I listen to only vinyl, except in the car, so I'd like to see an 'only vinyl' forum. I buy no digital...just burn cd's from my lp's.. Getting to be too many formats. Hey, who has a nice collection of BN 45's?? I've seen other BB's split between vinyl, cd and SACD/DAD-A. I think it could be a really good forum. I see it discussing things like: turntables, cartridges, collectables, tt set-up, re-issues and good used vinyl, Mosaic vinyl and different labels(I need to know what steeplechase vinyl to get). I think "Good Guys' just ordered a bunch of quality tt's to stock. Vinyl is not going away. Linn LP12

What do you mean by "upgrade"? Are you saying that these were supposed to be better sounding than the earlier CD releases? I think you better petition one of the audiophile labels(Classic Records, Acoustic Sounds, Mobile Fidelity) to start liscencing BN titles if you really want "upgrades". If Classic Records vinyl "upgrades " are similar to what they could do with digital you guys would be in for a shock.

COMPLETE KEYNOTE COLLECTION - 21 lp set.
wolff replied to Dmitry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'd feel comfortable paying $250 if I wanted it. Looks like the one that did not sell has been re-listed. I have no idea how much they have gone for over the years. -

Who wants Dmitry to pick the AOTW sometime soon???
wolff replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Album Of The Week
He gained my support by giving me good deal on an LP I wanted and he said he'd vote for me if I ever get nominated. Are you sure he's a dentist? Sounds like he's running for governor of California. -
I suppose you were looking for native American items. We were at Punkin Center(Tonto Basin) when this old guy invites us for drinks at his shack. He was about 80 with classic bowed legs. Attached to his shack was 'his' collection of artifacts. Amazing display of items he'd collected over the years. He was going to donate it to a museum when he passed. Hi-jack off.

Very nice collection of jazz LP's on ebay
wolff replied to wolff's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Did you notice his guarantee? He seems ok to me. ..4000 items sold and a dozen NF's ain't bad odds in the ebay arena. Some people post NF before contacting seller. -
Miles Davis Blackhawk Vinyl Set Arrived!
wolff replied to Out2Lunch's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
First one on the block!! Do you have the original vinyl also? I'd like to hear how they compare in a couple areas. Sometimes I play my stereo copy in mono because the piano is really stuck in one speaker(not uncommon for this time period) and it bugs me. I'm hoping the Mosaic presents a little more natural soundstage. It is a great record for Davis's trumpet and Mobley's sax. Can you still hear that guy yelling "Bravo" after the solos? -
Thanks for the bit of background. Yes, this album helps me relax quite nicely. I really enjoy his skill at playing lovely solos(title track) than funky on the next track. Nice recipe for sucess in my book. Always a good listen. Also, if you are still into vinyl, originals can be had for $20 or so. I got mine for $6.00 a year ago. Oh, never mind, vinyl is dead.

You are probably tired of ebay crap, but this looks like a great collection where many should go at bargain prices. Wish I would run into a collection like this at a garage sale. I do not know many of these titles. If any of you want to recommend some, that would be great. Thanks Nice collection

Thank you!! Yes, I have wondered about Gigolo, too. Have Liberty pressings of both(man, "Andrew!" is a great sounding LP) and had wondered if there was an ealier pressing of them(New York ).

What year was this LP released? Recorded in 1964, but was it released much later? Thanks

I can see them doing a Blue Note box, like they've done with other labels. The will take all the titles they've released and put them in a box. Probably one box mono and one stereo. If it also contained nice cover/liner notes and it would be pretty nice. They re-issued Heifetz's RCA Living Stereos..about 15 titles, why not Mobley or...?

I'm just going off memory from articles I've read over the years, so I could be off. Sony got or is still getting a nickel for every CD(it was their technology). Phillips gets $ for every CD player...some of the mechanisms are their technology. SACD is Sony's child. Interesting, hey? Follow the $$$ trail.

