  1. I saw that group at Smalls a year or so ago and I very much enjoyed; their two recent worthy recordings on Steeplechase are Forsooth and Heavy Mirth.
  2. Willis Jackson, Boss Shoutin' (Prestige, blue label, mono)
  3. Wayne Shorter"s Complete Columbia Album collection has a pre-order (June 12 release) price of $25.99 on amazon.com.
  4. And of course jokes about Aggies are native to Texas, being a reference to graduates of Texas A&M University.
  5. The best place to start is with the Evidence reissues. I like selected material from all eras of Sun Ra.
  6. I saw them a couple of years ago at the Blue Note, on a double bill with Jason Moran. I enjoyed them moderately; they were fine, but not anything great; some songs were more to my liking than others. I would see them again in the right circumstances. But I enjoyed Jason Moran and Bandwagon a lot more.
  7. Joe Sullivan, New Solos By an Old Master (Riverside, blue label)
  8. Double thanks--a great deal, $18 for the Waldron Black Saint box and $20 for the Lacy Black Saint box.
  9. Jimmy Smith, Back at the Chicken Shack (Blue Note, mono, NY USA) Horace Silver, Cape Verdean Blues (Blue Note, mono, NY USA)
  10. Rip Rig and Panic = Jaki Byard Experience minus Alan Dawson plus Elvin Jones.
  11. Rip, Rig and Panic, and I Talk With Sprits are on Limelight, and those are two of his best albums.
  12. Their domestic shipping is also high ($4.95 for one CD); so I'll wait and use amazon.com.
  13. Stan Getz and J.J. Johnson at the Opera House (Verve)
  14. Dance with Kid Ory or Just Listen (Verve)
  15. Cannonball Adderley Live at the Lighthouse (Riverside, Fontana pressing)
  16. I ordered the Uptown Hank Mobley and the new Tom Harrell, Number Five.
  17. The Elmore James box set is great. http://www.acerecords.co.uk/content.php?page_id=59&release=7530
  18. Three of my earliest jazz LP purchases (around 1973-74) that hooked me were anthologies: The Best of John Coltrane (Atlantic) Miles Davis, Basic Miles (Columbia), and The Best of Cannonball Adderley (Capitol).
  19. Cannonball Adderley, Know What I Mean? (Riverside, black label) Larry Coryell, Fairyland (Mega)
  20. Cannonball Adderley's Greatest Hits (Riverside, solid blue label)
  21. Melissa Aldana Jimmy Greene Logan Richardson Noah Preminger
  22. Gleam came in the mail yesterday, and I really enjoyed it on first listen; Freddie is in tip top form. This is the same group that I saw live around the same time here in Dallas (without the conga player).
  23. kh, This one is a sentimental favorite of mine that I got when it was new when I was in college. A few years back Pat Martino was a regular at AAJ, and I asked him if it was available on CD. He said that it was, by ordering from Eric. Perhaps you can do a search at AAJ and find the thread with the URL where to order it. I found the Pat Martino thread at all about jazz and followed his instructions but they don't work any more.
  24. Eric Kloss--Life Force (Prestige). As good as in the Land of the Giants, but not on CD.
  25. Michael White--Pneuma (Impulse promo)
