  1. Richard "Groove" Holmes -- Misty (Prestige, blue label)
  2. For Fats Waller, the 1960s era RCA Vintage series LPs are a better choice--amazing sound on those RCA Vintage LPs (not limited to Fats). Never heard of these. Do tell! The three that I have (all great) are: Sidney Bechet--Bechet of New Orleans (LPV-510) (1965) Fats Waller--Fractious Fingering (LPV-537) (1967) Jelly Roll Morton--Mr. Jelly Lord (LPV-546) (1967) I don't have a complete list of the series (at least 46 LPs), but it started at LPV-501, with Coleman Hawkins. There are others by Fats, Jelly Roll, Duke Ellington, Benny Moten, King Oliver, Jack Teagarden. All three I have are pre-Dynaflex, heavy vinyl; two are deep grooves. This might be the best sounding series of vintage jazz releases I've run across. In the upper left hand side of the front cover, it says "Vintage Series" with grapes underneath.
  3. Prince Lasha and Sonny Simmons--Firebirds (Comtemporary, green label) Ornette Coleman--Tomorrow is the Question (Contemporary, green label)

  19. It sounds like the sources were destroyed for only 10 out of 170 plus tracks.
  20. Bob Brookmeyer and Friends (Columbia, two eyes) Mel Brown-Chicken Fat (Impulse, red and black)
  21. Paul Desmond--Pure Desmond (CTI) Sonny Rollins--The Bridge (German RCA)
  22. For many years, Federal District Court Judge Jerry Buchmeyer had a very funny column in the Texas Bar Journal called et cetera which collected humorous excerpts from depositions and court testimony. As I recall, the stupidity was not exclusive to the attorneys in these columns. Here's a site that collects examples from his columns. http://www.texasbar.com/saywhat/weblog/index.html
  23. How much was it going for, if you don't mind my asking? I have no idea if it's exactly an in-demand collector's item, but, anyway, if you like this track & want a little more Sharrock or Stubblefield in your collection it's definitely worth seeking out. The lowest price used on amazon was about $5.00. I purchased a copy for about $7.00. You won't be sorry, that's a good record.
  24. I found several LPs in near perfect condition on The Haydn Society label. This label has very nice sound, at least on these circa 1953-55 albums. Uses the "NAB Curve," whatever that means.
  25. Gene Ammons--The Black Cat (Prestige, purple label). Except for two incongruous with strings cuts in the middle of each side, a fantastic record (with George Freeman on guitar, Harold Mabern, Ron Carter).
