  1. Er..., it's been back for years. See South Park.
  2. Of the recent ones I'm fairly certain the Ellington Reprise and Mulligan Concert Band sets sold out rather than timed out. Perhaps this should be a separate thread.
  3. Yeah fuckin' right. 7-4 lead in the ninth and it goes: double double home run pitching change single walk homer (The rest censored as this is a family board. ) Wow!, I thought maybe they brought back Borowski. Nope, he's been offered a BoSox minor league contract though.
  4. I confused...I...I...like something Paris did. Must resist warm feelings...
  5. Maybe it's because I'm midway thru my 40s, but I've met a couple of 60 year olds in the past year that I did think were in their 40s. Happy Birthday!
  6. Way to stare it down! You should consider giving yourself either little gifts or a bigger one as time passes without giving in. You could either keep it neutral and just use what you used to spend on smokes on CDs (or whatever, though be careful about food or drink during this stage) once a week, or bank it and buy a Mosaic after set time. The more you smoked the more you can spend on the gifts for yourself!
  7. Sorry to hear you lost your guy. It's not easy when you lose the "voice" you've spent so many years with. Cubs games have never been the same since his father died. Hard to believe that Harry lived a longer life than Skip.
  8. Wishing you a grrrrreat Happy Birthday!
  9. Nice list! I got nuthin'. However I can make a list of sons of MLB players who I saw play in the minors: Ben Grieve Bobby Bonds Jr. Craig Griffey Malcolm Cepeda Omar Moreno Jr. Eduardo Perez (Tony's kid) Mendoza Line's kid, perhaps a Jr. Fernando Valenzuela Jr. (played 1st) There are probably a few I'm forgetting. Grieve & Perez are the only ones who hung around the bigs for at least a few years. Tom Grieve & Fernando Sr. both visited the local park but I didn't see either.
  10. Heh. I'm wondering who would win a bizarro contest between Manny & Rube Waddell. I was also wondering how many teams still have hair length guidelines. I would have thought the Dodgers would have been one but probably not. I can't wait to see a picture of him in that classic uniform, it'll be a sight!
  11. Actually your thread was most helpful. I realized they had a bunch of limited edition OJC I was looking for at 9 bucks. I used the free shipping and the code on this thread, and got a very good deal after all Yup, a most helpful reminder.
  12. And it will be a lot less interesting. That may be what you want, but the '04 team (with Millar & Damon as well) sure was colorful.
  13. Oh well, it was a fun exercise in planning & hunting. Gotta keep those skills up to snuff! Plus I refined my hunting list & didn't spend a dime! (It also reminded me I am going to have to get a couple of Rev. Gary Davis albums from somewhere real soon.)
  14. Yup, he's a solid citizen and player. He didn't complain about playing in Pittsburgh nor did he demand a trade to winner. He's got a good eye and his power is coming back in his first year back after his knee injury (even his modest speed is coming back.) I would think his numbers have been hurt playing for a losing Pirate team. He's a solid sort, and for the money & team defense I think he's be a much better fit for the BoSox than Teix would have been.
  15. Stick to VORP and PECOTA, he's only 38 til November! Guh...age math is hard! He's still about 23 in my mind. He's had a pretty good July (.271/.386/.541.) No, you don't want him in CF, and I agree, with Ozzie who knows how he'll be played. I imagine he'll play vs. Livan as he has 5 HR in 14 AB vs. him. The Kid has also homered off of Blyleven but I don't think that info is very useful anymore.
  16. Junior to the White Sox. At the risk of making a post free of VORP & PECOTA, I'm happy for the guy at getting a shot at the playoffs. And at 39 he's still got a wee bit of pop against righties. So as a platoon player he could be very useful for 'em. So I go from being ambivalent about the ChiSox (as all people born in downstate IL are ) to kinda rooting for them, just for The Kid's sake.
  17. Hans - stop it ! And for those of you who don't have the Gerald Wilson... Or for those of you who are getting the running low Gerald Wilson and need to add something on sale to the cart....
  18. Thanks for the info. I was wondering what was up with him post-Blue Note (yet had been too forgetful to follow up my wondering.)
  19. $4.23 in Eugene OR. But that's less than it was. Glad I only drive about 3000 miles a year.
  20. For the 3rd playing I decided to start with what might be the lead track on side B with "If Not Now, When?". Whoo-boy, I'm glad I decided play let's pretend this is a thick slab of pristine vinyl since y'all captured that ideal (and I'm not even a vinyl fetishist) so perfectly. It's probably too long for it to be vinyl but it sure has an album feel as "Traces" going into "Danco De Alma" closes a side beautifully. Of course it also works as a CD as now I'm letting it continue on for second helping of the last 4 songs again. It's a beautiful when the artistry & the technical are both executed at a high level. Congrats! I don't mean this to sound backhanded, but you guys keep getting better!
  21. Amazing timing as I just finished watching it. Checked IMDB right after and was saddened to see that Ulrich Mühe had died of stomach cancer. Terrific performance, great movie.
  22. Might want to check out DGM Live. It's King Crimson's live music official download site. The nurse icon on the upper right will help you navigate. Some discussion about it here. There's also the King Crimson Corner. Or is that Kcorner?
  23. I've been going through the same thing. Classical and now blues has been opened up in a big way for me. And the Bessie Smith on the (now playing) Venuti & Lang box has reminded me I need more of that woman. You'd think a certain poster's presence here would have knocked that idea in my head sooner.
  24. Beats being remembered for hemorrhoids. And until somebody hits .400 his run is still remembered by many fans. I'm with Dan. I've never doubted his reaction was real.
  25. Pretty goofy! The Onion hasn't done it's research though as Prince made a big deal at the start of the season about becoming a vegetarian.
