Listened to this LP 3 or 4 times over last few days. Wondering if others have noticed same things I have. Engineer David Sands really nailed this one as far as I'm concerned. It's dynamic!! Almost too dynamic. Man, it's close to being there. Super soft solos then the full band kicks in HARD. I love it. It's like I'm in the middle of the band. Should be able to find this cheap.

This does not answer your question, but........ I no longer need a whole set-up. I usually just buy a new piece every year or two. I have brought many pieces home with me to audition before buying. Speakers, amps, pre-amps, cables and turntables. This is the best way, but not always possible. I do not know how you can get familiar with a piece of equipment in a foreign system, even with your own music. Of course, if you were auditioning an entire system it would work.

Did you do your own upgrades? There's a reputable place near DC that I'm thiking of sending my Bogen to, right after I get the tax refund. Yes, I did them myself. It was fairly easy because I had the schematics and owners manual and the values of parts I replaced. As was said before, turntables/cartidges have changed the most. I could easily live with a decent rig from the 50's if I had a great tt to go with it.

I have and still use a Heathkit tuner, pre-amp and mono blocks (17wpc) that were assembled in 1959. I upgraded caps in the pre-amp and amps. Hoping to upgrade the pre-amps phono stage at some point. It works great and sounds very nice. This would have been an above average set-up for the times and still plays music better than a lot of stuff being sold today. Nice Mcintosh and Marantz gear was the shit back then, also. Circuits in pre-amps and amps have not changed much. Parts like resistors and caps and wire are much better today. Tubes were better then than now. I'm using tubes from the 50's and 60's in all my gear.

Getting Norah Jones out on vinyl while she's hot is higher priority than the Blue Notes I guess. B)

CD player....no idea. Digital is an afterthought in my system. I've heard a few good ones, but never lived with them. The Musical Fidelity NuVista CD player was one of the best I've heard. Now, if it was a turntable.....

With all these different formats available it's also good to choose just one(unless your budget is big), so you can start with a great front end.

Well, if you are going surround for audio, I cannot be of much help. I'd guess you would need a 5 or 6 channel amp/pre-amp. I'd hate to see you miss out on having a nice tube stereo or a pair of tube mono blocks amps. That's a trade-off I would not consider. How about a 2 channel audio room and set up a decent audio system in the video room to play your surround SACD's? Go listen to a nice dedicated 2 channel audio system and then listen to a surround system with the same music.

Blue Note to introduce copy-protected discs

Is anyone besides me noticing the irony here? -
My 2 cents.... With your sized room I'd get high quality 2 way speakers on stands or small floor standers. A small integrated tube amp (a big one would heat your room up quick). What is your current tt?? Do you use it much? There are too many good racks, stands and cables to mention. Do you mind buying used? Great deals at Audiogon. What is your budget? I'd forget about surround in your music room. I do not think the SACD titles in that format are any good and there are not enough of them.

Thanks, Claude(the link master). I have not noticed the LP's being carried by the usual vendors here in USA. I had no idea they were re-issuing so many on vinyl. Good for them!!! I'll keep an eye out for the recommended titles.
-
How many titles in their catalog?? I did not care for the music or LP quality of the few titles I bought and later sold.

Blue Note to introduce copy-protected discs

Have the bean counters ever listened to the promotional department? The occasional copy I send or give to friends is actually free promotion for the record companies. It usually leads to them buying more of the artist or genre. I'm LMAO at what dumbasses these guys are. If it was my company I'd print on every CD, "Please loan or copy for a friend, so they can hear this great music and see if they would like more of the same." -
Did Francis Wollf ever take a bad photo?
wolff replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
He may have been a better dark room technician than photographer. Other than the composition, that can be improved by cropping, when I look at his photos I think "dark room expert". -
Yep, $42 ain't bad, considering... I have a hunch these are going to suck big time soundwise compared to the Classic's. These sound like digital re-masters all the way. When is the last time time RVG did anything analog. Go to Classic's website and read how it should be done. Makes me want to go to Red Trumpet and get the Classic BN's I do not have for $25 during sale.

$33.98 each, plus $8 per record shipping from Japan.

I think Right Now was his first as leader that I bought. I really liked "Poor Eric". It led to many, many more!!
-
Listened to it a couple times now. Pretty lame cd. Weak, very weak soundwise. Way off....to the point were it bugs me. The other Conns I just got sound good. Young/Mother Ship is quite good and Rivers/Fuchia seems passable so far. Wanna sell your copy???
-
I just got a Conn (not RVG). I hear a lot of distortion throughout the entire song.
-
No hiss on the LP(Mosaic). I'm sure your ceedees were mastered by a hack.
