  1. Beautiful! Thanks Jim.
  2. Just found a fairly decent copy of this at Waterloo, I've been wanting to re-aquire this collection for some time. I'm not a big enough fan of the individual albums to really need them...and this is the collection I listened to non-stop as a child.
  3. Gloria Graham...mmmm...NASHTY!
  4. This is too upsetting for me to comprehend right now, will post thoughts later.
  5. Where was this published?
  6. Yep. Directed by the master Jacques Tourneur.
  7. A nice still from Out of the Past:
  8. So now's the time to ask: who is that anyway? Jane Greer. Hollywood actress. Jane Greer
  9. The result of too much coffee last night. Good thing I got distracted by our chat room, which was full of late night... I'm awaiting my royalty check for avatar usage.
  10. yeah, this cat has great taste.
  11. I've always been curious about that Shepp/Dollar Brand disc, how is it?
  12. Maybe we can all just bury the grudges and get along time?
  13. Damn. I was just listening to his playing on the Secret Ellington album minutes ago... R.I.P.

    Archie Shepp

    Agree 100%.
  15. I sent him a PM over the weekend, haven't heard back. But that could just mean he doesn't want to talk to me.
  16. Seriously, this bothers me, too. Been there, done that, getting ready to do it again....
  17. I go through "genre" moods at regular intervals...at this particular point in time I'm in a "no hard bop zone", can't stand to hear any of it. Other types of jazz sound good to me, but you couldn't pay me to listen to a Blakey album right now. But listening to Hendrix, CSN&Y, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Black Sabbath, Steely Dan....that stuff is making me feel good right now. So I'm glad I have access to it. The mood will shift again and I'll be off on another tangent, but that's just the way I'm wired.
  18. Some of my manufactured late 80's discs look worse than the CDR's...but most seem to still play. I have one that has about 30 pinholes through it (when held up to the light) but it still tracks all the way through.
  19. Went back and listened to some of the Reuben Wilson album. While it does have some nice funky grooves, it's also cluttered up with sitars, un-inspired backing vocals on some tracks, etc. I have a copy because of my Jerome Richardson obsession...but it can probably be safely skipped by those who are turned off by early 70's BN production qualities.
  20. My oldest CDR's (from the late 90's) still play fine...
  21. That's coming out next year. If 300 is any indication of the director's talents I'll definitely be skipping that one.
  22. Can't agree, I think it was perfectly paced and executed. I also think there were many other strengths to the film besides Ledger's performance. In fact this is one of the very few (recent) movies I would give a perfect **** star rating to.
