  1. I believe that's Sinatra's scatting from Strangers In The Night. Although Frank did record Winchester Cathedral too. ("You didn't do nothin', you didn't ding-dong, you let her get by") Which I doubt you'll find on any compilations. Not one of his nobler moments.
  2. I heard Clinton really dug "Nipples". And "More Nipples".
  3. Chris, man- we gotta talk. I'm a little worried about you.
  4. Buffalo Bill Buffalo Bob Anchor Bar
  5. I'll check it out and get back to you.
  6. Anyone ever hear of the "Miles Davis Radio Project"? My buddy Miles251 played some of it for me. Danny Glover hosted it, and it featured many interviews with various sidemen. I just heard a bit of it (I think it was fairly lengthy) but thought it was very well done- I'd like to get a copy of it sometime. I'd never heard of it. How long ago was it on the radio? Was it on NPR? The reason I mention this is because Wayne Shorter did a spot-on impression of Miles speaking. Really funny.
  7. Just wondering about this the other day.......... Are there any recordings of Miles speaking before his voice got trashed? I don't think I've ever heard his "pre-rasp" voice.
  8. Liebman recorded a great version of Footprints on the OOP Pendulum (w/Randy Brecker, Richie Beirach, Frank Tusa and Al Foster). Al Foster's solo is one of my favorite drum solos. This whole side smokes, I hope they reissue it someday soon.
  9. You're off to a very good start! I'm betting it won't be your last.
  10. Not even at gunpoint.
  11. I would also add that info from board members has led me to cheaper sources and some great deals. I feel like I've become a more informed and frugal buyer. When I recently figured up my CD purchases from last year (for tax purposes) the total amount was quite a bit lower than in previous years, but I think I've been getting more for my money. A little searching does have its benefits!
  12. Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day and avoid the post-birthday harrassment that has been haunting me.
  13. I taught a jazz history course once when I was a sabbatical replacement at the University of Montana. It was one of those "cash cow" courses that brought in a lot of money to the music department because it had an enrollment of like 300+. As you might expect, on any given day there were about half that many in attendance. I tried to approach the class as a combination of education and entertainment- balancing "boring" lectures with videos and in-class performances. When I created the final exam I was afraid it was going to be way too easy- you know, questions like: Louis Armstrong played the: A) Red Sox B) Bassoon C) Trumpet D) I like eggs And there were a LOT of people who missed it and similar questions. I thought it was a super-easy test, but it turned out to be a HARD test. I also had them write reviews of concerts. I got a lot of "the tempo got louder" and related comments.
  14. I hear ya. Between Monday Michiru and Sonny Rollins Live in London, that Sangrey is the "devil in my ear" which I would guess pleases him to no end.
  15. I've become aware of a LOT of new sources for info/deals here. I buy more, but overall spend less- I know that to be true from last year's tax deductions.
  16. Seems like as of late you've been purging a good amount of your collection, Mark- is that purely for financial reasons or are your tastes changing?
  17. Kentucky Derby Pinewood Derby Derwood Kirby
  18. I know I've been purchasing more music since I've been hanging here. Quite a bit more, actually. The good thing is that my purchases have come with a much higher rate of satisfaction- pretty much everything I've gotten based on recommendations here has been good, very few regrets. And in addition to jazz enlightenment, I've also expanded my classical, pop, world music and DVD vistas based on info obtained here. Sometimes it's almost too much of a good thing- I can't get every thing I'd like. You know, those pesky bills and all. Anyway, thanks for all the good advice. Ya bastids.
  19. Oh boy, some Rollins I haven't heard (and I just got my credit card bill all paid off ) Looks like d'bastids is gonna get some more of my money. Bastids. You guys are killin' me! ....but it hurts so good....
  20. Happy Birthday Joe! I owe you a b-day present, and I think you know what it is.
  21. The only "easy" wedding gigs are the ones where you're fully anesthetized. Sounds like a TUX/BUX/SUX event to me.
  22. Caan, James Fuschia Swing Song Seay, Bobby
  23. I've been listening to the Duke side- Clark Terry is a national treasure, as is Sam Woodyard. And Gonsalves. Love the arrangement of Midnight Sun.
