  1. It can get down to a title by title basis. I have some Japanese BN LP's that are rolled off, but to my listening benefit in some cases. They lack the bad HF distortion which is fine by me.
  2. I agree with what you said, but it's not brightness that is wrong with the above mentioned CD. It's very bad distortion. And it adds zero clarity to this one. There is bright and then there is distorted. I add that I am only talking about this one specific title.
  3. Thank you!! I do not understand why the HF distortion is present on this RVG. He either does not hear it, or hears it but likes it. It's really too bad, as it ruins the music for me.
  4. Whatever, Chuckie. Stick to the topic. The LP sounds better than the RGV CD, period. Why he can't hear it or fix it is a mystery to me. Man, the CD sucks in comparison to my iffy 70's pressing. I have no idea how your experience has anything to do with this unless you've made the same comparison. You do not have a clue what I'm talking about. Re-read the first post or bug off.
  5. Ha...ROTFLMO NO, but the guy ended up sending LP back and I returned his $$. He sure was a weird one. But, all ended up OK. You need a Gold Masterdisk? My only Bragg LP is Mermaids and that deals with someone elses politics on occasion.
  6. That is a nice site. Thanks
  7. Hey Chuckie, Another of your posts that makes zero sense. Please translate. Maybe, you should worry about your own age. B-) I suppose my dis of RVG ruffled your feathers. That man needs a new pair of monitors. Yes, many of the 70's pressings are iffy. That just tells you how bad the RVG is. My middle aged ears have not stopped bleading. Oh, and I'm sure you have done the same comparison. Now, bug off and go pick on some newbie in the O/LF forum.
  8. Billy Bragg? Wow, I thought was out of fashion!! I love this man, I heard him everytime he came to Italy. Wolff, I never saw you in the political forum, but it seems you don't dislike Bragg for his political ideas I did not know he had political ideas. Do not pay much attention to an artists political side, just their art.
  9. I do not do many LP vs CD comparisons for various reasons. This one was convenient, so I did it. Blakey: A Night At Birdland Vol. 1 Blue label LP from 70's. RVG CD Vol 1. This one is easy as the cymbols on the CD are way out of whack and incredibly splashy. Pretty much ruins the listening experience for me. Not so on the LP. An enjoyable listen in comparison. I told you it would be quick. Why he does not hear/fix this is a mystery to me. Is the tweater not connected on his monitors?
  10. A seldom seen item with a BIN... Linkypooh
  11. Dire Straits: On Every Street Billy Bragg & Wilco: Mermaid Avenue Blakey: Live at Birdland BN 1521
  12. The only time my big sister would let me in her room was to listen to her music. She often got stuck baby sitting me and hated it, of course. I really liked her Billie Holiday albums. She also had a lot of Dexter Gordan.
  13. "BLAH" for DSOM? or "BLAH" for MFSL? or just BLAH. The MFSL is a killer pressing. Dead quite and great sound. Too bad the Japanese destroyed the presses/vinyl recipe that were used for these...or is that urban legend? Blah, regarding the music..it's decent, but I'm continually amazed at the ink it still gets. Listening to: Weather Report: Heavy Weather(CBS half speed) sold it, so I'm burning it to CD. Ellington/Hodges: Side By Side (Classic Records)
  14. Dark Side Of The Moon...MFSL...blah, but that's just me.
  15. I do not have any, but if it sounds better than my original Lee Morgan's 'Live At The Lighthouse' they must be very nice, indeed. That it trounces the CD, is well..... Germany did and does press some mighty fine LP's.
  16. I like my Denon CDR-W1500(standalone audio component), but then again my wants are very simple. Lp, as is, straight to CD-R Audio disc. The Auto Tracking Mark works great on new/quiet LP's with little noise between tracks, so I do not have to hit a button between tracks. I have a feeling the tt quality may be a big factor in the ATM working on LP's. I have a couple friends that have and like this one, too. The audio quality is very, very good. Maybe, the main factor in our liking this model. After making the copy, I mark it 'Master Copy' and use it to make subsequent dubs/comps as needed.
  17. Don't forget to check Cadence for the older titles at about half the price. While you are there check out the rest of their vinyl and give the GC a real workout!!
  18. Sticking with a few classics tonight. Silver: Tokyo Blues Morgan: Sidewinder Smith: Back At The Chicken Shack Played both stereo and mono versions for the hell of it. I'm in the minority in preferring the stereo versions. After a fairly scary battle with my back, I'm up and dancin'...
