  1. It may not be damage that happens right away. It may just cause the tube to fail, or something worse. I'd check with your tech guy or someone who knows the Leslie amp you are using.
  2. Okay. Pretty much a no no in my audio gear, that's why I was wondering.
  3. I'll add that I've used Sovtek 6550WE, Svetlana 6550C, EI KT90(drop in, in most cases, for 6550/KT88) and NOS Tong-Sol 6550's in my amps, and the winner is the Tung-Sols with the KT90's second.
  4. One thing....you are swapping out 12AU7 for 12AX7 in the same 'spot'? If so, can you do that without causing problems with the amp? I know I like certain Mullard 12AU7's in my audio gear. Maybe another to try.
  5. There are 3 different types(construction wise) of Tung-Sol 6550's. You'll have to decide which kind to get. More research... Access to a tube tester? A very good and still affordable NOS 12AU7 is the RCA cleartop. I've seen many in old organs at the Goodwill. I'd call Kevin Deal and see what feedback he's gotten from others with Leslie speakers, especially regarding the 12AU7 and 12AX7. He says 90% of his business is to musicians.
  6. SS lives in South Central, he better be playing Snoop. I usually listen to his CD's once to listen for the old neighborhood references.
  7. The Dons went 18-10, falling in the second round to Capistrano Valley (Mission Viejo, CA) --CIF-SS Div IIAA L 55-57. Maxpreps.com is a good site for info like this.
  8. I'd leave it sealed and get the OJC vinyl. You will have to open it to varify it's an original before selling.
  9. I'm pretty sure the purpose of the music/musicians was/is to experience the aesthetic and not to analyze. Let yourself be moved and touched and changed, etc., etc.. The critical or over analyzing comes in to play when you are influenced by others and not being yourself and open to the music/musicianship. Or, you just do not like it. Simple, but it works for me. YMMV
  10. No problems with your thinking as far as I can see. Sometimes, less is more.
  11. I'd call it a new moment of time, but I agree, that is the key and often hard to arrive at.
  12. Here we go.... A thread not about the analytical, but the aesthetic of music.
  13. Interesting. What is the purpose of music? What's the purpose the musicians had when playing? Familiarity may be one the reasons for the loss of music's power. The recording has it's limitations. More good live dates could refresh. After a hike does the music not sound as familiar?
  14. Have you tried many different types in the Leslie?
  15. Well, our season lasted longer than I thought it would this year. Entered the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA (California) tournament as a wild card and won three straight. Then won a coin flip to play Etiwanda(Fontana, CA, 28-1 and ranked 8th nationally) in our home gym in the quarter finals. We beat Etiwanda last year for the championship. They have all their players back and we have a young team. I was worried about us getting blown out. Long Beach Poly(Long Beach, CA) 49 Etiwanda 51 Watched the game with an old friend/neighbor, Charles Gwynn, Tony Gwynn's(MLB Hall Of Fame) older brother.
  16. Kevin Deal at Upscaleaudio.com may be someone to talk to. How many 6550/KT88 does the amp use?
  17. No, my old stock, no hole, grey plates are doing fine. Always liked the EI KT 90's for new stock.
  18. Nice job Parkertown! I do this on cigar boards now and then. Sealed RVG(BMG) of Maiden Voyage to first to post.
  19. No real info for you. I bought 5-10 of these when they first came out and think they are a good product. I'm just guessing that they will not be the ones you get from vinyl.com.
  20. LMAO Hopefully, the results of a recent study will comfort those who have concerns over records not being played. The study revealed that the number one reason that records are not being played is........ no working turntable.
  21. Even if I buy doubles or triples, I've learned the hard way to open and inspect/play every copy as soon as I get them. I'm either happy with the quality and put it away or I send the defective copies back. I have quite a few extra copies of great LP's that will never be pressed on vinyl again. It's nice having the extras. I guess it's like having two mint cars in case I wreck one.
  22. Lost a bunch of info in cleaning up my computer and swithching ISP's. Can someone give me the link. The guys love them over at the cigar BB I frequent. Thanks!!
  23. I see nothing wrong with applying a bit more pressure to see if it can get resolved. Three questionable trades in a row?? No communication?? His only post lacks substance. I'm glad folks like him are rare on this board.
  24. Hampton Hawes: The Sermon Hawkins: Night Hawk Hawkins/Eldridge/Hodges: Alive! At The Village Gate
  25. Some much needed Dinah Washington (After Hours) coming my way. I'm liking this place and the one CD a month set-up. I wonder what the next RVG's will be? And when they will be listed?
