) * Joe's Garage * Why Does It Hurt When I Pee? * The Illinois Enema Bandit * King Kong * Auld Lang Syne (Burns)
  2. Break 'em up - they're a run scoring machine! Seriously, make a point of enjoyng Josh Hamilton's season. He's moved beyond the "great comeback human interest story" to now being a very dangerous & exciting hitter. The reason why the Reds felt they could part with him was because they had Bruce in the wings. Bruce goes 3 for 3 in his debut, with 2 R, 2 RBI and 1 SB. Fantasy players rejoice!
  3. I wasn't a west coaster at the time, but their winning percentage was better in their inaugural season than it is this year. You know it's not good when you're mildly enthused that Jose Vidro is back in the lineup as your DH. Our Ranger fan has one team to look down on this year.
  4. I think he feels there's a difference between talking with the press and talking with anyone else. And rightly so, as there are still nuances that can trip him up when dealing with English speaking reporters. The translator was hired by the Mariners in 2000 for reliever Kazuhiro Sasaki and now there's the catcher Johjima along with Ichiro. The translator (Allen Turner) has also acted as bullpen catcher. Pretty versatile fellow!
  5. I don't think so. They just signed him to a long term deal and they have a strong connection with Japan - they usually have more than one player from there. I don't know if he stills draws tourists from Japan like he used to or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if he still did. You have a younger somewhat similar player in Crawford anyway who will likely turn it on soon. But hey, if you want to give up Upton for him, by all means...
  6. Meanwhile in Seattle (we miss you Matthew): “Playing on this team and seeing what is happening around me, I feel that something is beginning to fall apart,” Ichiro said, through a translator. “But, if I was not in this situation, and I was objectively watching what just happened this week, I would probably be drinking a lot of beers and booing.” Drinking a lot, what a good idea!
  7. Actually Hall of Famer (and light hitting - boy was he light hitting) Ray Schalk caught 4. But then they changed the definition of a no hitter in 1991 and took away no hitters where the pitcher threw 9 innings but the game wasn't won until extra innings (assuming it got broken up in the 10th on.) So Schalk lost one no hitter from his total in 1991, long after he had retired (hell, 21 years after he had died.) The biggest crime of this ruling was it took away Harvey Haddix's perfect game that was lost in extra innings. Edited to add that if you include the Don Larsen World Series perfect game then Yogi caught 4 as well.
  8. I don't have it, but it was released as a DVD-audio with 5.1 some years ago. Regarding the Archive project, sheeeesh, he's been bootlegged to death, but here's the case of a living artist trying to give the fans what they want (and yes, probably more.) As always with this stuff if you don't like it, don't buy it, but I find it weird to condemn someone for trying to present something in the best quality and not leave scraps behind. There are tight heavily edited projects that chop off too much - this obviously won't be one of those. He's certainly taken his time with it.
  9. As usual the glorious future of new technology brings new problems. No more analogue ghosting, say hello to digital dropouts. Not sure what I'm going to do antenna wise, but here are a couple of build-your-own options, along with some information about antennas in the 3rd link. Video how-to link Building a UHF HDTV antenna with pictures Also the Crutchfield advisor - all about antennas
  10. I'll say! That's an album I come back to time & again as it's good, not one of those that's good for you. Plus you get some Marsh & Konitz into the list. I thought it was "interesting" to pick Mingus at the Bohemia > The Black Saint & The Sinner Lady. And like you say (though I edited it out), the McLean choice seemed different too. Sonny Meets The Hawk kinda surprised me too, not that there's anything wrong with it. I give the guy points for not including Sketches of Spain. Sorry to its fans - I just get so sick of seeing collections of people with only 4 jazz albums and seeing Kind Of Blue & Sketches of Spain representing half the collection. 100 is a small number so there are many painful cuts that have to made, so I don't get too worked up about these things anymore. It was a little refreshing to not see all of the usual picks on the list.
  11. I thought I would move on to cable but I decided that $20 for an Insignia convertor was worth a spin. Boy oh boy, this is really sweet! Most channels have a choice between "regular" digital and HD. I now have 4 PBS channels to choose from. I live in a part of town (Eugene) where no hills or buildings blocked the analogue signals so rather than buy a digital antennae I thought I'd try the rabbit ears/loop combo first. Works just fine. Looks like I'll put off getting cable and spend that money on music like I have been. And goodbye ghosts!
  12. I'm with you there. Highly intelligent crafty critters they are. We had one with a chipped bill in that nested in our back yard for about 6 years (maybe more before the beak injury too as it's hard to tell the individuals apart.) Some jays are famous for becoming tame as they get to know the people in their territory and "broken bill" used to plunk down in the grass behind me as I'd use the manual mower. Shorter grass made it easier to pluck worms out of the ground. That bird is no more but the current pair are just as tolerant of us. Yesterday I spotted the 2 hopping up our front porch to check for bugs in the Welcome mat (nothing there) which was new behavior, or at least the first time I noticed. They'll sometimes land on the gate at the same time I'm opening it. They seem to like to play games with the people in the house.
