  1. Those Castle remasters weren't even made from the original master tapes, FYI.
  2. There is no such thing as "too many fart jokes".
  3. Cornell Woolrich - The Bride Wore Black
  4. Too poor to be an audiophile. I enjoy a great sounding system, but I've lived most of my life with mid-grade gear...it's worked for 38 years, why change now?
  5. I'll grant them that, but the problem is their offense isn't capable of handling a 17 point deficit right out of the gate. Their only hope to win games until the offense gets fixed is to smother the opposing teams with defense and keep games very close. That's a tall order and puts all the weight on the defense. I felt sorry for Zorn, he was one of my childhood heroes.
  6. There was a defense on the field? What an absolutely lame opening game match-up, whoever thought of that snoozer lineup should be ousted. The Redskins are beyond pathetic.
  7. Well? Surprisingly it was a very good show. I didn't like all the material, but as a whole they're definitely an interesting band. They have the ability to be a jam band, but they're happy with being succinct and keeping the songs relatively short. They did stretch out on a few numbers and were quite impressive. The one guitarist played pedal steel on quite a few tunes and also played saxophone on a couple songs. Their drummer is rock solid.
  8. It is depressing...but at the same time I'm hoping they'll just let movies speak for themselves now...
  9. Be careful, those things can get nasty when they grow up....
  10. Vacuum?
  11. New Orleans gets all the press, but Biloxi was the center of where Katrina hit and was leveled. Many members of my family live about 5 miles from Biloxi, including my Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, Nephew and various cousins. It looks like this storm is going to veer more towards New Orleans than Biloxi this time so I'm hopeful that everyone will come through all right. Interesting quote from my Mother yesterday: "Hopefully New Orleans will be spared so we don't have to listen to them complain for the next 3 years. Here in Mississippi we picked ourselves up and got on with our lives, all they've done (New Orleans) has been to whine non-stop since Katrina".
  12. To paraphrase Yosemite Sam: "Audiophiles is SO stupid!"
  13. I'm scared of any thread that starts with "Check out this guy's organ".
  14. I have enough issues with 6 strings....
  15. I'll be nervous for days. My Mother and most of my Father's family live in Ocean Springs MS (5 miles from Biloxi), I hate it everytime one of these storms heads into the gulf.
  16. "How now brown frog" just doesn't have the same ring to it...
  17. True, I was speaking about the action sequence specifically. It used to be possible to film a 5 minute chase sequence without using an edit every micro-second.
  18. I honestly didn't even notice the revolving camera...which is something that's been in use for a long time now and abused by others way before Nolan. That technique doesn't bother me nearly as much as uber-fast MTV style editing and shaky hand-held camera...I saw the last Bourne film in the theater and felt like I was going to puke before it was over. Not a single action scene in that film is coherent due to there being so many cuts you can never tell what is happening to whom. I miss the days of The French Connection, Bullitt and movies with very long takes. One of the things I admire about Nolan is that he hates CGI and uses it as sparingly as possible, preferring to use either models or full-scale effects. That to me is WAY more impressive than anything computer generated. Reliance on CGI has almost ruined film in my opinion.
  19. I did a test last week, got up in the morning and waited to see how long I could go without a cigarette. I managed about 1 hour and 45 minutes, then I was in the car heading to the store to buy a pack. Doesn't mean I won't try again soon, but it does kind of make you realize the strength of the addiction. I've been smoking 1 1/2 packs a day of Marlboro reds since 1984. I'm such a basket case in general at the moment that I'm afraid what I might do if I add nicotine withdrawals into the mix.
  20. A friend of mine is dragging me to see "My Morning Jacket" tonight at Stubbs...I guess we'll see whether I regret it or not.
  21. Been down this particular discussion road a few too many times, so for the most part I'll abstain. However, I don't know about most people but 30 second samples per track isn't nearly enough for me to decide if I want an album or not.
  22. You should call Lou Donaldson and see what he thinks about it.
