I wonder why Mosaic issued two overlapping Mary Lou Williams sets? Nonetheless, I'm buying both of them.

I remember reading, I think in Downbeat, that Mingus was appearing at the Festival in 1977; I sure wanted to go to hear MIngus but in college lacked the means/cash to get there. I wish I had tried harder.

Concert Stream – Aurelio Martínez and the Garifuna Soul Band Aurelio Martínez April 23, 2021 | 7:00PM Online Tickets $15 | Free for UChicago Students This concert premieres at 7 pm CDT on Friday, April 23 and will be available until 11:59 pm CDT on Sunday, April 25. A member of one of the last generations to grow up steeped in the Afro-Caribbean Garifuna tradition, singer, songwriter, and guitarist Aurelio Martínez has proven that this indigenous style of music is still alive and kicking. With a richly resonant voice and soulful acoustic songs, Martínez has identified himself as a bard of the people, a vital bearer of tradition with a subtle innovative streak. From his home in Honduras, Aurelio shares his high-energy music suffused with indigenous style in a special streaming performance as part of UChicago Presents' Music Without Borders Series. This concert is partially supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Center for Latin American Studies, and International House at the University of Chicago.

At Smoke: FRIDAY APRIL 16 - SATURDAY APRIL 17 / LIVE STREAMED / 8PM EST Buy Streaming Pass Steve Davis (trombone) Steve Nelson (vibraphone) David Hazeltine (piano) Joe Farnsworth (drums, Friday) Willie Jones III (drums, Saturday) “Steve Davis is the Poet Laureate of the trombone." – Chick Corea Steve Davis celebrates his April 14th birthday with two nights of livestreamed concerts. He is leading a stirring quintet featuring vibraphonist Steve Nelson, pianist David Hazeltine, bassist Gerald Cannon and drummer Joe Farnsworth on Friday and Willie Jones III on Saturday. JazzTimes reports, “(Steve) has established himself as one of the most accomplished and lyrical improvisers on his instrument as well as a prolific composer. Downbeat adds, “Davis thoughtfully balances modernism, lyricism and drive—as a writer and a player.” These performances reunite Davis with Nelson who appeared on two of the trombonist’s celebrated recordings, Portrait in Sound and Vibe Up!.

I ordered the LP from amazon (US). The CD was not in stock when I ordered but does show up as in stock now (though with a suspiciously delayed delivery date). There are 8 tracks. Two are solo kora. Of the collaborations, the ones with Sona Jobarteh and Vincent Segal/Patrick Messina are excellent. I don't know who Camille is, but I liked that track and the one with Salif Keita. The track with Oxmo Puccino I did not care for. The track with Piers Faccini was okay. This opinion is based on listening to the LP twice in a row last night.