  13. I just got back from visiting my folks 2000 miles away. Mom has had Alzheimer's for years but this was the first time I sensed my Dad's mortality and recognized that you just never know... I'm truly sorry for your & your family's loss and my deepest sympathies.
  14. Might as well run through the rest of the staff, as the perceived depth was part of the attraction for some. Robertson was seen as a young improving 4th or 5th, which seemed like a pretty excellent 4th or 5th - but he's got to get better and so far he hasn't. He's been amazingly consistent in that he gives up 4 runs per start. If he was making it into the 7th that'd be alright, but that's not happening. The there's Kenny Rogers. Personally that doesn't seem like a plus to me, but some thought a bounce back was in order, and then there's that "veteran leadership." Long ways to go and maybe the pitching will right itself. Looks like no one wants to win the division so they may have a chance yet. I saw him a couple of times last week. I couldn't help but think back to batting coaches warning about too much bat movement before the pitch. His whipping the bat around has been one of the coolest things to watch in the batters' box with all of that bat action, but I think he's finally too old to be able to get away with all of that extra energy being expended before the pitch. It's one thing to be young and strong and going backwards before you swing forward, but I think time has finally caught up with him. He looked lost in the at bats I saw and I don't think the umps are giving him any benefit of the doubt on calls. Though he's never been a favorite personality I've always enjoyed (or feared) watching him hit, so it was kind of sad to see him look so...old.
  15. Yup. Some very nice footage.
  16. HI-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! April 19th, a very special day. Congrats!
  17. Wait till you're done playing the disc and have to fold it back up. I can barely fold a shirt, so some days it takes me 2 or 3 tries to fold it up right.
  18. Given his age it's amazing he kept those rock hard abs as long as he did.
  19. That Strozier/Little is terrific & a must, but it too is available as an individual CD (or maybe you're saying that - sorry, it's late when I'm posting.) Happily this is a case where either option is good quality.
  20. Ouch! Very sorry to hear about this. I've read it's a more common injury with dogs nowadays )I'm fairly certain the Wall Street Journal had an article about it within the past year.) Of course not that many years ago nothing could be for a dog with such an injury. Hmm, let's see, and this is the year I've been on the planet longer with a rebuild ACL as opposed to the original. Yes, I can certainly empathize with Coltrane. Get well soon.
  21. At the risk of losing another long term member over the snipes that'll happen for mentioning the source of the news, the 2nd disc is done by Steve Hoffman. A lot to go thru, but a link to the Hoffman forum announcement. I'm not in a rush to get this myself, but thought I'd pass on the news.
  22. Here's a picture of the contents of the November '73 box. From the top is the "cigar box," the white sheet is a reproduction of a flyer about the shows. That bit of color on the lower left of the white sheet is a button that comes with the package. The 3 digi-packs are at the bottom (each holds 3 discs), the booklet is to the left and at the upper left is the bonus disc. I was going to try use the board software "spoiler" feature but it apparently doesn't work for pictures. My sincere apologies if I ruined anyone's surprise.
  23. I don't do the Fantasy thing but it looks to me like you've made some pretty poor choices, if you simply chose your team as opposed to going through a Draft system where you end up taking some players because they are the best of the rest. Specifically, even I wouldn't take Varitek as the top catcher, and Jason Kendall has been a disaster for several years now. Jeff Kent is on the decline, if you couldn't get Utley then what about Pedroia or Cano? For what it's worth Kendall has laser surgery on his eyes and supposedly showed up in good shape (but yes he is old.) Once you get past the top 3 or 4 catchers it doesn't matter much who you have. And Kelly Johnson at second could be a darn good player (PH grand slam the other night, though his knee is hurting.) I'm wondering who's going to get saves as there's no bullpen. The other thing is while some leagues do the 2 catcher thing one usually doesn't need every position backed up like one would with a real baseball team. So for instance drop at least 1 C, and 2 if you only have to play 1, then probably Crede, Barlett, Anderson and perhaps someone else for more pitching (unless there is a upper limit to innings, but even if there is Escobar is toast & there may be better options in the FA pile than Willis.) It all depends on what the rules are though in the game Soulstation is playing.
  24. There's a button inside. When I picked up the cigar box I heard a rattle. There's also a reproduction of a mailer for the shows with a comic and uh, some sort of writing. If you unfold all of the digipacks and line them up by date you get a giant version of the artwork on the front of the booklet.
