Mosaics on E-Bay and the "domestic diva"
wolff replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm actually very thankful to the people who buy collections of Mosaics and sell them on eBay for a profit. I'm pretty sure the person who sold the collection to the profiteer is also happy. I think the original poster is really upset with high prices, which has nothing to do with the person selling them for a profit. Lame ass red herring. -
Hmmmm...don't know about this. Seems hard on the stylus/cantilever assembly. I like the idea of having grooves clean before they get to the (sometimes) expensive stylus.

Powerful little beast!

Does Snoop Dog need a B3er?

Thanks! That's about how I imagined it would look. 25 watts?

Just as important as the tubes are the capacitors and resistors in the circuits(especially in the power supply). Have these measured as they can go bad and off spec, too.
-
Tube life can be very, very long. It can also be relatively short. Many factors involved having little to do with the tube, but also the circuit it's in. I've never liked the idea of hearing tubes dying. At least in audio gear, it's a very gradual decline and I do not really notice it. That said, I do notice a bad tube in my phono stage fairly quickly, as they can get noisy when the cartridge signal is amplified 20,000 times. Once or twice a year I test all my tubes with a tube tester. I also buy my tubes from someone who has the equipment and knowledge to test for things other than the 'life left' in a tube.

Any pictures of the Leslie speakers guts/amp?

Andrew Hill: Compulsion Andrew Hill: Andrew! Man, it's nice to listen to decent analog after listening to some iffy CD's I just bought. That's it, for me, on the CD's for awhile. Out of the last 10 I bought, there are only two I will listen to again. Too much other great music with decent sound on vinyl. Compulsion(original mono) is quite an excellent recording. Great deep, resonant bass clarinet and natural highs. Hill has really become one of my 'go to' musicians.

Horace Silver Trio (RVG) Monk: Genious Of Modern Music Vol. 1 (RVG) Brown/Roach: At Basin Street (Verve Master Edition) Dinah Washington: Ultimate

Nope. You have cigars worth more than $9.98 price tag on this LP. All this fuss over an OJC. This LP is still in print if you want to order another sealed copy.

The ugly, growin greed of being a jazz/music lover
wolff replied to cool_blue's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I do not get this statement. Sure, collectors have influenced the price of an original Cool Struttin'. Why does not having the original cause you anguish? Seems like your problem, not theirs. Plenty of re-issues of this title, both CD and vinyl, available for $10-$40. -
I think that is the only Sundazed Dylan I do not have. Need to get it next order, along with a couple of the jazz titles that just came out. Dylan: Freewheelin'(Sundazed-mono) Heaven!! Parlan: Mosaic set..Speakin' My Piece sides.

I really can't respond to the generalization in the first post. How about a specific example? What LP was being offered? What were they asking? What did you offer? I just do not buy the expensive LP's. It does not bug me one bit if True Blue is going for 2K. More than enough affordable OOP originals, new originals and some absolutely fabulous re-issues to keep me happy and broke. One other thing, many vendors pay high prices for stuff that comes in, and they may just be passing on the cost to you. -
How much do you wanna spend?? Are you going to play the LP's after you dub them?
-
Hmmmm... Yes, what is it with Scorpio and their audiophile, 180 gram pressings from CDR's that they are so ashamed of.LMAO Maybe that's why I own zero, and my money goes elsewhere, ie: Sundazed, Venus, Eighty Eights, Speakers Corner, Classic Records, 4 Men With Beards, Analogue Productions, Mobile Fidelity and whatever vinyl Hoffman and Grey master. True masters in the analogue domain. And with the continued improvements in vinyl playback(phono stages, turntables and cartridges, I, happily, see no end in sight.

It's great to see a thread about pianists. Without a doubt my favorite musical instrument. And the one that is the most cheated or lessoned when heard recorded. The most majestic instrument that seldom is recorded as such. Horace Silver..the rest pale in comparison in my listening pleasure. Mayburn Higgins Hank Jones Strickland(I'm sure he is unknown to all of you) With these guys, it's like I hear/see deep into their souls and they make me feel so much. To me, they know the meaning/purpose of art, but can still pay the bills. A tightrope few can walk.

What I don't understand, if you truly care so little about them, why you even bothered, wasting your time, to start a thread bashing them... And for the record, they *do* give awards to "best teachers" - it's just that millions of people don't care about watching them on TV. I can't vouch for the charities or spiritual leaders... Typical RDK enterance. I love you, but you are like one of my vinyl copies of Cornbread. What I don't understand, if you truly care about them, why you even bothered, wasting your time, adding your useless input to a thread that bashes them? Hey, Foxx had Ray and I have RDK. Come up with some new shit, would you. I haven't seen the Oscars in 10 years, but I still have the personal integrity to say what I think about them.

BN 7"'s - what are they and how do they sound?
wolff replied to Dmitry's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
An EP(33 1/3), not a 45? I have a few BN 45's. -
After all the hype I was expecting to be let down by his performance. I was spellbound throughout.....

That may be a good way for you to pick some up cheap. Keep an eye out for Leslie amps or other amps that use the 6550/KT88. Garage sales, Goodwill, etc.. I always pull the back off organs when I see them at similar places.
-
How about the holy grail of 6550/KT88's the GENALEX GOLD LION KT88 used in Leslie's?? LINK
-
Just think of what people think of me when I tell them I have not watched television for years. I get all my important info at the grocery check out line.

Yes, Ned at Triode is another who can steer you straight. Are you visiting Audioassylum/tubes??
