  1. Cool, I got sucked in bad and ended up with about ten discs between them and their off shoots. Their ability to create the sounds with acoustic instruments I have normally heard with electronics is amazing to me.
  2. I got drawn into the orbit of a band called Stars Of The Lid and their offshoots, Dead Texan, Brian McBride, etc.. It's some of the best ambient I've heard since Eno's pioneering work. I consider myself hard to p,ease in Ambient Music. If it has a beat, it's not ambient by my personal definition. Even a pulse is not very welcome in my ambient world. A lot pf the SOTL is on the Kranky label.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I don't consider those albums I mentioned to be "up" albums necessarily. Street Of Dreams, Idle Moments and Matador for example have theor fair share of mellow tunes but if Am I Blue is more somber in mood than those albums that tells me what I need to know. I enjoy quieter moods in my music sometimes, like now, having been awake for less than two hours. Idle Moments (title track) and a cup of tea or coffee in the mornng = bliss.
  4. Like the OP, I consider myself a big fan and I too do not own this, nor have I heard the album. Why did I dance around that title? still.......Can it atand next to Matador, Idle Momemts, Street Of Dream, Solid, Talkin' About? While I'm confessin', I don't own I Want To Hold Your Hand either.
  5. Indeed. It's only magic when you already own the lp and you're making a cdr for the car.
  6. The OP has probably found what he was looking for by now but I just came upon this so pardon.... I have a few of those live sets listed above and they are in good sound. I believe some are FM broadcasts. The oldest one is March 1973 with no specific day or venue and ot is two tracks, Hornets and You'll Know When You Get There.
  7. Oh yeah ! Heard Live Around The World is fantastic. That's when I really noticed Kenny Garrett and became a fan. I ignored a lot of the late period Miles for the longest but a few years ago I heard Siesta, which did give Marcus Miller co-leader credit, while at a shop getting a new cartridge for the TT and it really sounded good to my ears. The keyboard sounds used to get me runnng the opposite direction but hearing it on a super system got my attention and I had to go out and find a copy for myself and I did. I listen to it regularly now. I haven't checked out Amandla yet. Baby steps, baby steps....
  8. Count me in as a fan of Hicks as well. He has a trio album on an Evidence cd wih Bobby Hutcherson and Walter Booker that I really like and another not mentioned is on the Theresa label Some Other Time also w/Walter Booker but Idris Muhammad in place of Hutcherson.
  9. Oliver's Nocturne with Lem Winchester on Moodsville is one of my favorites also.
  10. Sounds like a wonderful man. R.I.P.
  11. Generally speaking I prefer earlier Oliver so the Prestige stuff figures highly. I love Screamin' The Blues, Straight Ahead and a few years ago I found a copy of Nocturne on Moodsville that I like. The older I get the better those Moodsville records sound. Should I be worried? edit:forgot that I used to own Sound Pieces but traded it in a while back. I don't dislike it but I found that I really didn't play it and space is an issue so ot went. I really prefer his smaller group stuff though I recognize his arranging skills in big band. I liked him when he was still reaching for it.
  12. Jessica Williams said hers had a second pressing and of hers did I would i guess some of the others did too. You're probably right about this niche inside a niche. It's not so much that I think they need to be repackaged but I can't nelp but notice that box sets seem to be a what is happening these days. That would be aimed at the collector imo. Casual music buyers aren't going to by a big box of discs very often of at all.
  13. I'm surprised Concord hasn't done some kind of box for the Maybeck Recital Hall recordings. It is a lot of discs so maybe that has something to do with it.
  14. Picked up some used lps today at my favorite local. kenny Wheeler Quintet - Flutterby, Butterfly (Soul Note) The Paul Bley Group (Soul Note) Egberto Gismonti - Sol Do Meio Dia (ECM) Max Roach Again Vol.2 (Yes To Jazz) Portugal pressing Al Cohn & Zoot Sims - Body and Soul (Muse) Doc & Merle Watson - Pickin' The Blues (Flying Fish) Randy Newman (Reprise) orig. mono average price was under $8. I got a bit of a discount which helped. I have the original stereo pressing of the Randy Newman album but decided to check out the mono for grins since it was only $6.
  15. Oh crap, I made that classic mistake of mixing Sweden and Switzerland. Apologies to everyone from both countries. I don't know if I wanted it to be the same or I'm going blind. It's as plain as day in the post. I blew past Zurich in the thread title too! Aye.

  17. I hope my comment didn't come off snarky or anything. It wasn't meant to be. I'm surprised you've run out of room to tighten it which males me wonder of you have a smallish guitar neck. I use mine on both electric and acoustic guitars (Taylor, Fender and Yamaha) and I've never had that issue.
  18. Speaking of Bennie Maupin, I exchanged emails with him recently and he said he was working on a new album with Dr. Patrick Gleason and that he would be in L.A. to play upon it's release. I'm not sure how many other places he is going to play but this is very preliminary so I'm sure all will be revealed in time. His last two on Cryptogramaphone were great imo.
  19. Are you familiar with Robert Keeley pedals? His compression boxes are some of the best in the business imo but the pedal that really surprised me was one called a Dynatrem. It's a tremolo but a lot more. I have been able to get all kinds of cool sounds including what sounds almost like a reverse/backward tape effect. It's pretty complex as pedals go and I'm not one to use pedals much outside of some compression or overdrive sometimes, especially if I'm playing low volume but it's a lot of fun. https://robertkeeley.com/product/dynatrem/
  20. I have the same capo (Planet Waves) so I'm wondering why you haven't adjusted the tension on your capo which is why it is what that design is for. The little round nob with the PW icon is what you turn to increase or decrease the tension. I don't have any issues with mine and I've had it for years now. It looks bulkier than that other model pictured from another company but the dimensions can't be much different. It might look bigger because of the design and the magnified photo.
  21. I have a Sonny Rollins recording on DIW from Swedish Radio dated March 4,1959 except for one track which is also from a Swedish radio station "around the same time" with Henry Grime and Pete La Roca . The cd says it was produced by Dragon Reccords. Could this be some of the dame tracks? My cd has seven tracks. There is no Horace Silver here, just to be clear. if there is one track here from another station that could mean there are more tracks available.
  22. Ivan Moravec plays French Music (Supraphon) I only discovered this wonderful pianist about a year ago so I'm still kind of in the infatuation stage with him. He has a touch that produces a tone that really connects with me. I have not listened to this music enough to say whether he is playing the right notes and in the right way as the composer intended but it's beautiful to my ears.
  23. G,ad to see you're not here on your birthday. Hopefully you are having fun somewhere. Cneers.
  24. The Great Jazz Trio (Hank/Ron/Tony) playing Tony's Pink Lady on an album from 1978. I got it from CDJapan recently. The original Great Jazz Trio in all its glory. Tony kicks it up a bit and makes Hank sweat. Nah, not really, but it is a spirited tune well played. the album is The Great Tokyo Meeting on East Wind.
  25. One of my favorite albums on that label bar none.
