A couple of CDs arrived today from Fundacja . Took a wee while to get here but it’s always worth the wait. first up a quarte recording with two from this parish Karl Evangelista ——What else is there ——-( FSR 11/2023) featuring Alexander Hawkins .

Sylvie Courvoisier----Chimera------(Intakt) Arrived a a few days. I've been listening to disc one on repeat. It offers a very different sound to other releases I've heard by the leader. Beautifully spacious recording with a floating cerebral feel but much more visceral than a typical ECM session. Unusual line up with two trumpets , piano, vibes , guitar, bass, drums. Interesting stuff.

I was twenty and in my second year of medical school. I'd starting paying attention to JRR with the late Peter Clayton on BBC radio three. He played an Adderley track "Barefoot Sunday blues" which blew me away. This CD was the only Adderley I could find and was my very first modern jazz purchase. This lead to Somethin' Else and the rest is history.

Extra tracks are from Brownie with strings album IIRC. Sound wasn’t as good as other emArcy reissues

I’ll need to check that out. I rate Kris Davis highly but haven’t heard much from her in the past few years

Well Beyond Dragons arrived yesterday with the Stones album! Unusual combination. Any rate Niesceier’s Intakt release has real urgency. It’s a trio with the incredible Tomeka Reid and Savannah Harris ( new name to me I think) . I think all the Niescier I’ve heard has been on Intakt but once again she leaves a substantial positive impression. I’ll definitely keep her name on my must listen list. Recommended

Allen Kwela-----Black Beauty-----(Matsuli) Matsuli produce some really lovely reissues of South African music. Everything is done to the highest standards. This set has gentle SA township vibe.

Next ...Miyazawa Akira-----Bull trout------(Victor/HMV) -another very fine piece of Japanese free(ish) jazz. Recent reissue.

More Japanese jazz this morning its.. Masahiko Togashi-----We Now Create---(Victor Jpn) -recent reissue

Takeru Muraoka------Takeru-----(Superfly/Universal) 2021 reissue of 1970 date. Takeru sounds quite in debt to Wayne Shorter to my ears. Fine set

I’d agree. Intakt’s output is always interesting. I’m eagerly awaiting the new Angelika Niescier release.

Hard to know how to categorise this music other than it's good. Cinematic, jazz, funk spiritual etc. Interesting stuff from Argentina 1976 - reissued on Altercat

Arne Domnerus 6tet (artist EP) nice 4 track EP from 1960 featuring Jan Allan, Rune Falk a.o. West coast vibe - not especially Scandi . Reminds me of “I want to live” .

Hacke Bjorksten----- All star sextet-----(Sonet Sweden) EP 1957 EP with a slightly more muscular west coast sound. Sonet pressing looks like a mogul field with multiple small 2-3 mm rimmed craters in the vinyl. I've only ever seen this pressing defect on other Swedish Sonet EPs. Plays through despite this.

Sound of the reissue is immaculate. Only minor grip is that the quality of the cover is pretty average.
