    McCoy Tyner

The band on Dimensions, a stray post-Milestone recording from 1984, was also fantastic live--with John Blake, Gary Bartz, John Lee, and Wilby Fletcher.
  6. The new high definition cameras are installed; the video quality of the broadcast is much improved.
  7. The Washington Casinos?
  8. I've never regretted not selling anything.
  9. I assume that since you went back a second night Harrell's group was good? Wish I had realized Turner was playing with Harrell at the Vanguard. I might have made the trip down for that. It was real good; interesting compositions and top flight playing from all.
  10. Last Wednesday, the Charles Tolliver Quintet, with Bruce Edwards on guitar and Theo Hill on piano, at the Cell Theater. Last Thursday, the Charles McPherson Quintet at Jazz Standard, with Brian Lynch on trumpet. On Friday, Ben Allison at the Cornelia Street Cafe. On Saturday, David Schnitter Quartet at Smalls, followed by Tom Harrell's Trip (Mark Turner, Ugonna Ukegwo, Adam Cruz) at the Village Vanguard. Sunday night, Frederika Krier's Molecular Vibrations at Shapeshifter Lab, followed by Tom Harrell's Trip at the Village Vanguard.
  11. Seeing When Colors Play performed live was among the most thrilling live music experiences I've had. He's one of the greatest musicians I've ever seen. A great drummer who almost never soloed. I'm lucky to have seen five different editions of the Decoding Society live. A lesser known Decoding Society recording that is wonderful on close examination is Shannon's House, featuring the otherwise unrecorded (?) Fort Worth saxophonist Rachella Parks.
  12. Mil Jackson/Ray Brown Big Band, Memphis Jackson (Impulse), and A Message For Blakey, A Holiday for Skins volume 2 (Blue Note, blue and white Liberty stereo)
  13. I heard the second set; that was pretty cool.
  14. The Spike Wilner trio set tonight has been quite nice, just what I needed.
  15. Plus, Billy Harper is a special guest on Tuesday night, and Mark Gross is there on Friday and Saturday.
  16. She's excellent as well on bassist Ian Underwood's "Help I Lost My Body". She'll be on Simona Premazzi's forthcoming CD, The Lucid Dreamer.
  17. On the internet, from amazon.com--the majority from sellers (importcds is my favored seller), dustygroove.com, ebay (mostly LPs), cdbaby.com, and direct from various labels and artists. In person, mostly various Half Price Books stores, and CD Source (a used CD seller).
  18. Art Blakey, Backgammon (Roulette promo), and Odell Brown and the Organ-izers, Mellow Yellow (Cadet), which is a wonderful LP.
  19. Cannonball and Coltrane (Limelight)
  20. Catching the last part of the first set of the Tivon Pennicott Quartet, that was pretty hot.
  21. Kenny Burrell, Midnight Blue (Blue Note, solid blue label with white note), and Lee Konitz, Very Cool (Verve trumpet label).
  22. Right now, the Don Friedman Trio.
  23. Lee Konitz, Tranquility (Verve). Such an excellent group on this one (Billy Bauer, Henry Grimes and Dave Bailey).
  24. The ones I like are, Augmented Variations, Circle of Time, Salutes Bessie Smith, Women in E(Motion), and Duets (with Muhal Richard Abrams).
  25. Jean Michel Pilc, Boris Koslov, and Billy Hart tonight. ,
