  6. The incident was reported in local newspapers at the time. According to Gene Santoro's biography of Mingus 'Myself When I'm Real', 'he wanted to buy some shirts'. Ben Webster - who was in the city at the time - told him he had been ripped because he was black. Mingus went back to the store to demand a better deal. A clash occured, Mingus was briefly held by the police.

  10. We have a winner! The photo was taken in 1943 when Laurel and Hardy sport the zoot suits they wore in the film 'Jitterbugs'? Welles was filming 'Jane Eyre' at the same time and wears the appropriate costume for the part!
