  1. I had a feeling I would be pleased with the albums on either side. I was RIGHT! Thanks!
  2. To anyone with a discography, what albums are on either side of "Wahoo" (Duke Pearson). (few each direction, just curious).
  3. that was a joke that somebody's editor didn't catch.
  4. Happy Father's Day to the Dads. Happy Father's Day to Johnny (who passed away in 2005).
  5. Onward to Season 5 (via Netflix)
  6. I heard that he was very ill, a shame.
  7. Thanks for the Herrmann update!
  8. Well said. This phrase "Exceptional, like everything he did at the time." applies equally as well to either player.
  9. I didn't say I felt that way. I said "That's the way alot of people see it I'm sure." Now, do I feel partially that way? yes. Once you change to a NAS device and having a computer as the main stereo component...getting up to the shelf seems kinda silly, when you can just keyword search a song and 50 different versions pop up you can listen to in any order. If I had a choice, I'd much prefer purchasing lossless downloads (at 24bit/96khz if possible), directly from the artist or label, no "non-biodegradable" piece of plastic required, no need to pay the extra for packaging and printed artwork.
  10. Happens when an industry sticks behind an outmoded storage medium for a decade too long. (not many 3.5'' floppy drives around these days, and CDs are closer to that than LPs). CDs are like beer or soda cans. Pop the cap, drain the contents. Once contents are drained, CD is worthless, throw in recycle bin. That's the way alot of people see it I'm sure.
  11. No. It doesn't relate in the same way audio does (mono vs. stereo). Takes up identical space (video+audio).
  12. I agree, Death Magnetic was closer to "form" than they've delivered in many years, just a little overlong and badly mastered. Hopefully they won't spend a year in the studio this time, I think the last album was just tinkered with too long. Rick Rubin is "producing" the next album too (collecting a check and getting wasted by himself somewhere), hopefully the band can soldier on without him (again).
  13. Finally re-discovered the episode that started me watching this show in the first place, "the con man in the meth lab" (season 4, episode 8). This episode seems to be a small breakthrough in deepening the understanding of the central characters and their emotional relationships. Any lingering hesitations I had about Boreanz (who I was not familiar with at the time) were pretty much wiped out during this one episode. He puts in a POWERHOUSE performance here, with no seeming effort at all. Emily matches him step for step. Not sure how they packed this much detail into 42 minutes but I'm sure the expert direction by Allison Liddi (who has quite a TV pedigree glancing at her IMDB listings) helped that along. Over-thinking this? Maybe? Glad to re-experience my real introduction to this series? Definitely.
  14. That sounds like a nice date.
  15. I can't argue with that! Helluva streak there. Looking at just the last 5 grouped together is damn impressive.
  16. Glad you're in recovery! Let someone else carry those grocery bags for a bit. Be well! Shawn
  17. Right, sorry, a little digression of my own there. I think I know what you're getting at. Metallica isn't the most "inspiring" band rhythmically anymore (not since Bob Rock got a hold of Lars), but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I assume Reed knows what he's looking for and he has the benefit of working with a group that's been touring pretty much nonstop for the past 3 years, so they should be tight. Bizarre combinations of musicians that don't appear to have any commonality are at least "curiosities" to me, though whether that turns into actual enjoyment remains to be seen.
  18. There's a song called "Clouds In My House" by Quebec based band Voivod, always thought that would make a good album title. now if it was a prog rock comp? "How Do You Spell Pretentious? ELP".
  19. I jettisoned pretty much all "image" type bands of this type from my collection around high school. But I've still got a soft spot for the '83 thrash explosion from the west coast, mostly Slayer (LA) and Metallica (SF), scruffy dudes who looked just like their fans and either pissed off or scared parents to death.... That never goes out of style.
  20. http://www.rollingst...-album-20110615 "A marriage made in heaven," Reed says in his first interview about the project, in the studio lounge during a break. "I knew it from the first day we played together: 'Oh, man, this is perfection, right in front of me.' "
Odd? yes. Interesting? Strangely, yes as well. It's just too unique of a pairing for me not to check it out.
  21. the "watching a movie" part could be an improvement over the previous option. no comment on the last section.
