No blue ray/dvd drive in the current iMac. I am starting to need a new car but my current car has a cd player; you can plug in an iPod; and burn cds to a harddrive. I hate to give that up.

The Apple SuperDrive is simply a plug-in CD drive since the drive is no longer standard equipment in Apple computers, presumably because most users view it as obsolete. Hence, as a user of non-current music storage devices, I get to pay extra. It may also play DVDs; I have not tried.

One of my favorites.

The SuperDrive recognizes the CD right away. Faster than the cd drive in my old iMac.

I just got a new iMac and purchased a USB Superdrive from the Apple Store. I haven't had any problems transferring music from CD to my iMac hard drive. Just open Appie Music and, when you load a CD into the Superdrive, the Superdrive shows up on the left side of Apple Music, right under the iTunes store. Just click on it and then it works just like iTunes worked in terms of displaying the CD and importing the CD into the computer (that is, uncheck any songs you don't want to transfer and then click on Import) At least, that is how it has worked on my computer. It seems absurd that you would not be able to do the same thing with a 2017 iMac. Is your iMac updated to the latest operating system? Transferring the music from the iMac to an iPhone however exceeds my current skills.

Charles Mingus at the Jazz Workshop "Right Now"

Well, I don't know, I enjoy Johnny Coles' playing. He can also be heard with Gil Evans, who had a pretty good ear for interesting stylists. I heard him in person with Mingus Dynasty back in 1983. But at least, there are plenty of recordings from the 1964 tour without Johnny Coles, if he is not to your taste. -

That track is wonderful, but in addition, Kenny Dorham and Curtis Fuller are also in top form in their features.

Yes, except the rhythm section is the same throughout: Ronnie Ball, Ben Tucker, David (?) Bailey (Donald Bailey?). Aside from the fantastic Abdul-Malik featured track: Red Door has Zims and Cohn; Lover Man features Herbie Mann; It's All Right with Me features Curtis Fuller; Autumn Leaves features Kenny Dorham, and Wee Dot has Mann, Dorham, Fuller and Sims. The Vogue LP I have appears to be a German pressing. The Notes say it is originally recorded by Roulette. .
