  1. They've already won the division, yes?
  2. If music truly is a universal language, then the culture it sprang from really shouldn't matter anyway. I just listen.
  3. Lost: Season 5 Re-watching the series with a friend that's never seen it, been blasting through the series at a fever pace, just starting on season 5. It's a blast re-living this epic, especially enjoying the after-episode discussions that it sparks. The sheer breadth of this show still boggles my mind.
  4. He was playing with white dudes for white dudes? That Uncle Tom Motherfucker
  5. .....or record company executives. Aren't they extinct now? (record company executives, not the snakes)
  6. No -- my account of Wynton and the J@LC B.S. in my book "Jazz In Search of Itself" is the best thing that's ever been written or ever will be written on this topic. I defy anyone to say otherwise, and they're liars if they do. In fact, I'll hunt them down, f--- their wives, and eat their children.
  7. This one sentence is enough to make me ignore ANYTHING this cat has to say: "I mean, the hubris of a White man to give me a history lesson on a music that I’m an established master in."
  8. Okay, I take back all the stuff I said before. Payton is simply a jackass. Amen to that. Payton needs to shut the fuck up and play his horn.
  9. The fans (or at least many of them) WANT the players to beat the living hell out of each other, that's one of the primary draws of the sport in the first place. You constantly hear players and commentators bemoaning all the rules that have "softened" the game too much, especially around how daintily the QB's are treated and how all the rules are geared in their favor. Players are supposed to "fly to the ball", when you have 3 defensive players all converging on one ball carrier at full speed, how can you consistently keep from hitting someone in the head? It's not possible. Huge men running at full speed and colliding with each other is inherently dangerous and that's just the way it is. Don't get me wrong, I personally hate to see players get injured, but it's part of the game and always has been. It's a violent fucking sport, the players know this. The fans know this...and that's why many of them watch it. People love to see "the big hit", they love to see someone get taken down and then have to be helped off the field. Sure, they probably wouldn't admit to that, but it's the truth.
  10. Hank Mobley - Soul Station Not sure why, it just does.
  11. First thing: Reset the PRAM. Here's how: 1. Power the computer down. 2. Hold down Option+Command+R 3. Push the power button and then immediately move your finger to hold down the P key on the keyboard (the goal is to have Command+Option+P+R all pressed while it powers on). You'll hear 1 start-up chime, keep holding the buttons down until you hear a second start-up chime. One you hear the second chime let the buttons go and it will reboot normally. If it's a corrupt parameter that should clear it. What model macbook do you have? Does it have a removable battery or is it built-in? If it's removable you can take the battery out to see if it's swollen. If it's built-in you'll need to take it to an apple store to get looked at. Hope the first option helps. One thing to note, the Apple Store should be able to turn any repair around within 7 days.
  12. Duke Pearson - for both his musical contributions and his "behind the scenes" work with Blue Note Johnny Griffin Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis
  13. Society has "been doomed" for a long time now, we're just starting to see the cracks finally appear beneath our feet.
  14. My guess more discussion has gone on about Payton because of this stupid post than his music has EVER inspired.
  15. Now starting on Season 2 of Eureka. I prefer Warehouse 13 but this show is still quite charming and entertaining.

Thanks for sharing that! I've sampled some BS&T, but it's not really doing much for me thus far.

I've been listening to the first couple albums today. The debut I've heard before, but this was the first time I've listened to II all the way through. Good stuff for the most part, a little more adventurous than I was expecting, a nice surprise actually. There is still a "cheesiness factor" to some of the material that bugs me, but overall I'm digging it.
  19. 4 British hippies...
  20. Great episode of television right there. Happy Turkey!
