  1. I've been trying to sell my soul, but it's not worth anything after taxes.
  2. Yes, quite a few times in my life actually. LP's, cassettes, CD's, VHS, DVD's...you name it I've sold it. It ALWAYS sucks, but life goes on.
  3. Agreed. Of course Jim is well aware of my fondness for Byrd...but that primarily starts a little later when he started recording for Blue Note. His early work is "spotty", but there are great moments to be had (like his work with Garland on Prestige). One of those guys who was over-recorded right at the beginning...but I view those early recordings as his training ground for the much better work he did later.
  4. no. what he said
  5. Have to disagree with this, humans have two ears for a reason...
  6. Those "fold down" options usually have advanced settings, sometimes they reduce the level of the tracks before combining...that's what you don't want. I'll play around with a couple free programs this evening and get back to you with suggestions. The only records I've ever felt the desire to collapse were the Time recordings.
  7. I'll recall the Soul Jazz Posse I sent looking for you....
  8. Personally I think album cover art is just as "significant" as any other type of visual medium. Whether it's on canvas or a CD cover matters not to me.
  9. I'm still using the Insignia speakers I bought at Best Buy...under $100 for a pair and sound better that quite a few $400 sets I've heard.
  10. Duke Pearson Wahoo The Right Touch Sweet Honey Bee etc. etc. Plus his work on a myriad of Blue Note dates (both credited and un-credited) ranging from Lee Morgan's Charisma to Mobley's Slice Of The Top
  11. Legend of a Mind - The Moody Blues Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. He'll fly his astral plane, Takes you trips around the bay, Brings you back the same day, Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. He'll fly his astral plane, Takes you trips around the bay, Brings you back the same day, Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. Along the coast you'll hear them boast About a light they say that shines so clear. So raise your glass, we'll drink a toast To the little man who sells you thrills along the pier. He'll take you up, he'll bring you down, He'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground. He flies so high, he swoops so low, He knows exactly which way he's gonna go. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. He'll take you up, he'll bring you down, He'll plant your feet back on the ground. He'll fly so high, he'll swoop so low. Timothy Leary. He'll fly his astral plane. 12. LOL. My problem wasn't with Karn 9 Evil...my problem was with any past member of Mr. Big which I think was one of the WORST bands in the history of the world. More Giger.
  13. About time!!!!
  14. The longer I've listened to Cannonball the less I'm impressed with the 50's era recordings, at this point in time my interest really starts with the Adderley Sextet w/Lateef (which is my personal favorite) and goes from there. Another case of time changing perspective... As for Somethin' Else, I've always considered that a Miles Davis album...the arrangement of Autumn Leaves and the title track have his stamp (or possibly Gil Evans stamp) all over them.
  15. I've used the RP90 and it's "okay", some effects are good but it's cumbersome to edit and save changes. I've heard good things about the Line 6 POD effects, though I haven't had a chance to play around with them. Guitar Center has racks of these things set up so you can test drive them, I'd try them out before purchasing them.
  16. Funny guy, really enjoyed him in the Oceans films. 50 is too early to go.
  17. Try this one out...
  18. Well that's a good way to ruin a perfectly good Saturday morning.
  19. Jethro Tull - Stormwatch (Chrysalis)
  20. Good article!
  21. For some reason I find this cover frightening....Ken & Barbie meet Village of the Damned!
  22. How many jazz "compositions" are based on I Got Rhythm for chrissakes? New technology...but same practice. Screw it, I say let things evolve. Time to throw all the old hang-ups out the window, it's a new century, the world has changed and it ain't ever goin' back. Either embrace the way things are...or prepare to be really unhappy for the rest of your life.
  23. Why is music the exception? In business I can't go around stealing ideas and property from people that have it all protected. At least, not legally. Even though I to have to pay for and renew annually my expensive-ass licenses, permits and all kinds of other bullshit. Go figure. It's not like DJ Girl Talk (lame ass name, by the way) is doing this for the love of it all and is not getting paid. Why should he not pay a token to those that really own it? I believe the point is that some of these "mash-up" compositions contain pieces from dozens and dozens of songs, with the current state of copyright law it would cost a fortune to acquire the rights to all of these pieces. Thus if forced to do that many people wouldn't even attempt to create these types fo pieces in the first place...thus copyright law stifling creativity. I'm with Jim on this one.
