  1. Me likes to say that I was joking...humor is a concept you've run across before I take it?
  2. All the "turd-polishing" in the world won't change their corporate image...
  3. Zombie films can be great when done correctly (I Am Legend required no CGI effects for the monsters, superfluous and unconvincing). For examples of recent films taking the Zombie theme and creating new dimensions, try "28 Days Later", "28 Weeks Later" and the brilliant Romero re-boot "Diary Of The Dead".
  4. While we're on the subject of grammar, it's actually Wal Mart with one L. On a serious note of course.
  5. I didn't dislike Hancock, in fact I enjoyed quite a few segments...I just thought it easily could have been much more than it was.
  6. I think the trick is to not take the people who take things too seriously too seriously. True.
  7. The over-seriousness of this board these days is what makes me want to hurl. Think it's just about time for me to check out.
  8. I went and saw it today as well, some thoughts: 1. This should never have been "censored down" to a PG-13 rating, would have been much more effective as an "R". 2. It's basically 2 under-developed story ideas grafted together into a single film. Both stories could have been interesting by themselves if they had paid enough attention to the details. But by trying to compress them into a single 90 minute film it gives neither half enough time to come alive. 3. I have a strong suspicion this film endured a great deal of post-production tinkering by the studio. 4. It's more of a frustrating film than a bad film, there was alot of potential here that was unfortunately not carried to fruition. 5. The performances are far better than the film deserves. **1/2

    Kenny Burrell

As mentioned before most of KB's leader dates in the 50s ended up being "blowin' session" affairs, not really guitar-focused albums. However one album not mentioned where the sparks definitely do fly is On View At The Five Spot Cafe with Tina Brooks onboard. The live session cooks, with Hallelujah especially standing out. Then of course later the same year is another live date which is a stone classic, previously mentioned by Jim earlier in the thread: While I enjoy the earlier blowing session dates, I think it's these albums where Kenny really hits his stride.

  11. As far as I'm concerned Dentists are the most over paid medical professionals, the prices are fucking ridiculous. I mean a root canal is really worth $600 or more? They usually take about an hour...that's one hell of an hourly rate. Give me a break.
  12. I've learned the hard way that once you do a root canal a crown is ALWAYS necessary...I know because I have 4 teeth that are broken off at the gum line because I didn't get the crowns on them. The reason I never had it done was that even with insurance, crowns were too damn expensive. Once you do a root canal the tooth is dead and the enamel becomes brittle.

In the case of Bluesy Burrell, I think Kenny wanted the focus on Hawk, the arrangements seem to be geared in that direction.
  14. My question is why exactly does it even matter? I listen to music because I enjoy it, I could care less about it's "street cred". I can't see someone of Al's age meaning a thing to anyone young enough to have "street cred" themselves. I don't tend to break down music along racial lines though, it's not something that's important to me. But that's of course my opinion.
  15. Happy Happy Joy Joy! Hope you both enjoyed your birthday!
