I attended with modest expectations, but this concert far exceeded them. A successful fusion of jazz and West African music, including three Senegalese musicians (two kora players and a percussionist) performing with five Dallas players--led by S-Ankh Rasa on woodwinds, and including Bernard Wright on keyboards.

Ralph Sutton, Piano Moods (Columbia ten inch). Now I'm caught up on recent ten inch finds.

I thought the piece was good; I enjoyed listening.

Claude Thornhill Encores (Columbia ten inch), Earl Hines and the All Stars (Mercury ten inch of Keynote material), and Basie Roars Again (Verve).

I'm not familiar with her, but she's also in Houston on February 19, at Meca. Olivia Block (Chicago, Illinois) - performing a multi-channel, in the dark, surround version of her composition Aberration of Light

Yes they do, though apparently we are imagining it. I think their sixties records also sound great.

I've seen him twice--in a duo with Gerald Clayton and in a quartet. The latter, at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival last year, was particularly inspired. Wild Man Dance is a very nice recording.

I would have done that but the guy running the place for the evening told me I couldn't stay inside between sets. Tania Maria was the worst I've seen--she had a screaming fit yelling at a professional photographer who was working for the club and taking non-flash photos (and sitting at my table).
