Yep, $42 ain't bad, considering... I have a hunch these are going to suck big time soundwise compared to the Classic's. These sound like digital re-masters all the way. When is the last time time RVG did anything analog. Go to Classic's website and read how it should be done. Makes me want to go to Red Trumpet and get the Classic BN's I do not have for $25 during sale.

$33.98 each, plus $8 per record shipping from Japan.
-
I think Right Now was his first as leader that I bought. I really liked "Poor Eric". It led to many, many more!!
-
Listened to it a couple times now. Pretty lame cd. Weak, very weak soundwise. Way off....to the point were it bugs me. The other Conns I just got sound good. Young/Mother Ship is quite good and Rivers/Fuchia seems passable so far. Wanna sell your copy???
-
I just got a Conn (not RVG). I hear a lot of distortion throughout the entire song.
-
No hiss on the LP(Mosaic). I'm sure your ceedees were mastered by a hack.
-
Classic has done a few of them (some in stereo and mono) and I'm glad Grundman did them. TOJJ-6501 Somethin' Else Cannonball Adderley 81595 TOJJ-6502 Cool Struttin' Sonny Clark 81588 TOJJ-6503(pre-order) Moanin' Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers 84003 TOJJ-6505 Blue Train John Coltrane 81577 TOJJ-6507 Candy Lee Morgan 1590 TOJJ-6511 Jutta Hip With Zoot Sims Jutta Hip 1530 TOJJ-6517 Undercurrent Kenny Drew 84059 Nice run of titles. Mint Liberty's may be cheaper. How much are these going to be? $40+.
-
I stayed away from these, too. It was easy since I did not want or already had many of their titles. Try Redtrumpet.com . He might be able to point you in right direction.
-
Just ordered the RVG from BMG, but it's Temp. OOS. Soon as I get it I'll let you know. My guess is it's on both.

Why would these LP's have been sitting on shelves for years? I'm sure they did more than one pressing on many titles. Other companies have been re-issuing many of these on vinyl over the years. Check out Acoustic Sounds. You'll pay double, but quality is excellent. Hopefully, the new owners will do runs of vinyl. If not Acoustic Sounds and maybe Classic and others will lease tapes for vinyl. Try ordering the Davis, Coltrane, Ammons, Pepper and Rollins titles. Only one I do not like is Webster at the Renaissance. Real screwy recording. Guys are selling sealed OJC's on eBay all the time. There were quite a few titles that never got repressed. Luckily, only a few I really wanted. I'd call them and get to talking with someone in the LP warehouse and put in a big order. Years ago any order over $100 got free shipping and 10% off.

Do You Lend Out Your Mosaic Sets?
wolff replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Hell no!! I'd loan them my car, camera lenses, stereo amps and fishing gear, but never the Mosaics. All my Mosaic LP sets are now on CD, so I just burn another from these masters. Just sent out 4 Hodges 51-55 sets to jazz newbie friends in return for scotch, Cuban cigars and Cuban rum. -
Undercurrents is a good one, but you really should try one of the 200 gram Blue Note Mono's from Classic. Classic did "Red Arrow"? I know they did "1957". Another great Classis re-issue is Rouse/YEAH! It may be OOP, but still available somewhere. Enjoy the turntable!!

BST-81595-45 Julian "Cannonball" Adderley: Autumn Leaves/ Alison's Uncle Now MLP-4001-45 Anthony Ortega: A Man and His Horns 12" 45rpm. Six Song (Side A) sampler of Anthony Ortega's highly regarded "A Man and his Horn" originally on Herald Records featuring Hank Jones, Ed Thigpen and Addison Farmer recorded by Rudy Van Gelder These two look very interesting.
-
I'm glad it's available and there are parts I like. It may be just me, but the sound is really, really bad and drives me from the room at times. The bad sound takes away from the music. A horrendous recording like this would never be released today.
-
Their prices(the ones I looked at) are crazy. You could do much better on Ebay. Ry Cooder/ Jazz(Mobile Fidelity) $500....I'll sell you mine for $250 Jones, Rickie Lee - Rickie Lee Jones Mobile Fidelity $300...I'll sell you mine for $200
-
Don't the cymbols smear badly on every issue of this set? Except for the music, it's a terrible recording and if I had been in-charge it never would have been released.
-
Love this LP! I wonder if it's one of his better sellers?
-
Thanks, for the heads-up, but by looking at his feedback I would never buy from this guy anyway. I do not see your purchase from him anywhere. What LP was it? I'd like to see the description. Did you leave NF? I filed fraud once and Ebay helped me every step of the way. I can't believe you cannot charge back the cc purchase.

What will you be using them for? What will be driving the headphones?

Mediasupply.com says this in a FAQ:Answer:There is no difference between a music CD-R and a data CD-R. Both are the same thing, but some companies market audio discs in order to get a premium. There was a disc a couple years ago called a "Digital Audio CD-R", that was meant to burn on HHB and Marantz audio decks, but those have pretty much gone by the wayside. I guess this is totally false, unless applied to computers.
-
I'm pretty sure I've got it now. In some of the explanations they are not clear on hardware used. I always thought I could only use 'audio' discs in my recorder. The Sony and Samsung 'digital audio' blanks work great in my recorder. I can make unlimitted copies from a master copy from my vinyl. With the Memorex I cannot make copies of the original copy. I better buy a bunch of Sony and Samsung blanks before they are discontinued. I'll give the Mitsui blanks a try at some point. Thanks for your input!!
-
I've tried a few data cdr's in my component cd burner and message says 'use audio cdr'. In my case data and 'digital audio' cdr's are not interchangable.
-
These are the recordable, non-rewritable discs that have 'digital audio' as part of logo and may say "music' on them. Went through a bunch of Sony discs with no problem. Then I bought some Memorex and am having problems. They playback fine in my various CD players, but when I try to burn a copy from them they do not work flawlessly like the Sony's. I'm doing everything the same with both brands and they are both the same type of CD-R. Anyone notice differences like this? Maybe I'm missing something.
-
Is it a high frequency buzz or a low frequency hum??? High frequency buzzing...what Jazzbo said. Low frequency hum....what jacknife said.
-
Yes, my copy has ear. Ear stopped up around 4220-30. There are a couple dozen web sites that discuss it, but I do not have them bookmarked.
