  1. Many more happy ones.
  2. Good for you! Unpack any guitars yet? Naw...I've been too busy playing Jazzbo's axes...he's got several cool ones!
  3. Someone told me once that Kottke's style was very demanding physically and after the first couple albums he basically couldn't play for awhile (damaged tendons or something), he then had to basically re-learn how to play and that changed his style for his later albums. Not sure if it's true or not but it's a good story.... I've heard some later albums that didn't really thrill me...but that first one. WOW! Otherworldly.
  4. I have arrived! Took about 25 hours (including pit stops) but I made it in 2 days. I'm exhausted but VERY excited to be here!
  5. Yep, they kinda go together. "Almost, cut my hair...."
  6. I knew that Joe would hit on the Porpoise Song!
  7. Point taken, but there seems to be about 10,000 song lyrics database archives on the internet.... Sticking to snippets of lyrics shouldn't be beyond the realm of fair use. Any more than adding quotes from your favorite book or movie to a signature (yes, I'm guilty of that too). ... back on topic, the lyrics you posted above I heard many times as a kid, one of my Mother's favorite songs.
  8. It definitely didn't "suck", it was spotty, but there's some damn interesting stories in that series. The best ones are the Richard Matheson scripts; one of my all-time favorite authors.
  9. "White collared conservative flashing down the street, Pointing their plastic finger at me. They're hoping soon my kind will drop and die, But I'm gonna wave my freak flag high..." and "Fall mountains, just don't fall on me." Mr Hendrix
  10. Ten Years After - 50 Million Miles Beneath My Brain I want to know you I want to show you I want to grow you Inside of me I want to see you I want to free you I want to be you Inside of me Love me 50,000 miles beneath my brain Love me 50,000 times and then again Can you love me with a thousand eyes? Can you see right through my bones? Can you kiss me with a thousand lips? Can you melt a solid stone? Can you hear me from a thousand miles When you're screaming at the stars? Can you pull me up to Jupiter When I'm all hung up on Mars? Burn my eyes with your flame Let your world spin free Let it go, baby I'll do the same All depends on me Let it go It's all the same What with jewels that you can't see Love me, love me, love me, love me, love me, babe Bring it on home to me...
  11. 98 degrees this afternoon and REALLY humid. Then it cooled off amazingly quick this evening and we ended up with a near fog outside from the humidity (at first I thought there was a fire somewhere because it looked like smoke)...it wasn't raining, but when I took the trash out the air was full of mist. Strange.
  12. "Tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers...." which could be completed by: "...I smoked so much reefer the buzz it always lingers."
  13. The thought of losing films from that back catalog is just as frightening to me as the music....at least it was just the prints and I'll "take their word for it" that they had backups of everything that was lost.
  14. Haven't heard those...but look interesting. I completely forgot about this thread. A.R.C.D. (age related cognitive decline)
  15. I'd at least be curious to hear how it comes out, just to see how accurate the software is. I see it as an experiment, nothing more, nothing less.
  16. Not "every" album is recorded digitally these days, there are still some artists out there (Lenny Kravitz comes to mind) who only record with vintage gear, leaving the A/D as the very last step. Wolfmother is another recent band who insisted none of the equipment used on their album should be post-1973. But of course these are exceptions and not the rule. There have to be "analog only" studios out there still for those who have the money/desire to go that route. Another band that loves vinyl; Queens Of The Stone Age - they issue LP only bonus tracks that don't show up on either the CD or download versions of their albums.
  17. The only one on vinyl I ever owned was Cecil Payne's The Connection (w/Kenny Drew), nice session but not a very good pressing.
  18. The company I work for (which is nationwide, but actually a fairly small family owned affair) is being murdered by insurance company increases. It now appears that they won't be able to continue providing full medical/dental insurance, instead they will probably only be able to offer "catastrophic coverage" and a medical savings plan to help with costs. This is compounded by a fairly quick dropoff in our revenue stream, which seemed to almost happen overnight...up until the middle of May things were trucking along quite nicely, but since then many regions have dropped significantly.
  19. Well I dig some of the early Chicago and BS&T stuff...but this doesn't quite measure up IMHO.
  20. Okay, I just listened to "the hit" and had two thoughts. 1. How in the hell did this become a hit in the first place? 2. I think I'll pass...it sounds like a jazzier version of Uriah Heep.
  21. Download please! I'm excited to hear this...
  22. The database thing, yeah, it can be cumbersome to load the information in initially...so it IS more difficult than just popping on an album or CD. But it's also opened up interesting avenues. I added database fields for the type of combo (organ trio, guitar trio, solo piano, quintet, sextet, etc). So when I'm in the mood for solo piano, I don't have to search through thousands of discs...I just run a quick filter and sort by combo type and voila...instant playlist. I'm sure I'll continue to glance through vinyl racks and pick up the occasional gem, but I'm going to avoid the audiophile pressing and collector's pricing stuff like the plague...I've spent enough money on music the past 30 years or so, I've been in a "cooling down" phase for quite a while. Got many other things in my life that I'd like to point the disposable income towards...like buying musical instruments....
  23. Now that's an album that DEFINITELY has me interested! (resident Pearson/Turrentine nut).
  24. Not in my experience...but I'm probably whining too loudly myself to notice.
