  2. Well, I've wanted to hear the first set of that concert since late 1974-early-1975 when Mingus at Carnegie Hall came out. So thank you to whoever is responsible.
  3. Your timing is off. The medicated/somewhat passive Mingus was the time of the earlier band with Bobby Jones. Full strength Mingus in 1974.
  4. The Exotic Sounds of Bali (Columbia) Johnny Hodges and Wild Bill Davis, Con-Soul Sax (RCA)
  5. The Duke Ellington set from 1970 was indeed from the Concert Vault. But I had not heard it before and found it thrilling. five songs, including Johnny Hodges soloing on New Orleans Blues in New Orleans; an electrifying version of Triplicate (Paul Gonsalves, Harold Ashby; Norris Turney). The band was roaring with Wild Bill Davis on organ. I can't wait to hear the Mingus set tomorrow.
  6. What, you are skipping a 16 CD Chicago live at Carnegie Hall set? (Me too).
  7. The caller ID said Terminex (the exterminator) and when I answered (why?) it was someone pretending to be from AT&T.

  20. I remember reading, I think in Downbeat, that Mingus was appearing at the Festival in 1977; I sure wanted to go to hear MIngus but in college lacked the means/cash to get there. I wish I had tried harder.
  21. It's free. WWOZ is a New Orleans public radio station. You can get listen to their broadcast on their website or there is a free app for the station where you can listen to their broadcast on or through your phone. They do accept donations, of course. https://www.wwoz.org/642501-cubes-jazz-festing-place-2021
