    Barney Wilen

It will be out here next week! Amazon.fr entry
  3. Coleman Hawkins 'The Hawk Relaxes' (Prestige/Moodsville, mono, green label)
  4. Kay Davis' passing is sad news! Her singing may not have been to everyone's taste but I had a keen appreciation for it (love several of her versions of 'Yesterday' in the Duke's DETS series, among other contributions to the Ducal repertory). Wish there were more recorded examples of her work with Billy Strayhorn!

    Gene Sedric

The Sedric 1938-1947 Classics include: - the 4 tunes from 1938, - 16 tunes from 1946 (8 for Harmony, 4 for Swing, 4 for Keynote) - 4 tunes from a January 1947 session by Ruby Smith for RCA. Ruby Smith also shows up on one of the Harmony session. Ruby was Bessie Smith's niece and sings in Bessie's style but without her aunt's talent! Sorry for the late reply
  6. Not to hijack this thread, but my best wishes, and keep warm! Very best wishes for a speedy recovery from me too ! and from me too!!! I very much appreciate all the good wishes - and feeling very fine - but need to apologize to Africa Brass. This is HIS thread. Please let's keep this to its rightful owner
  7. Ted McNabb 'Big Band Swing' (Epic, mono) enjoying this after reading Marc Meyer's very interesting report on the album in yesterday's Jazz Wax My copy still has the $2,99 price tag from the Princeton Record Exchange where I bought this! A good investment it was!
  8. Panassié was too often a narrow-minded person. But his love of the jazz he liked was undeniable. I grew up listening to his radio shows which invariable opened with Armstrong's 'Cornet Shop Suey'. Every time I listen to that recording takes me back to those glorious radio days!
  9. Very good to see you back here, AB! Currently keeping a rather low profile here after suffering a very nasty form of pneumonia. Will be back in shape in a few days and ready to exchange views and informations! The babes thread is no more but the sexiest album covers thread is still going on!
