King did some 10" twofers in the 80's. 2 10" titles on one 12' lp.
-
They issued about 50 out of a possible 70 from the 10" 5000 series. BLP 5001-5070. I've lost track of when they came out..'99 I think. Originally sold for 3,000 yen.Tanno still has few. Discographical info can be had at any site that lists the 5000 series. Here is one I think they have great sound considering the year they were recorded. High quality vinyl(dead quiet..not like the originals ) and beautiful high gloss covers. Insert inside lists the titles they issued. I see them on ebay going from $15-50. Just do not bid on the ones I want. I have 15 of them and wish I had more. ebay ebay

Yep, LP12. Records are worn out fast by cartridges that do not ride in the grooves correctly. Such as a worn stylus. A stylus with too much or not enough tracking force would also cause problems.

Currently listening to Hampton Hawes/ Green Leaves of Summer with my new phono cartridge. It's a Garrott Brothers P77 from Sydney, Australia. I'd heard good things about it and knew it was a good match for my arm. Other than that, I bought it 'blind'. It's hyped as having a " unique “Micro Tracer” diamond fitted to the P77 is remarkably “quiet,” helping to bring older recordings to life. It digs deep into the groove retrieving nuances that most diamonds skate over. " So far so good. Some slightly worn/noisy LP's are much, much more quiet. And normally quiet LP's are 'dead' quiet. Music is very involving and more dynamic and natural sounding than some other, more expensive, cartridges I have.

My "Down To Earth" has a beautiful laminated cover.

The conflict could also be with Sony's SACD releases of the Dylan titles. Audiophile LP's are in direct competition with 2 channel SACD, at least in my circle.

I have: BLP 4121 Elder Don and BLP 4145 Shoutin'. Good foot tappin' stuff . Shoutin' with John Patton is my fav of the two. A bit like a Donaldson and Smith date. I'm very glad I have then and play them quite a bit.

Most vinyl I buy is for the music..say 80%(Classic and Sundazed and Japanese re-issues, etc.). The other 20% is to add to a run(Blue Note, Prestige, etc..), but if I like the music I listen to it and enjoy it. I've bought them to resell at a profit. I've bought them to have extra copies(5 pressings of KOB). I've bought a certain pressing because it sounds much better than the others and therefore I enjoy the music more(Classic's and Acoustic Sounds 45rpm jazz re-issues). I've upgraded my stereo to hear them better. I've stuck with vinyl because I enjoy the music more via it's grooves. Anyway, I wish "One Step Beyond" had a thick laminated cover, because I likes 'em better. Aren't they beautiful?

I think it can be about both..music and collecting, as I'm sure many of the members who only buy ceedees can attest to. This is also the vinyl forum, not limited to music only. Oh, thanks for answering my question. Feel free to ignore similar questions I post in the future. I do like the music on this LP.

laminated cover of McLean's Blue Note LP "One Step Beyond"(4137). All I've seen is a thin, non-laminated one with the original New York USA label LP.

This probably is a stretch, but how about Frederick Roach's "All That's Good"? The singers hum, moan and go "oh yeah" once in a while.

I think the Thad Jones is very, very well done. A couple tracks of the Mingus/Candid set are amazing. The Don Cherry is top notch. The ballads on the Chaloff set are close to perfect. I could go on......... Well, Mosaic's vinyl production was nice while it lasted.

Listening to the Griffin(mono) now. Very nice warm and rich midrange. Nice having the deep groove and flat edge like the originals. The dynamic range seems much, much wider than my few originals from this time period. The stereo's seem brighter and less realistic sounding. I wish Classic would triple their production on these. What do they have..10 titles? Not enough!!! Looks like these will be out soon. Lee Morgan: Indeed! (Mono) (Classic Records LP BLP 1538) John Jenkins: John Jenkins with Kenny Burrell (Mono) (Classic Records LP BLP 1573)

What's the best [cleanest] way to remove promo
wolff replied to Dmitry's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I've used label remover found at office supply stores with great results. -
I think they keep the same mix. A new 'master' needs to cut on the lathe every time a re-issue is put out.
-
I have a few of each(Blue Note) and I prefer the mono's. As you can read at Classic's site they really went all out to get the mono re-issues right.
-
As far as I know, RVG only remastered the Mingus/Candid and De Franko/Clark(?) sets. The liner notes say he did the Hodges/51-55 but he did not. Of course, he did the original recording of most of the sets.

Interesting....Good old Sony is up to their old tricks. Unbelievable!!! Are they afraid audiophile LP's will hurt their Dylan SACD sales? SACD is Sony's baby and from what I hear they are loosing $$$ bigtime. I really do not think they are considering getting back into vinyl all the way. They did some some pretty bad things to get CD's in the stores 20 years ago. Here we go again with the SACD. Try a few of the Sundazed mono Dylan's. I likes 'em.

Great comments. I remember when I bougt this one. Only 10 years ago. Took a break from Disneyland and found a used record shop. Had they had other LP's I wanted I probably wouldn't have bought this one. The other one I bought was Shelly Manne/At The Manne Hole(2 LP)mono. Jones' drumming sure sets this one apart in my eyes. It seems so different and of course it is. This is one I also play to relax, but it keeps my interest. It's behind "Feelin' The Spirit" in my relaxing line-up.

I'm still in the B's.
