  12. Walter Schaap and Charles Delaunay were very good friends ever since Schaap was in Paris to study at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in the 30s until 1939 when Schaap returned to New York. They remained in touch. Schaap helped Delaunay as his NY representative to write contracts for musicians sought by Delaunay for the 1949 Paris Jazz Festival. Bird led a group (with Kenny Dorham) at the festival.
