  1. A String of Pearls by Glenn Miller (no, I'm not kidding)
  2. Hank was one of the first jazz players I became obsessive about, time has not changed that one iota.
  3. Every time you play a tape the some of the metal particles on the tape get stripped off as they pass over the heads (that's why you had to clean cassette players, the dirt was tape residue). With tapes as old as these, some degradation is natural anyway, then add to that playing them each and every time someone wants to make a fresh master and there is risk of permanent damage. There have already been 24bit transfers of this material (the RVG's for example), so to some it could seem like an unnecessary risk to keep playing these over and over.
  4. Thanks for the update! Should be a fantastic record and I look forward to hearing how the dynamics work now that the "dissonant" sections have been removed.
  5. yeah, I can see that. But it's not like he was snorting lines of coke off a stripper on his bus...the dude was smoking some herb...which is getting decriminalized quickly on a state by state basis (CT and DC just recently)...maybe it's time to just let the guy slide.
  6. at the moment, coffee. Then we'll see what beers they have at the bar I'm going to.
  7. digital single (for charity)
  8. REASONABLE DOUBT The level of certainty a juror must have to find a defendant guilty of a crime. A real doubt, based upon reason and common sense after careful and impartial consideration of all the evidence, or lack of evidence, in a case. Proof beyond a reasonable doubt, therefore, is proof of such a convincing character that you would be willing to rely and act upon it without hesitation in the most important of your own affairs. However, it does not mean an absolute certainty.'' http://www.lectlaw.com/def2/q016.htm
  9. Here's the thing. She was tried by a jury of her peers. The prosecution has to nail the case PERFECTLY, they didn't, they ruled not guilty. She was acquitted. End of story.
  10. and if there is even a shred of reasonable doubt, it's the jury's duty to rule not guilty.
  11. http://www.tokeofthetown.com/2011/07/willie_nelson_marijuana_plea_deal_rejected_by_judg.php A proposed plea deal in music legend Willie Nelson's marijuana possession case has been rejected by a vengeful Texas judge who said she wants harsher punishment for the 77-year-old singer.... Bitch.
  12. I was standing out in front of the CNN building on Sunset Blvd earlier this evening, the sign crawling around the side of the building was talking about this case. It basically said "....is either the most talented defense attorney in the country, or the luckiest.". Really? That's insightful ain't it? Someone put a lot of thought into that particular headline.
  13. I went there frequently in 2005 when I was in town on business. Never had a ton of money to spend, but really enjoyed just browsing.
  14. people driving while texting and/or yapping on their fucking cell phones are still more dangerous than just about anyone else. They will be more likely to crash into a motorcyclist whether they are wearing a helmet or not.
  15. This happened on some OJC reissues. For example, the original Swingville LP Night Hawk had five tracks. It was later reissued on Prestige PR 7671 with a sixth track from the same session (a different composition, not an alternate take), but when the OJC CD came out, it only included the original five tracks. I guess someone in the chain didn't research properly. Just looking in a standard discography before doing a reissue would reveal these things. That was the example I thought of.
  16. Peter Lorre's roommates from "M"?