Twenty years after the death of vinyl I can still get more new and re-issued vinyl than I know what to do with. Even my kid can get his favorite bands on vinyl. So, 'obsolete' is the wrong term. There will be a small market for SACD and DVD-A as there is for vinyl, but most people could give a shi* about sound quality so the downloading technologies will continue to grow. If SACD/DVD-A were the same price as ceedees maybe it would be different. I believe Sony and Phillips will continue to push for a new format, because(I think) they no longer get a nickel for every CD made.

NAY! Among other things, I can't stand the tone/color of his tenor during this time...hard and lifeless to me. And those high pitched squeaks, yuck!

Anyone seen the Mobley vinyl box
wolff replied to Son-of-a-Weizen's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
NO....Sure kicking myself for passing on it when it was in print. The Morgan and McLean are scarce , too. McLean's originals are still around at ok prices, so that helps my vinyl addiction. I see The Morgan LP set is up for bid....$500+ by the time bidding ends? -
Great line.

Here is another re-issue that sounds pretty good. Some say better than any CD/SACD version, but what do they know? BLP 1577

From Classic Records Jutta Hipp - Jutta Hipp CATALOG #: BLP-1530 LABEL: 33-45 rpm, 12-inch Classic Singles Series PRICE: $33.00 AVAILABLE: Now Jutta Hipp, a talented German pianist, came to the United States in the mid-'50s and quickly gained some attention. Hipp's boppish music on the set is very enjoyable and swinging. Oddly enough, soon after this now impossible LP to find, she left the jazz world. Teamed up with great tenor Zoot Sims (who dominates the music), somewhat hesitant trumpeter Jerry Lloyd (who briefly came out of retirement), bassist Ahmed Abdul-Malik, and drummer Ed Thigpen, Hipp sounds excellent on a couple of basic originals and such standards as "Violets for Your Furs," "Almost Like Being in Love," and J.J. Johnson's "Wee Dot." This rare set is well worth picking up by straight-ahead jazz collectors. The Classic reissue was cut from the original full track mono master on our vintage "all tube" mono cutting system by Bernie "Bebop" Grundman. Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool CATALOG #: T-762 LABEL: Columbia Jazz 200 Gram LP reissues PRICE: $33.00 AVAILABLE: Now So dubbed because these three sessions two from early 1949, one from March 1950 are where the sound known as cool jazz essentially formed, The Birth of the Cool remains one of the defining, pivotal moments in jazz. This is where the elasticity of bop was married with skillful, big-band arrangements and a relaxed, subdued mood that made it all seem easy, even at its most intricate. After all, there's a reason why this music was called cool; it has a hip, detached elegance, never getting too hot, even as the rhythms skip and jump. Indeed, the most remarkable thing about these sessions arranged by Gil Evans and featuring such heavy-hitters as Kai Winding, Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz, and Max Roach is that they sound intimate, as the nonet never pushes too hard, never sounds like the work of nine musicians. Furthermore, the group keeps things short and concise (probably the result of the running time of singles, but the results are the same), which keeps the focus on the tones and tunes. The virtuosity led to relaxing, stylish mood music as the end result the very thing that came to define West Coast or "cool" jazz but this music is so inventive, it remains alluring even after its influence has been thoroughly absorbed into the mainstream Stephen Thomas Erlewine The Classic Reissue was cut from the original 30 ips mono master tapes using our all tube mono cutting system at Bernie Grundman Mastering. This is as good as it will ever get!

You just missed the rodeo in Payson. Used be greatt bar fights. High school reunion coming up. Sedona was great 30 years ago. We used to grab a couple of 6 packs and go there to get away from the big city of Payson. If you are in Payson or Tonto Basin tell 'em Clark says 'hi'.

Love it!!! Watched it 3 times already. Probably wait and buy all 3 together in a box set. Gollum is great. The Elves were never at Helms Deep, but it was cool when they showed up out of nowhere.

How's the music on the Ilori LP...never heard it. How about a play grade?

I had access to a bunch of these years ago and only kept one: Today's Jazz/Brookmeyer-Zoot Sims Quintet. I get a kick when Sims sings on "I Can't Get Started". As posted before, I found the vinyl very inferior on most of them.
