Now I have received an email from them appearing to indicate that they have reshipped my entire order--three Tone Poets and a CD, when only the CD was the missing item.
-
On disc four of this. For me, this is the best Hendrix set ever released. His best band (Band of Gypsies) in four concerts on two consecutive days, awesome guitar, and great sonics.
-
Unfortunately I don't recall the specific compositions they played. I recall Vic Juris as one of the other guitarists, but not the others. My main memory is of one Coryell solo that transcended every other that evening, and the other four guitarists staring at him with looks of admiration/amazement during that solo.

I ordered 3 Tone Poets and a CD in the same sale; the LPs arrived without the CD before Christmas. I received the same email as you reference; I assume they are only referencing the CD omitted from the first shipment in my case.

Charles Mingus Complete 1970s Atlantic box set
kh1958 replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Great Concert is great. At some point I realized that at the time of this concert, my family lived only about 80 miles from Paris--U.S. Army stationed in Orleans. Unfortunately, I was only 6 and not yet a Mingus fan. -
I recollect seeing him in person four times. 1992: A solo concert at a bar in Arlington, Texas. I believe it was a stop on the way to visiting Corpus Christi, his home town. He played electric guitar and acoustic. It was very good. 1994: Five Guitars Play Mingus at the Fez in the Time Cafe. This was a pleasure to hear. 1996: Two sets of his quartet at the Blue Note. My favorite of the four concerts. 2006: A trio with Victor Bailey and Lennie White at the Granada Theater in Dallas. For whatever reason, this concert was a disaster. Music was not working at all.

I saw her at about the time of New Moon Daughter at a small club in Deep Ellum, with an outstanding group (I recall Charlie Burnham, Brandon Ross, Lonnie Plaxico) and got to meet her; she was very nice. A few years later I heard her when she played at the Caravan of Dreams. And many years later I saw her at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, playing her Billie Holiday tribute material. All three concerts were terrific, and there was no trace of diva behavior or any mention of politics.

Recently I realized that, in light of the various excellent and varied live music experiences that I recall, I didn't have enough Geri Allen recordings and have been trying to rectify that deficiency. 2000: Chico Freeman, Richard Davis, Geri Allen and Andrew Cyrille at Jazz Standard. I wish there were a recording of this group. 2002: At the Iridium, with a Wallace Roney led group that also included James Spaulding and Lennie White. I went twice over the course of a week. I recall Patrice Rushen was advertised as the pianist but it was in fact Geri Allen. 2007: Geri Allen Trio with tap dancer, at Jazz Improv Festival. 2015: David Murray/Geri Allen/Terri Lynne Carrington, at Winter Jazz Fest. 2016: Geri Allen Tribute to Erroll Garner, with Christian Sands, Russell Malone, Victor Lewis. New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. George Wein was in attendance.

I have the record. All is not All the Things You Could be by Now if... It is previously unreleased.

I heard Mike Reed at the Big Ears Festival with Nichole Mitchell and Tomeka Reid, an excellent group. On first listen, I found the instrumental tracks on the recording to be compelling (5 of the 9 tracks), The other four tracks feature Marvin Tate on "vocals" which is more like narration. These tracks are probably one listen tracks, for me anyway.