  19. Ebay 'Not So' Crazy.... 2 recent Johnny Hodges Mosaic LP sets went for $76 and $113.
  20. I really like the covers...but that's just me. Venus thread Harold Mabern Trio: Don't Know Why Venus(Japan) $22 at Cadence Recoded in 2003. I was very excited to finally get this. Venus is one of the few labels releasing new jazz recordings on vinyl and I'd heard good things from a fellow poster. My only worry was whether or not I'd like the music, as I have little from their stable of artists. The packaging and look and feel of the vinyl ooze quality. IMO the Venus covers are the nicest out there, period. Full, rich, all analog sound(I beleive they spared no expense by recording in both DSD and 30ips tape). Nice hearing a piano that sounds close to actual size!! It sounds very natural which lets me fully enjoy the music and be amazed by his musicianship. Wow! Nice mix of tempos. Very interesting jazz. I recommend getting a title or two(about 40 out there, but going fast) and then more if you like them. Try Cadence for $22 titles..not too bad for Japan imports. Here some titles from the VENUS catalogue that were recorded in last few and are still available on vinyl. Beck, Joe "Girl Talk" Beirach, Richie "Romantic Rhapsody" Beirach, Richie "No Borders" Bollani, Stefano "Black And Tan Fantasy" Bullock, Hiram "Late Night Talk" Hanna, Roland "Dream" Hazeltine, David "Senor Blues" Hazeltine, David "Pearls" Higgins, Eddie "Bewitched" Higgins, Eddie "Dear Old Stockholm" Higgins, Eddie "Dear Old Stockholm Vol.2" Higgins, Eddie "Foolish Heart Vol.1" Higgins, Eddie "Foolish Heart Vol.2" Kuhn, Steve "Sing Me Softly Of The Blues" Kuhn, Steve "Quiereme Mucho" Moffett, Charles "Magic Of Love" Nytrio "Love You Madly" Wilen, Barney "Inside Nitty Gritty" Williamson, Claude "Autumn In Ny" Williamson, Claude "Fiesta" Woods, Phil "Souvernirs" For new jazz releases on vinyl, the label Eighty Eight's out of Japan has pressed a few (AFAIK many of these were recorded to DSD(for the SACD's) and 30ips tape(for vinyl) at the same time): Clark Terry & Max Roach: Friendship Grady Tate: All Love The Great Jazz Trio: Autumn Leaves Eddie Henderson: So What Roy Haynes: Love Letters Lonnie Plaxico: Live at Jazz Standard Will & Rainbow: Harmony Joe Farnsworth: It's Prime time The Great Jazz Trio: Someday My Prince Will Come Marlena Shaw: Lookin' For Love
  21. King Pleasure: Golden Days (hifijazz) with Gerald Wiggins, Matther Gee, Harold Land and Teddy Edwards. The liner notes are helping me catch up on the philosophy PLANETISM, the ultimate 'ism. Webster and Edison: Wanted To Do One Together (Columbia/Classic Records) I think this is a great reissue. Webster and Sweets sound so real, natural, alive and present!
  22. Yes, good to have you! Vinyl lives!!! Do you buy much new/reissued vinyl?
  23. Before refunding I wanted a chance to explain myself and the situation to this guy. Had I not contacted him and just refunded the money, he would have never understood the errors made and would have still thought me a liar and cheat. He just left me positive feedback.
  24. I have all of one original with a cool laminated cover that I bought used, long after it had been released. Got rid of 2 originals that had plain covers. Second pressings were probably Trident logo reissues, but I do not know about their covers. Possibly, totally different. The other cool laminated covers are some of the Bluesville, Moodsville and Swingville covers. I know the Moodsville's and Swingville's came plain, also. At least all my OJC/New Jazz titles have glossy covers.
  25. Thanks. Since this involves vinyl I'll post it here. Sold a guy(not from here) an LP for $10. Got an e-mail that said, This is not any kind of "Gold Master Disc" as you advertised.....this is the regular old Warner Brothers pressing, I aready have copy of this pressing. I will be sending you this copy back and please send my money back. My ad said, Dire Straits: Love Over Gold Masterdisk... I wrote back, Where did I say "Gold Master Disc". The title of the LP is Love Over Gold and Masterdisk did the mastering. He wrote, You have totally mislead me with this ad. If you are welching and misleading let me know now so I don't waste two more dollars shipping you back a regular old pressing which I already have a copy of. I wrote, BTW what's a "Gold Master Disc"(aren't they CD's?) of the LP 'Love Over Gold"? Just curious... He wrote, I have no idea I thought you were selling some "Audiophile" copy of this album...Are you going to return my money or not? BTW What is DEAD WAX? Never heard of it don't know where it is and can't find "MasterDisc" any where on the album...or are we just going to play email games? Soon after this I called him. I had to get to the bottom of this. I explained that people buying this LP, look for Masterdisk and RL in the dead wax. And, that people selling this LP and many others mention Masterdisk when appropriate. He had no idea what I was talking about and was still claiming he could not find Masterdisk in the dead wax. I kept asking him why he thought he was getting a 'Gold Master Disc'. I also asked him what a 'Gold Master Disc' was. And I asked, why he thought I was selling him a 'Gold Master Disc' of the LP 'Love Over Gold'. He had a lot of trouble answering these questions. Right around this point he said , "I probably screwed up, but I do not see 'Masterdisk' anywhere. I said, "Yes, and I understand how you screwed up, but what does it have to do with me? And, the way you talked to me was total bullshit." In a very defeated, beaten down way he said "you win'. But I could tell he was still not taking resposibility, as he could still not find Masterdisk in the dead wax with his pilot's 20/20 vision that gets checked every 6 months, so I just let it go at that. Told him to get some some sleep and look for Masterdisk in the morning. Will I hear from him again? I'm guessing no. Should I refund his money if he still wants it back? If he quits 'playing me' I'll refund. If he still acts like a jerk, no way.
